Hi! I noticed you had some triangle notches in the collar and the back top panel when sewing the collar on but I’m not seeing any notches on the pattern - any advice on how many to cut and how to space them on the collar pieces? Do I also need to do them around the panel if I do the notches on the collar? Tysm in advance, this is my first sewing project!
@isainstitches
@isainstitches 7 күн бұрын
Hi! Wait there are notches on the collar, one on each side (to connect to the shoulder seam, let me know if you can't see them) and then a little advice: always notch the center of your pieces (the ones that are symmetrical) by folding the pieces in half and snipping 👌

Do you have any suggestions for finishing edges WITHOUT a overlock/server? This will be my first ever clothing item and I only own a regular sewing machine
@isainstitches
@isainstitches Жыл бұрын
Hi, most people who don't have an overlocker use the zig zag stitch on their regular machines. Some machines offer an overlock stitch (I never tried it though, my machine is too old and doesn't have it)

@@isainstitches one more question of you don’t mind :) I’m not experienced in elastic fabrics, so do you think I could get away with a sherpa fabric if I size up?
@isainstitches
@isainstitches 3 ай бұрын
@@JanasSignature I made a sherpa version once in actual size, and it was a waste of resources, my bf couldn't even get his shoulder through the lower part of the sweatshirt! It's possible, but check the garment measurements vs yours well.

Hi there! One more question about the pockets. When you unfold the front piece and you place the first pocket piece - are you putting the pocket's right side, on the right on top of the right side of the fabric? So that the right sides of each pocket and front panel are touching? so technically when you look down at your piece you see the right side of the front panel, and the wrong side of the pocket looking back up at you? This would mean when I place my second pocket piece on top of the first, the right side of the second pocket is up against the wrong side of my first pocket - does this sound right to you? Was a bit confused when you said put the right sides together for both pockets, that wouldn't be possible if you put the right side of the first pocket on the right side of the front panel right? Couldn't quite make that out with the colour of your fleece! Thank you in advance 🙏🏻

7:15 the fabric is wrong side up. That means that we'll have the right side inside the pocket. 7:34 right side is now up. Does it help?

Hi great video. Thank you. I’ve ordered the pattern on Etsy but am curious to know which fabric you use for the placket.
@isainstitches

I used some light gabardine. Use a woven fabric and I recommend not 100% cotton. I've tried poplin and the wrinkles after washing are ugly, synthetic fibers will avoid wrinkles

@@isainstitches No actually-- I'm looking at about 3:20. Should there be a piece of interfacing on the back of the fabric where the zipper goes?
@isainstitches
@isainstitches 4 ай бұрын
@@TaylorRojek Absolutely, always add interfacing wherever you'll have a zipper (anywhere there'll be some pulling, even more so if the fabric is thin or stretchy). Also mentioned in the pattern piece inventory in 01:12

I was wondering if interfacing could be used on the collar? It seems many patterns call for it, I never use it but was wondering why some call for it and others don't?
@isainstitches
@isainstitches Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes good question. So interfacing will be required in two cases: 1) to rigidify certain parts of a garment, so that they visually look stiff. Hence backing shirt collars indeed, or shirt cuffs. Some formal jackets are entirely backed with interfacing. 2) to reinforce areas of a project that will be torn, pulled on, just manipulated a lot: wherever you have buttons, zippers, eyelets. Here it's not necessary to add interfacing to the collar to stiffen it because polar fleece fabric is thick and with the topstitching in 10:47 it'll stand on its own. As for interfacing it to reinforce it, it's not necessary, there isn't much pulling here. Hope it's clearer!

Modify the pattern before cutting your fabric, and then adding the zipper comes at the same moment as adding the buttons

What type of thread do you use? Will the stitches pop when stretched?
@isainstitches
@isainstitches Жыл бұрын
Yes good question! I sewed with a regular straight stitch, regular thread. My fabric is a bit stretchy indeed, so 1) the garment does include some ease it's not tight= no negative ease, 2) the seams may only pop if they're pulled on but I doubt I'll ever try and pull this garment down to my feet 2) as for most of the only horizontal seams, they are for the elastic bias, which I sewed while stretching the bias so the stitches already are adapted to stretching the bias to the max. Hope this helps!
