Personally, I think Italy is the best matchup for Japan imo as far as the top tier teams are concerned. I think Japan matches up better with the teams that mirror them than the power teams. But yes, Ishikawa and Ran have to really show up, but them beating Italy to win their first international medal is going to give them big belief even though Italy is really on form right now. I love the other matchups and all the hangups that they produce. Germany was the team that France eliminated to qualify for Tokyo, which obviously led to them being Olympic champions. Slovenia & Poland have a historical quasi-rivalry, and I’m giving Slovenia the edge here. And Brazil/USA are the two traditional powerhouses and mirror each other in being the oldest teams.

my thoughts on the 4 qfs: Ita/Jpn - either Italy wins in a 3 dong, or Japan wins in 5. France won't lose a qf at home, but it will be in 5. Slo/Pol - I got nothing. I have zero idea on who shows up for Poland. it could go either way. I think my only actual thought is that I don't think Slovenia gets 3 donged, but I could see Poland getting 3 donged. USA/Bra - USA in 5. Brazil won't lay down, too much pride and it's kind of a rivalry match. I think the sets the US wins will be decisive, like 25-17, and lose the 23-25, but win the 5th like 15-6

I’m with team Japan❤❤. But u were right. Italy got a very powerful defense which really hard for Japan in terms of height. We also saw it last year in their match. Most likely ishikawa and nishida will be in their radar. Sekita needs to utilize Yamauchi and onodera or probably if Kai was there in getting points. Ran must also be in a high gear today helping nishida for serve points just like what he did in team USA.
