People have genuinely died doing skeleton (and luge). I ice skate and snowboard and that's dangerous enough for me thank you!

Crazy thing with that finish is that Dukurs put up the second fastest run of heat 4, Montgomery just had the run of his life to snag gold.
@classicsportclassictiyl8547
@classicsportclassictiyl8547 Жыл бұрын
it was the run of his life Montgomery was 57 hundredths ahead of Tretyakov when he jumped on his sled he was a second ahead of the Russian at the bottom. Dukurs had the better start time he was 4.53 compared to Montgomery who was 4.61 but his load speed was a tenth of a kilometre worse than Montgomery's was 67.5 compared 67.4. By the time we got to the gold rush 50/50 section of the track it followed him all the way down his speed before gold rush was 1.5kph down on Montgomery 129.6 versus 131.1 and his top speed as a result was down by a kilometre 143.8 vs 144.8 that's why he took the wild line coming through Thunderbird. His lead was decreasing from -28 to -23 to -15 to -8 going into Thunderbird and he lost nearly a tenth through Thunderbird due to his lack of speed.

The last right hand bend at Vancouver is just wrong. The best in the world all whack their shoulders into it. And that Georgian luge racer had his fatal launch in that spot. I wonder if they will alter the design there. (posted Feb 2014)

Do you have any knowledge of why that corner is so bad? Was that ever acknowledged by Vancouver as bad course design? It sure does seem like a brutal corner for the athletes. Some navigated it pretty well but others could have really gotten hurt.

While it's especially true in the sliding sports that the host nation has an advantage, it was totally fair. Dukars took a high line on the final curve (which he didn't do in the previous run) and that's most likely what dropped him to second.
