How medal event is judged:
1 heat of 16 athletes competing with two :45 second runs each. Best run counts, scored 1-100. If an athlete falls during their run, the clock buzzer will sound and the run is over. Top 8 athletes from the elimination will advance to the final. Judges will score competitors throughout the contest.

New judges please; its called slopeSTYLE. Creativity is what grows the sport and should be rewarded. Spinning as much as possible gets so old both on the rails and jumps. Alex Hall can spin like crazy, but chooses to do more creative tricks like the reverts and hand-drags which makes it awesome to watch.

It’s all about technicality. People who do more high scoring technical tricks are going to have the opportunity to get the highest score.

@@emiliostieca no it isn’t. Each trick that they do is given a score rating and the athletes are judged based off of how well they performed each trick. If you do lower scoring tricks then you are capped at how many points you can earn, regardless of how well you perform the trick. It isn’t rocket science. Harder tricks are worth more points.

New format sucks. Every athlete who makes it to the X Games deserves 3 attempts at their runs in qualifying and the finals. X Games judging and format is now so bad that they're losing credibility in the extreme sports world.

Gymnast vs skier has become very blurred. I think winner was correct, but Alex's run 1 should have make it to the finals. Andri, though talented, has zero style. Disappointed overall.

From what I'm seeing it's still a cork and spin to win competition. Even though there are tons of grabs that are way more difficult to lock in and spin up, and rotations like rodeo, misty, bio, flatspin, it's still very much who is doing the cleanest corks with the most spin. How the comp is judged will impact the riders create on their runs. I would like to see higher scores for harder grabs, rotation/flipping variation, and points awarded for creativity and style. What happened to the bow and arrow, venom, liu kang?

I wish there were more style points. Maybe you could make a rule where 1 jump has to be less than 720 rotation and is judged more heavily on creativity and technique (perfect landing, perfect grab, etc).

I wish that they'd explain a bit more about the scoring. For example why does Stevensons first run only score 18 when he did all 3 Rails before losing his ski? Are the jumps scored a lot higher than the rails? Or what makes Halls first run 15 points worse than Forehands. I wish the commentators gave actual info about that since X-Games is basically the only contest I watch. Meanwhile when I watch diving at the Olympics the commentators give me a clear breakdown of difficulty and execution and what the judges look for which makes their reasoning way easier to understand.

Edit: okay maybe just no one knows how the scoring works. Cause otherwise there would be no reason for both Moffat and the commentators even discussing his 2nd run for making Finals. A 10 point gap should be something commentators should easily be able to spot and tell me where and how the run lost points.

Honestly thought the two rookies had the best runs of the day. Say what you want about the reffing (Max was robbed, Alex was robbed, and Konnor was robbed) but Luca did earn and deserve that win.

margin of error is so tight, the fact that your scores get reset into the final is kind've dumb, it's entirely plausible to throwdown in the playoffs & than flop the final which doesn't seem fair, i.m.o just give everyone 3 runs, scrap the final, don't do a tally score like in the past, just best run wins point. blank. period.

I agree with you but how else can you judge difficulty. It's tough to draw a distinction where style can overtake difficulty. It's easy to say a 1620 is more difficult than a 1260. How much style or variation is actually needed to make a 12 or 14 score higher than a 16, it's gotta be really good.
