I see it the same way. It is no much fun to watch on this icy snow.
@hypothalapotamus52936 күн бұрын
@@benjamingschosser9950 I see it completely differently. It's not interesting to watch people only ski in perfect powder. It gives a very skewed perspective on skiing and the relationship between the skier and the snow. You might say that Olaf doing two jump turns into a 360 off a cliff looks bad, possibly even cursed, but it does require a lot of condition specific technical skill and captures a truth about skiing that is lacking in many competitions.
@alpenjodel24Ай бұрын
I think prioritizing control over tricks is something that would also make the FWT better. With tricks, the skiing doesn't get better, it's just more insane trick every year so eventually it will turn into a slopestyle competition. We have seen that with downhill MTB events like RedBull Rampage.
@tustak28 күн бұрын
Its not for the competitors but for the viewers. More entertainment -> more views -> more marketing
@KM-em9me12 күн бұрын
@alpenjodel24 Most of these skiers are talented aerial tricksters with very weak skiing fundamentals. I remember following a camera crew and famous FWT legend on the Cirque into Daly Bowl one afternoon. When he started down the slope I thought what the hell is he up to skiing straight towards a patch of rocks...then he hits this little up shoot and does a textbook layout backflip with a perfect landing. I was like oh...I see what he was doing. They don't give a shit about doing perfect turns....they're only concentrating on their stunts.

Great video! Glad to see SBMC/NM get some recognition. Hardly anyone knows about it outside Scandinavia, and it is a truly challenging competition. I participated in 2018 and was super happy to make it to the finals. But as that was my goal, I didn't manage to summon the same stoke for the final run in Ravinen (only 1 final run that year due to fog), and my legs felt like overcooked spaghetti with little to put up against the rock hard snow. I'd like to add another factor that makes this comp difficult - the convexity of the faces, especially the qualifier face. This means you don't see many meters ahead of you until you're like two thirds down the face. I was planning to drop Ögat (the "small rock" you dropped) + Kvalklippan, but didn't see Ögat until I was past it. Went straight for skier's left of Kvalklippan, dropping through the little "gulley" close the end of the cliff. Might've been the hardest landing that I've managed to ride out. I'm impressed by your Swedish by the way, you're killing stereotypes about Americans!!

Wow! This is so mind blowing, I have only gone skiing once in my life and it was such a beginning slope. That was fun, and probably 18 years ago when I did it. I don't even know how you'll get on top of those slopes/drops, do they fly you up or is there a way to climb it that makes it easier?
@FEriksson29 күн бұрын
You walk up, not straight up the face but instead along a less steep but longer route. Typically freeriders and ski mountaineers would use climbing skins to get up mountains that are not served by lifts, but in this competition everyone walks up the same path so it becomes something resembling a staircase, making it easier to bootpack up. Also eliminates the need to bring the skins on the way down, saving weight!

This is a sick competition and not knocking the challenge of it, but saying it’s harder than FWT is an insane take. These faces are about 1/5th the size as FWT, so it’s basically a competition to see who can ski the same exact line and hit the same 3 features the smoothest. Not nearly as much creativity goes into this as a FWT comp. Sure this one might be harder to win for someone who’s never skied the terrain before and doesn’t have the experience, but it’s not even on the same level at FWT… Still a cool video and I enjoyed watching but a bit click-baity on the title for sure. You are a beast on the sticks though and the conditions were crazy hard. Not hating, just an honest take from the comfort of my home while my ass is on the couch and not out hucking cliffs
