In the past. As a Buddhist country. Probably sea food wasn’t considered meat historically. Tofu is big in East Asia. Rice needed a lot of land. Most Asians being lactose intolerant, egg and dairy weren’t cultivated. With money and western influence came an obsession with meat. Now reasonably priced meat alternatives, globalization, delicious options are raving traditions. I cook a lot at home but support vegan/vegetarian businesses. Also needing support- businesses that understand vegans and can make vegan and non-vegan meals.
