When people say they eat meat. The mean, I eat everything in the western diet including meat. Then they blame meat for their problems. Sugar and processed foods are the real killers. They unfortunately are in most diets.

actually, most people don't know that meat is in fact responsible for most of the leading diseases. if you look up carcinogens meat is up there with smoking. Eating meat goes hand in hand with high cholesterol intake and raises your chance of diabetes. the problem is that they *don't* blame meat for these problems because most people don't know about them. the meat industry is taking a page out of the tobacco industry's book in the 18 hundreds and publishing a lot of misinformation.

They've missed a trick here by not controlling for processed food intake. Either they should have allowed both a set amount of ultra-processed foods (burgers, fries, desserts, sausages) or should have had both go without it altogether. A lot of the large observational vegan studies show better outcomes, but that could be largely because the vegans are more given to consciously avoiding refined crappy food. In India, there is no diff in life expectancy in pre-dominantly veg states (Gujarat) and meat eating states (Kerala) when they're in the same GDP per capita range. This could be because Gujaratis are veg culturally, so their vegetarianism isn't a conscious dietary desicion and so they're as likely as others to eat crap. Strongly feel that vegan studies in the West are skewed because of this simple fact that when you choose to be vegan and have the will power to stick with it, you're also much likelier to choose to eat healthy and have the willpower to continue eating healthy. In a controlled study, they have missed a chance to control for what seems like a very obvious additional factor.

vegan diet is not healthy long term as only meat can provide with mineral necessary for our brain to function well. there is no plant based alternative that we know off. Some vegans experience brain fog, irritation, exhaustion only years after being vegan while others cannot last even days. India has tradition of vegetarian diet (not vegan) and climate of eating fresh vegetables and fresh spices all year around and also they use ghee which is clarified butter and paneer which is cheese made of yoghurt so mostly not vegan but vegetarian.

This is just another slanted study to promote eating vegan. If vegan long term were what these studies want to imply they would not have to muddy the water with processed foods, sugar and junk being eating by the other half of the study. Interesting study, but it still made the same mistake as I have seen in other discussions IMO. The biggest thing overlooked in this and many other vegan vs. "xxx" discussion diets is the fact the original diet of the individual who "turns vegan" is often, already unhealthy or the person had lacked original awareness of their daily diet. This is particularly underscored by how one of the twins commented how he was surprised how his "meat diet" composed of processed foods - why? You can eat very healthy foods including healthy, non-processed meat and dairy. I lived in Japan and the Japanese diet includes a rich variety of meat, fish, dairy, vegetables, fruit, etc., and it is still considered one of the healthiest in the world. Vegan diet seems to be so western-focused because food lifestyles in the West have declined steadily and this is also exhibited by research highlighting how there are obesity, diabetes and other health problems arising from poor diet and lack of exercise in Westernizing cities or Western countries compared to other parts of the world. If "going vegan" works for you, then great. My point is that food quality and general awareness of nutrition are fundamental in addition to exercise for leading a healthy lifestyle.

Better stay away from processed plant based foods then as they are likely to increase heart disease and not reduce it. With Cancer, you will still be getting cancer just as easily as the next person so if you drink or hang around people who smoke or even live in a city with street pollution, they all can give you cancer but sure, eating healthily can reduce some cancers but you dont need to not eat meat to to be healthy as it's about a healthy balanced diet and you are more likely to reach that balance with meat than without it though over eating on meat is bad for you. As for Diabetes, you are more likely to get it simply by being over 40 naturally or 25 if you are from African or south Asian descent. Issues with a vegan diet is the lack of nutrients with Anemia, depression and thyroid issues being the top problems and they in turn can cause further issues like triggering the big three that you mentioned above. My mum is a vegetarian and has been for most of her life, over 35 years and she's been overweight throughout all of that time so she is still likely to suffer from the issues you mentioned and I've dated a couple of vegans, both had severe anemia and one also had a thyroid problem and both were depressed... A vegan wholefood and plant-based diet is far better for you, an provide the opportunity to live a longer and healthier life. Go do you're due research if you're not informed, I think it will be enlightening as you cannot argue with the facts. As you're talking subjectively about how food makes you "feel", I'm talking from a point of science and well done long term research into the overall health outcomes from all food groups, an a whole food plant based diet is just the healthiest outcome for all age groups at all stages of life.

cut everything out except meat and then see what effects you as you add things back in again. Our natural human diet is basically meat, with very little (to often no) fruit. All the vegetable's (and tbh almost all of the fruit but its less toxic) is man made. You can say animals were selectively bred too but they have always been edible, unlike most of the plants we now eat. Diet isnt that complicated, you just have to follow what we evolved eating. All the other food is whats causing the problems.

The great thing is that you don't have to go 100% vegan to get big results. I ate vegan about 85% of the time (I'd still have milk in my coffee in restaurants, and would indulge in the occasional piece of chicken while eating out as well as eat things that I knew had dairy in them (ex. a donut with my coffee) yet I still had tremendous improvements in my health. I eliminated congestion (I no longer snored at night, I became a quiet breather,) I dropped a LOT of weight without even dieting or trying to lose it, my blood pressure dropped by a large amount (I had very high blood pressure before) and I generally just looked and felt better. @thegrinderman10902 жыл бұрын
@Jeff C It absolutely can be. There's a reason why the majority of elite athletes (who obviously have the best nutritionists) eat meat. It's a tried and tested way to be optimally healthy based on current science. That is not to say that all diets containing meat are healthy of course, the same way it would be ridiculous to say that all plant-based diets are healthy. More of these athletes and nutritionists are adopting a plant-based diet these days, because there is evidence to support it also being possible to be optimally healthy without animal products. If there was undeniable evidence that a plant-based diet was 'healthier' (a subjective term anyway) than a diet including meat, all top athletes would have already stopped eating meat. I would love for that to happen but we don't have the data to back that up yet.
@thegrinderman10902 жыл бұрын
@Jeff C When I said absolutely I meant based on current science. We could find out in the future that a vegan diet is strictly better, but that hasn't happened yet. As far as we know, it matters what you eat, not where you sourced it. So you think if I were to eat 1 gram of the highest quality chicken breast per day, I'm going to be less healthy than someone who ate that same amount of nutrients from plant sources? Even though that 1g of chicken doesn't cause a significant amount of negative side effects, e.g. inflammation. By saying that there is a black and white difference in 'healthiness' (again, not even a very useful term) between meat eaters and vegans, is you making an absolute claim where there isn't one. I guarantee most of the world's best nutritionists work for the world's best professional athletes. Why do you think you have better information than them? We will of course see a rise in veganism among athletes for several reasons, but what you're saying implies that in just a few years, almost all world records will be held by vegans. I say it implies this, because at the top level of any sport, the slightest advantage makes all the difference. If an optimal vegan diet gives an athlete a significantly improved performance over a meat eater, all serious athletes would become vegan. But that hasn't been proven, therefore it isn't happening. I have seen Game Changers and know of several vegan weightlifters on KZbin. I've been vegan for 6 years and have converted several people to veganism in that time. There are many reasons to be vegan. With the health argument, you can find compelling arguments on either side if that's what you search for. Seeing what top athletes do is a much better test of what's working. Again, that is not to say that a meat-eating athlete is healthier than a vegan one, just that if there is a difference between the two, it is not significant enough for people whose lifelong goal and place in the history books depend on the tiniest improvements, to make the switch.

I ended up sticking with it and 4 years later my bloods came back perfectly healthy and I'm no longer calling myself an animal lover while paying to kill 6 month old animals kept in dark sheds. It's also drastically better for the environment. The estimated impact of eating meat every day costs 1 animal life, 1,100 gallons of water, 40 pounds of grain, 30 sq ft of forest, and 20 lbs CO2. Every day you’re a vegan saves the equivalent.

This is why the body responds negatively to high amounts of animal proteins. It is simply a statistical (and biological) fact. Look it up. You say that plants can't produce vitamin B12? Animals can't produce B12 either. Livestock are given B12 supplements so that humans can absorb it when we eat their dead bodies. I've been vegan for nearly 3 years. I ride my fixie in my hilly city most days, I skateboard several hours a week, I can dance to techno for 10 hours at a rave at least once a month. I've never had more energy in all my life. I have more energy now at 31 than nearly every one of my friends in their early 20s. I eat twice a day, usually something like Huel around midday, then a full cooked meal around 8pm, though chips/fries is basically a food group for me lol. I was low in Iron and B12, however was v easily sorted, and most food is fortified now anyway. I indulge in snacks (crisps, usually savoury stuff) most days, maybe have a couple of cans of cola per week though am generally averse to sugar, and drink equivalent to a bottle of wine in a week though i've fallen out of love with alcohol in a big way (by far the worst drug going). I think we should differentiate between vegan and whole-food plant-based. After all, Twinkies and Coke is a vegan diet. 7 years ago I ended up in a hospital and after every high-priced test known to man, only one result came back positive- diabetes. My doctor had the good sense to refer me to an endocrinologist. She didn't want to put me on medication and told me to return in 3 months- but without giving me any directions. Doctor Google led me to the whole-food plant-based diet (I'd been lacto vegetarian since 1970) and 3 months later my test came back negative. I lost 20 kilos, lowered my blood pressure, and the symptoms that put me in hospital disappeared. My weight has remained stable since then, and at 76 I'm still in good health.. I realize that I'm only one person, but if you research plant-based doctors you will find that my experience is replicated consistently..

As far as getting optimal nutrients on a vegan diet, it's pretty simple: all nutrients come from plants. Animals don't produce amino acids, fatty acids or minerals (protein, omegas, calcium, iron, etc). They get them from plants and so can we, easily and in their purest form. For B-12 (a fermented plant bacteria) we can get it from multiple sources, but just taking a B Complex a few time a week is the best bet. For Omega-3, I just put flaxseed in my smoothies, and romaine lettuce is also a good source. Iron -- Leafy greens, peanuts, etc. The bottom line is humans do not need nor benefit from a single bite of meat, eggs or dairy.

@wallacesousuke14332 жыл бұрын
@@donwinston sir you really need to get your facts straight.. "sludge blood" that's a term I have never stumbled upon in any of the hundreds of science papers I've read to this day. Fat doesnt simply stays in the bloodstream after digestion, it's instead absorbed by the lymphatic system and then oxidized or stored. only a small part goes back to the blood, bound by lipoproteins and serum albumin. "and impairs circulation and athletic performance." Neither is true. In fact, fat is beneficial for athletes: "It is recommended that athletes consume a moderate amount of fat (approximately 30% of their daily caloric intake). Higher-fat diets appear to maintain circulating testosterone concentrations better than low-fat diets." "Saturated fat stimulates cholesterol production " Partly true, our organism requires cholesterol to produce hormones, vitamin D and are part of cell's membranes. "and principle cause of coronary heart disease" There's no link between healthy fat consumption and heart disease. The problem lies with microlesions in the artery walls mostly due to high blood pressure and inflammation, also not every type of cholesterol is bad, ou should worry about small dense LDL, mostly found in refined sugar, simple carbs and trans fat. " causing insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes." Fat doesnt affect insulin secretion, it's carbs/sugar that do that. And yeah, fat hsa the most calories but it's also the most satiating macronutrient so it's hard to overeat fatty food
@donwinston2 жыл бұрын
it is a fact that saturated fat impairs athletic performance. Sludge blood is just something I made up. If you eat a meal high in fat your blood gets sticky and is one of the reasons it impairs athletic performance. But that is temporary. More importantly high fat diets CAUSE cardiovascular disease. That's a fact despite what the low carb keto twits say that you find here on KZbin. By the way there is no significant difference between large and small LDL cholesterol in size. Both CAUSE heart disease and strokes. There are some other kinds of cholesterol that are something like 10 times bigger and do not cause a problem. The big fluffy LDL is harmless lie is often spread around by keto/carnivore twits. I did not say fat causes insulin secretions. Insulin secretions is NOT harmful anyway. I said it causes insulin resistance. It gums up the cells and lessens the effectiveness of insulin. Carbohydrates including sugar do NOT cause insulin resistance unless you eat too much FOOD and get fat.You only need a very small amount of so called "healthy fats" to be healthy. Something like less than two grams. Eating more than that will NOT make you healthier assuming you eat enough calories in protein and carbs. It is a fact that populations who eat a low fat high carb low protein diet live significantly longer and have way less diabetes, and way less cardiovascular disease than populations that eatn a high fat diet.

I’m in no way saying anything negative about that experience and will say I would do well to move at least halfway in that direction as at 54 I’m not as healthy but I did two experiments back then that I’ll note. One is about creatine. Naturally you would only get it from meat eating which by the way is natural. At the time I would do 5 sets of 8 pull ups. I took creatine with my caveman body would have been craving. In two weeks I could do 5 sets of twelve. It was amazing. The incredible jump was because of my dietary lack of creatine. Then at 30 I injured my leg. As an experiment I tried without any preparation a Low carb diet. The first thing I ate was a bloody steak 🥩 No stomach upset at all after 10 years. Then after a very short time people started asking me what I was doing different because I put on so much muscle without changing my workouts. My body needed more protein and a natural source of creatine. At 54 I’m not as lean and healthy as I was. I need to lose fat and improve my cardio. Need to stop drinking out of stress but I’m stronger and have more muscle than when I was 29. I think the a findings here are very honest. Variety, moderation, avoiding junk and exercise. My issue is extremes.

I've been a vegetarian most of my adult life. I've tried going vegan, but I didn't have the tenacity to stick with it. Also. my wife doesn't even like being vegetarian so losing the butter, cheese, and cream is a pretty hard sell since the vegan alternatives to those things don't cut the mustard for her. Kudos to you that have been able to do it.

It's because you're body is addicted to dairy. Cheese send endorphins to your brain like a drug. I had a hard time giving up dairy because I loved cheese. But the guilt finally outweighed my taste for cheese, and I didn't eat any cheese, vegan or non vegan, for a month. then I tried vegan cheese again and it tasted much better than when I was eating it while also eating dairy cheese.

@@brenoharantes I just don't get it. So, "if it's an animal, it suffers and it's miserable. If it's a plant, it's not." Because? Both have cells, right? Both are alive, right? We need to have things that are kind of "alive" to survive, right? productiveness and sustainability are kind of logical reasons to be vegan if you really want to help the environment (I hope you're also recycling, saving energy or going off the grid, consuming products to a minimum, and also not using a car to reduce your co2 fingerprint in that case). Not making things suffer (just because you're not sure or don't understand suffering in the other) is not a very logical reason...

I went vegan for half a year. Kept up with my running routine and had a stress fracture within three months. I was constantly hungry and could not focus well. Not everybody's body reacts well to any diet.
@jibjubby2 жыл бұрын
Veganism isn't a diet. It's an ethic, to reduce unnecessary animal suffering. There are a million different diets that are vegan, each with different health impacts, and you can choose the right one for yourself, but eating animal products will only hold you back. High cholesterol is one of the biggest killers in the western world and easily fixable by removing cholesterol and lowering sat fats (your body makes all it needs of both). if you're hungry you should eat more. of course you can't focus if you haven't eaten enough food. You'll find that starving yourself on any diet will cause problems.
@zerocooljpn2 жыл бұрын
@@jibjubby veganism is considered a diet or philosophy (per definition, it matches a diet, so I guess you can't say it isn't). You can look it up in the dictionary or wikipedia. If you like animals so much, and want to "reduce unnecessary animal suffering", great for you, I guess. (I wonder how you define "necessary", and whether it's really animal "suffering" or your sorriness for them what you're trying to get rid of. Either way, kind of an emotional way to pick a diet...). Anyway, vegan or whatever, having fractures and feeling stress due to it are obviously not good results ;) And, totally true that people react different to the same diet. Hope you're doing better!

I was vegan for 11 years, from 20-31. I was healthy enough, but overweight, and my teeth did not fare well. I felt ok, and I definitely made an effort to eat lots of fruit veg and plant protein, but I made some mistakes. I began eating seafood and then meat for a couple years, and I felt like I had come back to life. I slimmed down somewhat. It was also a huge relief to be able to join in meals with family and friends and just eat what they did. For me this is very, very important. Then at 33, I did raw food vegan for about a year. Weirdly, that was actually one of the healthiest and happiest times in my life; I dropped more excess weight and loved doing this, but it was unsustainable. My teeth were in bad shape and I didn’t have the best poops, but I loved giving that a try. I’ll never forget that time in my life. Due at first to the influence of a boyfriend, and then because it felt right,I tried an animal-product based keto diet on and off for the next 9 years, though during that time I did eat vegan for months at a time, and also learned about the miracle of fasting. I ate a lot of meat during this time, but also a lot of vegetables. It was almost zero processed food. and I believe this healed my teeth and made up for a lot of nutritional deficiencies, which can take many years to accumulate. Now, at 43, I eat everything pretty much, but eliminate processed food where possible (I still eat whatever I’m served in peoples’ homes, this is incredibly important to me since I did not do so for a long time), and just mainly focus on eating less and very simply when I prep food for myself. I also adore fasting. I’m in a very good place with food and health. Eating meat in a conscientious way is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s very much a natural part of the human diet, and every culture in the world has known that for thousands of years, though it doesn’t need to be the main element. I do still understand the vegan buzz and appeal. I would recommend getting your bloodwork done if you keep it up for longer than about five years. Some will be fine, some won’t be, and many won’t make it that long.

I really appreciate this comment for not condemning one diet over the other. I’ve flirted with veganism for years but, having issues with B-vitamins and the way my body can’t process them, I just can’t function without some meat. I purchase from local, humane farms and eat only wild-caught as much as possible. The challenge for me is eating a wider variety of veggies and staying away from processed foods.
@jicalzad2 жыл бұрын
i think everyone can agree that the processed foods should be eliminated or significantly limited. I'm starting to wonder if eating healthy has more to do with not only avoiding processed foods, but also just limiting the total quantity of food. That way one can pretty much enjoy a variety of all foods whilst remaining healthy.

@@jettagliturbo ah yes, America has made it to the pinnacle yet again. Veganism is the only way to ethically survive, and even if local food varieties around the world vary, what they really need is to be more resourceful. One day America will conduct an inquisition, if you will, to enforce their worldview on independent nations and regions to ensure they cessate off of harmful meat eating behavior. From then on, humans will finally have skipped the food chain and truly separated themselves from the animals they so adore that they would deign to consume of them.

@@jettagliturbo or will we, in our infinite wisdom, begin our quest to eliminate any animals eating other animals? After all, they are sentient and tearing of another’s flesh is morally wrong.
