Menards Union Pacific Set Review

The holes in the stacks, as far as I know, are there for their Rocket Diner building (F unit converted to a diner) which has smoke. I don't know if they plan to produce these with smoke units. This unit looks alright. If I bought it I'd probably not use the bell, but the other sounds are great. Thanks for the review!

In time boxes wear out and get separated from the train. Instruction sheets preserved somewhere are useful!

This is a sweet O Gauge set which can be used as a starter set for youngsters interested in entering the hobby of electric trains, or a nice addition to an established O Gauge layout. Great features of directional LED locomotive lighting and blinking caboose lights, horn, bell, and crew talk far outweigh the very minor paint flaws that may appear. This is truly a bargain at $250 for the complete set. I hope Menard’s considers additional roadnames and paint schemes for future F7 train set offerings, and perhaps bringing out a small 0-4-0 or 0-6-0 tank switcher with similar features and low cost. Time will tell. 🚂

A very nice engine. It looks like it has a steam generator, so it would be good engine for passenger trains. As far as opening doors, hatches and windows, meh. You don't see them opening and closing while it is running and there isn't a button on the remote to operate them while sitting in a station or service track, etc. This applies to Lionel and MTH, also. Paint quality and more detailing aren't visible when running, either. If somebody makes a comment about that, let them know that you will be glad to have them give you an expensive, high-end locomotive. The Menard's line is a win for all O gauge modelers. Decent quality at a good price. Keep up the fine videos.
