She already talks to herself like the 'pros' do. Many great pianists have been known to silently move their mouths as if they are talking while they perform. She is incredibly beautiful. Wow, Amazing performance!

Compared to other videos of the same performance by Yuja, this captures the best parts of her external expressions after the emotional transition from a kind of delicately pensive to briskly blissful. No wonder most find this one more enjoyable.

OMG....This is actually the way this concerto should be played ! I felt as if it were the first time I had heard this concerto....by that I mean I was transported back to the 1840s when it was composed !!! She plays it so crisp, lithe, and with unbridled excitment, unlike all other pianists with their bogus heavy affectations. Amazing little girl....and I don't even know her name or anything about her. This concerto is best performed by oungsters, not oldters. Bravo all the way !

One day Yuja Wang was walking down the street when she came across a gathering of people huddled around a man. This man was lying on the ground, having just suffered a massive heart attack. Surely he was dead. "Step back!" She proclaimed and the crowd immediately parted. Kneeling down, she ran the tips of her fingers up and down the man's chest as if she were playing the piano and he miraculously sprung back to life! The crowds cheered and Yuja Wang, her work done, flew off into sky.

I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert last week playing with the Russian National Orchestra performing the Emperor's Concerto, a piece below her level of talent, but she was absolutely magnificient! I love watching her play, and she did the same thing in concert as I see on these videos, she mouths the notes that she plays sometimes...anyone know what that is? Bravo Yuja Wang!
I tried getting tickets to see her at Denison University a few weeks ago, but it was a closed performance with limited seating for general public, and I didn't know about it until too late. I'd love to see her come to the N.E. Ohio area and participate in the Blossom Summer Concert Series with TCO, or play Severance Hall next season. She's a phenomenal talent. I'd love to hear her tackle Litolff.

Alexandra Dovgan is giving her a run for money on this concerto!
@ghoshneh5 жыл бұрын
Dovgan's right-hand melodies are more articulated than Wang, but then Dovgan doesn't still have the power on her left hand to play the chords more pronounced due to her very young age. Wang plays the left-hand dynamics a lot more accurate.
@sandplus50485 жыл бұрын
No, I recognize A. Dovgan is good, but she needs to mature more. A fine good wine, but it needs aging.
@mikoajmikoaj82685 жыл бұрын
@@sandplus5048 Mature more ? Are u serious ? Alexandra plays it in a more mature way than Yuja. She has bigger legato, richer sound and more expression. I totally respect Yuja, I cannot criticize her but Dovgan with her Russian fingers wins :)
@ghoshneh5 жыл бұрын
@absoftitanium Sure, we are saying the same thing I think. Meant to say the matter of articulation is just related to her very young age and strength in her fingers still developing, not her amazing musicality!
@paulpage12654 жыл бұрын
Left hand strength, etc. Come on! Both performers are simply amazing. Why not just leave it at that? Dovgan is, though, enormously talented not only as a skillful pianist, but as a musician who “understands” what she’s playing with truly-gifted intuition. And her manner of performance is so unaffected and delightful. I hope she never becomes jaded in her manner or interpretations. Yuja and Alexandra are NOT in competition; nor should their performances be compared. Each brings the highest level of musicianship and physical dexterity to every performance. What a delight to be able to hear them in my living room. (The online outfits who are trying to monetize these performances are, in my opinion, doing a disservice to classical music. The great musicians in the world, either pop, jazz, Vocal/choral, classical will certainly garner sufficient accolades and live concert receipts to support them comfortably as they continue to pursue their art without the internet controllers who are mostly interested in just making money.)

its funny when people criticize pianists. They don't realize they are also criticizing the conductor and the audience. The pianist doesnt just appear and forces her way into a concert. She has to be there for a reason, and the audience is there because they chose to watch that pianist.

To all the know-nothings who say there is no emotion: 1) It's the f**king 3rd movement of the Mendelssohn 1st concerto. Pure virtuoso display music, what kind of "emotion" are you expecting? 2)Check out the video of her Scriabin set from Santa Fe (yeah, the one with the tiny purple dress.) Then dare to tell me there is no feeling in her playing.

@bennyboy12341234 That's a great observation! Minus a single measure near the end of that video, she doesn't pedal at all. I noticed this in another video of her playing Mozart as a kid - no pedal. I actually came to realize, just a couple days ago, that I personally rely too much on pedaling when I play for exactly the same reason you mentioned - to help cover myself when I get sloppy. There's a lesson in there for aspiring pianists - fix your errors, don't cover them up!
