Greetings from Sweden. I miss playing on my flute. It was some years ago since I played on it after many years of playing in different orchestras in my youth. Having a Sankyo Etude but it needs some love after so many years of inactivity 😊

Hi Emily, Which syllables do you recommend for shorter and longer articulations?
@EmilyBeynonflute Жыл бұрын
Hi Garren, thanks for your question! With articulation, as with so many issues, everyone’s answer might be slightly different… listen to what sounds best for YOU!! I usually use D (and G) for a ‘sung’ articulation and more of T (and K) for a more brittle staccato…. but have a listen to what sounds best for you! And let me know….

Leaving out those mentioned notes works well in a concert, but not in an audition where it is a competitive situation and there are those on the committee who thrive on looking for reasons to cut people. One time I left out the G and got cut as a result.

Yes, maybe… but I always hope there are those listening who appreciate music over pure sport!! 😜 I know I would always rather hear someone play musically, and ‘telling a story’ but who perhaps misses out a note than a player who nails all the notes but doesn’t ‘say’ anything with them.

Have you ever heard of the assistant 1st (or 2nd) flute playing the third and fourth measures before Q so that the 1st can take a big breath and come back in two before Q? Would the 1st then have to share the bow? 😠
@EmilyBeynonflute Жыл бұрын
😂 no I haven’t! But if that’s the way it sounds best, then why not?!
