This 43-minute video lesson explores an in-depth look at the Lieder ohne Worte (“Songs Without Words”) Op.30 No.6, Venetianisches Gondellied (“Venetian Boat Song” or “Venetian Gondola Song”) by Felix Mendelssohn. This piece is the last in the Op.30 set, and is among the most famous of all of Mendelssohn’s “Songs Without Words” (comprising eight volumes, with six pieces in each opus). Areas of focus include tempo, touch, how to properly voice the melody and keep the accompaniment soft, how to effectively use dynamics and create variety with similar passages, how to develop a good sense of rubato, proper use of pedaling, how to develop faster and more relaxed trills, performance tips, and many other concepts to help you become as efficient as possible in your practice sessions.
