9:40 - the fact that this was written for a violin where they can play across strings, and to hear it played this smoothly on the flute is truly amazing. I would have thought this piece was impossible for the flute with all the techniques meant for the violin - remarkable! Also, the way that the octaves are imitated is so clever... Loved every second of it - great job :)
@shestewa65814 жыл бұрын
Your observation is correct: it's *really, really hard*. Not just the speed you need to move your fingers but with how on flute you need to change octave with your air pressure so the struggle is more like "Lung control" to get it all smooth in synchronisation with the lightning fingers. Her interpretation is insane. I can't get it anywhere near as smooth or fast. It's mindblowing.

I bet you have not heard of the soprano saxophone version....
@itsguidry81252 жыл бұрын
as a current flute major, i can confirm that it's not meant to be playable on this instrument and it takes an incredible amount of control of the mouth and air pressure to pull off, let alone with that level of clarity

I read an interview in which Ms Choi said that for all her lessons with Julius Baker at Curtis she had to memorize EVERYTHING that training did her WELL for this performance I can't even begin to imagine memorizing something so intricate and long and STILL play so stunningly beautifully

Jasmine when a musician reaches the plateau of Master Musician, it's very difficult to distinguish one from another. But YOU are special, not only are you at the TOP but you are more than just an instrument player, you go beyond the call in that you ARRAIANGE, MEMORIZE and ADAPT the music to be PLAYED BY YOU ON YOUR FLUTE. Very few soloists bother to memorize and the fact that you do memorize just enhances the appreciation and admiration that I, and I'm sure the vast majority of audiences have for YOU. What's left to 'improve'? Not much, but when I was watching and listening to you and seeing how lovely your gown is, I don't know where this comes from, BUT, IF that dress was more in tune with your flute...let's say that instead of blue, your dress was gold, to match the flute, and the top of your dress stayed the same, the silver filigree, that would've been the icing on the cake. But that little observation took nothing away from your perfect performance.

Dear Jasmine, Your Mendelssohn is like the finest wine which gets better and better every time I hear you play. I love the previous version, adored the piano accompanied version when your were in Hong Kong, but this to me is even better in every way. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece with us! I see you performed this with the bridge - even more powerful than before!

The flute actually really fits the 3rd movement in particular. Amazing performance, especially in the long fast passages that a composer would never normally force onto a flute

This is absolutely insane- the technical mastery of the things not meant for flute, like the octaves and the arpeggiated passage at the end of the cadenza- all pulled off masterfully and musically. I am so impressed

Disclaimer: I'm a cellist and can't speak too much for violin techniques OR flute techniques, but as a string player I know arpeggione are a lot easier with string crossings than having to play each note individually with air

That violin concerto e minor is a fabulous display and performance, the whole orchestra are so coordinated, you and the others deserve real praise, it is not easy to play the flute so well in front of the audience, you are very full of confidence, you all surely had practice many times real hard, this is one of my favourite video because it is so well play and last very long. Thanks for sharing this amazing concert, it will be always a good memory for all musicians.

This is what happens when you are so talented you have played through the entire flute repertoire. As a flutist, I am impressed with the level of technical ability of course, but that is the easier part of flute playing. What most impresses me is the fine control at the extremes of the range and the near perfect pitch. The tone and timbre are exquisite and the vibrato is just right. Brava, madam!

violins have the best rep... always have, always will :( still, this is an incredible arrangement-- it sounds so natural and keeps all of the best elements of the original. and of course the performance is beyond spectacular, but i feel like that's sort of a given whenever you're listening to jasmine x3 you make everything sound so effortless and beautiful. your low B is so solid and gorgeous, and your D7? no difficulties whatsoever. it's perfect. i realize i'm just repeating what people have been saying of your playing for years now, but i'm starstruck. and a little jealous. xD amazing music, amazing flutist, amazing orchestra. as a listener, what more could you ask for?

Your Mendelssohn is like the finest wine.... and very lyrical and dazzling :) The flute actually really fits well for the 3rd movement in particular than the original violin, with its fleet and graceful melody, and an effervescent, quicksilver and light touch (a la Mendelssohnian scherzo). (Although I enjoy both, the flute version fits the bill!)
