Composed by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Incidental Music "A Midsummer Night's Dream Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus Conductor: Otto Klemperer Edith Mathis, soprano Brigitte Fassbender, alto Recorded live at the Hercules Saal, Munich, May 23, 1969 *This is the same day program as the famous Scottish Symphony. Klemperer recorded the same piece with the Philharmonia Orchestra in 1960, which is also a masterpiece, but this live recording is very good. The richness of the sound, the incomparable creation of fantasy praised by Boulez, and especially the longing and melancholy in the Nocturne (31:16)give us a glimpse of the fundamental desire for the myths depicted in Shakespeare's world of drama. We have found some defects on the original recording that we believe are due to age-related deterioration. Since it is not something that can be fixed by editing, we regret to inform you that the "Wedding March," "Theatre of Craftsmen," and part of the final song "Faint Light" will be left as they are. If we are able to obtain them at an auction in the future, we would like to renew them and upload them again. Until that time, we would appreciate your kind understanding and forgiveness.
