I purchased both the FocusCalm (FC) and a month later the Mendi. After two months I have felt a noticeable increase in my "calmness" in stressful situations. I have improved on the FC calm games over the two months. For example, I can on a good day reach 8.5 FC minutes from a 10 minute game of "Brain Paint" or "Campfire" and 7.2 FC minutes from the "Soothing Space". When I go to the focus games, the numbers are drastically less. So for 2 minutes of "Letterhead" or "Treasure Tracker" I get a maximum of 0.3 minutes. These latter games seem to require active thinking to identify the word from four jumbled-up letters, or to remember the box that contains the treasure after it is mixed up with up to 5 other boxes. So, the blog seems to suggest that the improvement here is to succeed in the games while staying relaxed. Okay, I will keep going. Now the Mendi suggests that the one game is there to increase the oxygen to the pre-frontal cortex (PFC). It would suggest that Mendi is exercising the brain. However, if I use my meditation technique that I use for the FC when I am using Mendi, I can get as good a Mendi score as when I am trying to keep the Mendi ball going up. So, here is my question, is the Mendi complementary to the FocusCalm or an alternate. Do I get different brain training from the Mendi as I do from the FC (I suppose that is only a valid question if I use a different technique with Mendi as I do FC). Any thoughts from anyone? Is it good enough that I use the FC and have no need for Mendi. Also how do I get the Focus game scores on FC up from their current position.

I have a Muse S Gen 1 and a Gen 2. I bought a Mendi 3 weeks ago. I like the Mendi and it feels like it helps with the minor anxiety I occasionally experience. I am practicing "letting go" with the Mendi as I tend to try to hard when the ball makes a big dive. It took me a while to realize that it is the background that is moving, not the ball. I find that the Muse S and the Mendi reinforce my practices.
@denny81112 жыл бұрын
After a while can you control the ball during mendi session? It seems random to me, I am at 2 weeks and still can't figure out how to control the ball. I am doing mendi first before 10 minutes meditation with muse every morning.
@CodyRallMD2 жыл бұрын
Great! Yes, it helps to try and reinforce the frontal lobe blood flow by just "feeling good" when the ball goes up, as I explained in this video (if you haven't seen it already) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvVoGWni7l1g7s

@@denny8111 I follow the instruction to feel the headband on the forehead. When the ball starts to pulsate and become larger, I feel the pulsations. But no, I don't feel like I am controlling the ball. My results say 60 seconds is the longest I am in control.

@@denny8111 I have the Mendi, it took a few weeks for me to control the ball. Dr. Cody's hints are great, the only suggestion I have is to start out with short sessions (1 minute). Good luck!

I just wanted to share some experiences I made with my mendi device. They are more on the naughty side. A few weeks ago (I had been practicing with the mendi for a few weeks) I decided to get baked and got some pot. As I live in an illegal state you can never say how potent the weed is. And lord, it was potent, but I realized after I had smoked. I felt the intense stoned and under normal conditions this would have been a very uncomfortable situation, maybe resulting in panic. But I remembered that feeling of upregulating my PFC and so I could calm down and have an awesome evening. Something different: I do a bit of juggling. And when I practice with the mendi a lot I feel like I'm much better at juggling. It's almost like the balls are standing in front of me and I just have to pick them out of the air.

Hello, I have bipolar. Mostly excessive high beta waves are causing major discomfort during episodes. Almost constant anxiety all the time and even the smallest things trip me into panic attacks that disconnect me for days. I am barely getting through life right now. On a qeeg a few years before my bipolar was diagnosed it showed my right frontotemporal area (f8) had excessive high beta. I think substance use made this worse hence the bipolar which has periods of ramping up of high beta. What device would you recommend?

Hi Dr Cody, Thank you for the informative video. Could you please recommend whether Mendi or Focuscalm would be better for a person wanting to improve how he deal with stressful/pressured situation (work and personal) and why? From your video I think FocusCalm? (I am trying my best to research since both are not available where I am based). Thank you in advance.

Dr Cody what do you suggest for someone who had a tbi. I had a fairly severe concussion which hasn’t really affected my memory much but it did leave me with a permanent headache that never goes away and I’m dizzy and light headed. This makes me nervous while driving and being nervous or stressed makes my symptoms worse so the longer I drive the more dizzy faint I feel which worries me more making me more dizzy more faint and it snowballs. I thought maybe focus calm as it keeps you calm under pressure or is there a better device that can help me relax when I’m worried. Driving has been my biggest challenge as it’s almost making me agoraphobic to an extent

You are being WAY too generous with the FocusCalm. It's basically a rehash of the NeuroSky Mindwave, which is cheaper and more than a decade old, while the mendi is a bleeding edge technology.

Hi Cody can you give me technical advise on the Mendi. I just wish to know the right power supply for the Mendi. I live in the UK and have been using biofeedback and Hemi Sync since the 1980's. I just need to known the votage and amps e.t.c. I can not get a reply from the Mendi site and there is no usual manual with this device. It looked good, so I saved up and purchased a headset. I am not used to the no support. With my years of using biofeedback I would be and could be very helpful.

There are a plethora of books about disasters in national parks. I feels it is very irresponsible to put emergency responders in a position where they have to rescue you or retrieve your body. My daughter lost a friend in the Grand Canyon who was a runner. He overheated and died from heat exhaustion and this was someone who knew better. Don't do this to yourself or recommend it to anyone.
