Dear Dr Cody, I could not agree more with you on your evaluation. Let me just add that Mendi is a lot user friendly than Muse. Warm personal attention vs a long questionnaire before you can even write your request. For this reason alone I've totally abandoned Muse and will not return despite myself doing very well at some stage with the Muse S. Mendi has brought me nothing but positive vibes. Appreciate this...I have both, and have found benefits similar to yours. My only complaint is that the Muse can 'drop-out', even if everything is seemingly prepared and that can be frustrating, esp if I'm in a flow state in the meditation and then, committed to the Muse process, have to break to reconnect the device (I have found that adding salt to a bit of water at the connectors seems to help). A fun thing to do with the Mendi is pranayam/cyclic breathing, as it feels that it gives preferential power to the pre-frontal cortex (eg. the ability to make ball move on the app).

I watched your Mendi videos and git inspired. I uses Mendi for >70 days every day without any day left. Unfortunately I did not get any result. I have not been able to get a least minimum of control of the Mendi ball. All reactions of the ball remained pure chance. And even in my daily life I did not notice any difference. I''ve asked 3 time the Mendi support for ideas or support. So I've stopped it pretty much frustrated and did not use since. Again not realising any difference.

I'm meditating for over 30 years and recently bought a Muse, because I wanted a look at my brain wave patterns. After 3 weeks I'm totally disappointed, because I need the external Brain monitor app to even show me the actual brainwave reading. The Muse app and visualisation is a joke. It's utterly useless and looks like it's just a random graph without any meaning. To make things worse, the biofeedback seems to be ONLY for a certain kind of focussing mediation and only rewards that. So they are forcing you into what they think mediation is! My best meditations that were pure calm and stillness had the worst "ratings", while when I was just superficially focusing, I got over 400 birds in one session. After 3 weeks the readings are making even less sense to me. It's like the exact opposite of what is shown in the app that is true in my experience. Maybe for total beginners a focusing meditation is good to start with, but for me, I'm opening my awareness infinitely, producing high alpha, delta and gamma (only to be seen in mind monitor) - which is giving you wrong results in the Muse app. At least they should give us the choice and show meaningful graphs. So I'm only using it with MM now and without biofeedback (which makes it kind of useless). Thanks for the Mindi tipp - I ordered one and will test it out. Your videos are awesome and thanks for making them useful for advanced users like me! I wished I had discovered you earlier. Oh and btw. My most favorite wearable for relaxation is the VNS device Amofit S - it's even better than the Apollo Neuro (which is also great) - what makes it so useful is that you can wear it all day and it helps DURING stressful situations and not like most others AFTER (in mediation etc) - the Amofit is a life changing device for me. 😀

Thanks Atmos! I will have to check out the Amofit S! My Muse feedback goes haywire when I expand consciousness as well. I like to use it for about 20minutes to stabilize my attention on the breath, then remove the headband when I want to elevate into higher Beta and Gamma frequencies. I talk about it in this video: Hope that helps! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jKi6iGqkntCMedU

@@CodyRallMD Thanks! In the meantime I also found out that the app features I was missing were due to my language settings. I had to set my whole iphone to English (German is my native language) and now it's a totally different Muse app! The readings now make more sense - although it's annoying that there are no language settings in the app and I only found this out by experimenting. I also just do focusing meditation with it and for that it works well. By the way, the Amofit is also a PEMF device similar to the Neorythm (which I also love) but more for resonance with the Vagus nerve and you can wear it all day around your neck for continuous calming frequencies.

@@DigitalSamTV I love both and they have become very valuable daily companions. The Amofit is much more subtle and gentle. I immediately sense when it's turned off though. It works like a break on my SNS. Like it's calming the noise in the background. I'd get both, because tbh they actually DO something, while all these other headbands etc just measure. I didn't profit at all from Muse and the others because I know how to meditate anyway. I needed support in daily life while being active and not to calm down AFTER stress by training. I've stopped using all others, because they were more of a burden and zero help at all.

Lots of questions with subjects like white noise usage vs pink noise usage between devices, eating habits or foods, drinking (alcohol, soda pop, juices, coffee some of which can increase anxiety). It sounds like a dependency can develop in this clip. How does poor cholesterol levels, sleep apnea, tachycardia effect devices?

I ordered the Mendi. Heres hoping it helps me progress deeper into the jhanas, I've been having issues with either loosing awareness or getting distracted by thought. My technique is pretty solid, as I do get effects that tells me I'm making progress, however it'd be nice to get an extra edge. If the mendi doesn't work, I'll give the muse s a shot. Which would you say was more effective for getting into the jhanas, the muse or the mendi? And which one worked in solidifying meditative skill in the long term?
@ProTT_VR

muse can help a lot to check your overall state, how deep you go and how much you can still your mind when you record your raw brainwaves with mind monitor and then analyze the graph... mendi is a device which is supposed to help you concentrate better which then of course can help you meditate better, a thing which i wanna test out right now, that's why i am watching those videos to see how it works and if it has a live feedback coz i wanna use it while meditating and not those exercises with open eyes, so if that works i can use it in combination with the muse - mendi to try to enhance the ability to focus and then muse to check the overall state and progress

Ugh, maybe it's even in this video and I missed it, but I feel like I am listening to hours and hours of reviews and reading article after article to not get my questions answered. Basically, I'm trying to see if there is ANY product on the market that is somewhat accurate and user friendly that I can use to play MULTIPLE, INTERESTING GAMES and also where I can buy the games up front or get access to some free games to give me the incentive to play and help me have fun and not notice when I am training. If I get some horrible app that draws lines to tell me where I'm at, or even worse plays music or bird sounds or wind chimes I will probably throw the thing across my room in anger multiple times. I will not ever use it. Also, I plan to work OT to be able to afford this, so while I can do a one-time purchase I absolutely refuse to sign up for a subscription, plus I literally can't afford it and am splurging anyway. Can anyone answer these questions for me? Are there any fun games with a device that happens to be even a little bit accurate where I can buy the game one time and not have to pay for a costly subscription? Ok, if I have to pay $1 per month I might be able to swing that, but I absolutely will not pay more than $20 per year for a subscription.

Haven't noticed anything with the Mendi but the Muse S does help a little bit when it comes to concentration. I find the Muse S and Mendi to be lacking when compared to getting professional neurofeedback at a clinic. The difference between Muse S and going to a Neurofeedback clinic is night and day for me when i use the Muse S it only lasts a few hours but when i went to a clinic the "flow" focus feeling lasted a couple days which is much stronger than taking my ADHD medication Concerta/Vyvanse. I'm going to return the Mendi because i see no real benefit but the Muse S helps slightly. Unfortunately the clinic I go to isn't covered by my health insurance thus i can't afford the treatment sessions so i'm going to switch insurances to Blue Cross because a different neurofeedback clinic accepts that. Which brings me to my last thoughts on home neurofeedback vs clinician neurofeedback, professional neurofeedback will always be better because the sensors on the devices they use cover the whole brain not just a part of it like the Muse S/ Mendi but the treatment is very costly. Muse S only has 4 sensors but a Cap has 21 or more in comparison.

I'm looking to by myself a neurofeedback cap, amp, and software but i don't know where to start but i know that isn't cheap but beats the cost of going to a neurofeedback clinic can anyone give me recommendations? I already own the Muse S/Mendi and they aren't good enough because they don't have enough sensors and they neurofeedback that the Muse S uses isn't accurate enough even with the different soundscapes. Looking for software that has the traditional neurofeedback that makes the beeping noise not ocean waves ect.

I had me the mendi and i noticed that to get the ball moving out well you had the tense your forehead. It didn’t actually measure my focus, it was more of a measurement of blood flow of my forehead muscles. I would love to see someone control the ball well with a complete relaxed forehead. The idea sounds great but I honestly think they need to remove the noise of the forehead muscles

Muse has gone to a membership format. I was on their site a few days ago to buy a backup S Gen 2 headband-only (without a pod) and they are not listed in anymore. Fortunately, the Chat section gave me a link. I like to use my Muse S in unconventional ways. For example, I will turn negative feedback back off, or down very low. Sometimes, I turn the birds down or off and just check the graphs afterward. I don't get the stillness feature. I am always at 0% and I only make slight posture adjustments.

Doc I'm getting ready to do the Mendy and as long as I've been doing it I'm just wondering how do I know if it's working from my focus or my breathing technique I have to have a breathing technique cuz you got to keep the oxygen flowing to the brain does it matter if it's working it's working then that's all you need to know because I wonder if I'm manipulating it or is that fine too cuz it's all getting the same thing done sorry for the confusing question

Don't listen to him he promote Mendi because they pay him to do so. I already own the Mendi and am returning it because it has no real benefits but the Muse S works slightly although it's not very accurate neurofeedback in comparison to the traditional kind.

Well I'm sorry you're not able to tap into all those benefits of my son has been delivered from the two most common side effects of ADD that high pitch cackle laugh that's outside of the boundaries that nobody does but is a trait of certain things and then the intense forceful emotional anger he has been delivered from that that's those two brain waves that get tightened up first and so without him having to deal with just those two things he is thankful he calls me now I have never heard from my son unless I called him he is called his uncle which he is more aware surroundings he doesn't have any stuttering or double wording his thinking is very adult like now I can have a intelligent and long conversation with my son which before was not available to this extent

It is called training and I had to push my son every day for 30 days couple of days got missed but by the time he left me and went back to school he was a different man I've known about EEG for 12 years I believe I was being prepped to support my son just a few months ago and now it's done he still has his Mendy and people with brain issues need to do it their way and if they don't have the understanding it won't get done we know how that goes so I am believing for him to pick it back up on his own for him to do his own training for himself it's training don't think you'll be able to fully understand it cuz nobody does they just know it works and how it's supposed to work and that it does work I am a witness of myself my wife and my son what are your numbers like that'll tell you where you're at basically and then you build it from there it's not easy it's training

Thank you for sharing your story St. Clair Jones. That is amazing feedback about your son. Differences in your breath will not affect the Mendi signal too much. Your focus is a more important influence on the signal. Try breathing into a focus point, like the "third eye" center point in-between your eyebrows and try and feel "good" while doing it. I described this in more detail on my Mendi training tutorial video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvVoGWni7l1g7s

I agree the Muse app is quite complicated. The biofeedback is so cute and complicated, the “feedback” barely exists. A lot of trial and error to even understand what is feedback and what it means.

Just sit and follow your breath in and out of one nostril. Your mind wanders off then bring it back. This will improve your concentration with practice. Slow your breathing down to 6 or less breaths per minute. These videos are just paid advertisements. They are expensive wired contraptions and they want you to subscribe to them for a monthly fee. Meditation should be free as it always has been. Search KZbin and you will find a good video on how to.

So I wanna get a brainwave reading device that I can use during my esoteric meditation sessions just for curiosity sake. We use the imagination as a focus object. When we do breath focus we add white light being sucked into the body. We do "pathworking" such as imagining a tarot card as a curtain and walking thru it and exploring the landscape. We talk to God's, step into God's, etc can you make any recommendations?

Thank you for this great comparison video. I have a question I havnt been able to find the answer for - I can’t help but think how this drastically differs from playing video games, for example. Even say Chess, where intense focus is happening. Wouldn’t video games also train the brain in a similar sense, as the Muse etc. Seem to almost mimic a video game. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thank you!

Hey Dr Cody! Thanks so much for your incredibly detailed videos. They are a huge help but I was wondering if you could advise me on something very particular??? I suffer from partial complex seizures (form of epilepsy) from a sis in the front right of my brain. Because of this my mind is moving much faster than most people, leading to lack of concentration and then suffering from seizures (usually in my sleep) to almost restart and calm my brain down again. I’m really wondering if one of these headsets may be able to calm my brain down naturally and perhaps have an effect on my seizures. If so which one would you recommend would have the best effect? I just can’t decide but the Mendi frontal lobe focal pointers sound promising. Any advise or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

But I saw that with mendi you can get feedback in different ways. Sometimes I am focused in a way that feels not good but mendi does response. It is more like a fight or flight focus. I think the key with mendi is to get focused in a relaxed way that feels good.

Honestly I had Muse since day one it case one the original. And this device to this day I feel like it is way overpriced. Their integreation for the app is ridicoulse. At this time still they have no integration of using the I watch to corrdinate HRV readings, see your HR, RR, and SPO2. During medicaiton these data tha can be used to indicate level stress on top of you brainwave activity. Yet muse refuses to update the app and in connection with the watch.

Bluetooth hurts my brain along with wifi, phone signals etc. ESPECIALLY during meditation, so these headbands are silly. I cant even use a headtorch because the emf hurts my brain. I was hoping to create gamma brainwaves with a muse headset, which I thought the headset did..

I’ve used Muse on and off for years since they first came out and the one thing that frustrates me is getting in position correctly and I wish I could have the minutes back where I couldn’t. I couldn’t get a position I couldn’t get it. On the other hand, I thought it was tremendous and the old days they had a guy that created separate app so you could see your brain. Recently uses actually added that I think, I think I’m gonna try one more time by the newest new band because mine broke. I have PTSD acute insomnia. Brain inflammation from Running punched my head at Dr. Andrew Fagelman and so New York City. A hole always punched in my retina retina attached to the brain. No apologies just more Crimes, including by the NYPD, who apparently really like this doctor and his employee.

Mendi support absolutely sucks and so much so that I actually doubt they have any support staff at all. I've been waiting for over 10 days for a response from them.
