Another interesting video Olly. A nice tribute there to Sid Barrett. The amount of work in making that 'Gingerbread Pub' every year must be enormous. Happy New Year Will

Thanks, Will. I'd like to know the actual story behind the stile and why it's inscription is there in Somerset. Yes, I can't imagine how much work goes in to the decor - although some do much more to their own houses! It's a shame I didn't revisit in an evening as it is quite a sight with all the lights on. I'm having a quiet evening here, ready for a walk tomorrow. All the best to you and Happy New Year also.

@@WalksWithOlly It's already 2019 here! (Spain) Loads of fireworks going off. Maybe there's a local farmer who is a Pink Floyd fan? I was intrigued that the inscription had a Bass Cleff at the beginning - we'll probably never know! Lol. Cheers.

Great walk Olly. Funnily enough i was only talking about visiting places we haven't been to for ages & Ebbor gorge came up. Might visit there & Priddy tomorrow. 👍👍
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Martin. Ebbor Gorge is always worth a visit, in my opinion. If you do use the car park there though, be aware that it's now pay and display - up until a couple of years ago, it was free. But I hope you do get down there - I think the weather forecast is looking decent for tomorrow? All the best for 2019 and thanks for watching.

Thanks very much for watching and commenting, Gaz. It's an enjoyable walk that I repeat now and again. I haven't been out filming too much since, mainly because it's been nice to go out there without the added responsibility. But I aim to have more videos up soon. All the best.

Really interesting walk Olly; beautiful landscape, bit of everything there, history, forest, moorland, views and all punctuated by typical English villages; you got lucky with the weather this time after Dartmoor 😉; really enjoyed watching; all the best for the New Year and new job 👍
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Gill. Ah, yes, I actually filmed this a few days before heading to Dartmoor! As Alan said; decent weather for the time of year. I don't think I've seen as many dry or sunny days in December. Job has been going okay, thanks. Managed to complete three weeks of it before the Christmas break. Hope you have a great 2019, Gill. Thanks for watching and once again for your support this past year.

Olly, that was a lovely looking walk, from the open hill to the fantastic woods and Ebbor Gorge. Weather looked lovely, as you say a balmy late November. Loved all the information along the walk. The Gingerbread Inn was a bit of overload at the end ;-) Shine on you crazy diamond :-)
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much for watching, Gerry. I don't know about you just across the sea but ever since this day, it seems like we've seen cloud, more cloud and very little blue sky. It's only just turning cold again, which is something. Ah. the Gingerbread Inn seems to grow with popularity each year. It must be doing a lot for their business - I almost fear for the pub around the corner, which is set to re-open soon, having closed a few years ago. All the best to you and thanks for watching.

Best of luck for the new job Olly and a real nice walk to celebrate it as well - are you sure this was December! This was a real nice hike, great scenery and obviously the weather helps as well, especially at this time of year. Always nice to see a bit of Pink Floyd on the trail and something I listen too when I am out as well, very relaxing. Nice to hear of pubs reopping rather than closing, nothing better at the end of a hike that a pint next to a canny warm fire. The Gingerbread house/pub was brilliant and well worth seeing. I hope you have a great 2019 Olly, cheers Alan

Thanks, Alan. I managed three full weeks in the new job before Christmas. Still have a couple of days before I must return! Glad you enjoyed the video. I think this was late November - a bit chilly but I don't think we've seen as much sun through December. Haha, I'm glad you recognise the Pink Floyd reference (although, shouldn't it read 'shine on', not smile on?). Those two pubs are around the corner from each other and it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out. The Gingerbread Inn grows with popularity each Christmas - if there weren't so many people about, I'd take a look inside! Thank you, Alan. I also wish you very well going in to 2019. Rock on!

A superb walk Olly. Of course I am slightly biased on this one as I see you did include the walk I did a couple of years ago to Priddy Mineries and the Nine Barrows :) Nice to see you there. The route to Ebbor Gorge looked fab - I've not been there, but I think I know where that car park is where you mention about people not getting out of their cars. I remember that view myself as it's on the lane from Priddy to Wookey Hole, but I did actually get out of my car and spend a while there taking in the view the last time I was there! :) Good to see the New Inn reopening, I used to go there a lot during my summer evenings when living in south Bristol. Wow didn't the Queen Victoria look spectacular, very much like Santa's grotto! :) Nice shots of those squirrels up in the trees by the way. A great walk and beautifully captured, particularly liked your shots of the views towards Glastonbury, very misty and atmospheric. Nice one Olly, hope the new job is going well. Cheers, Patrick :)

Thank you, Patrick. I am pleased to know that you recognise portions of this walk and the local area. Also good to know that you sampled The New Inn before ahead of it's closure - I really am interested to see how it fares with the Queen Victoria just around the corner. Did you find any of the mine shafts on your walk around the Mineries? I am settling back in to the life of full-time employment and insufficient weekends, thanks. ;-) I hope all is well with you up there. Apparently another 'Beast From The East' is due now?! All the best.

No I never found the mine shafts Olly. Glad you're settling back into work, hope you enjoy it. All is well up here thanks, turning colder now, a few spots of snow, but nothing serious yet.Hopefully if we do get another Beast from the East this year it will be made up for with another fab summer like we had last year! :) All the best :)

A stunningly beautiful area, walk and video production Olly. I haven't visited the Mendips for many years but feel compelled to return thanks to you. You are so right about people turning up in such wonderful places and not leaving the confines of the car. Each to their own I suppose. Is the "new" job a different new job to the job you were starting a little while ago? Was that a Pink Floyd reference on the stile but saying "Smile on" rather than "Shine on"? Loved the barrows of Priddy and the Gingerbread Inn. Great to hear that the New Inn is to re-open. Happy New Year to you Olly. Paul 👍😊
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Paul. You should definitely revisit the Mendips as much as I should explore more of Herefordshire! So, I'm back in full-time employment where I was practically self-employed from September. Stability is the aim right now. I managed to work three weeks before Christmas and return to it tomorrow. Yes, indeed, I believe it is a Pink Floyd reference. I'm glad you also spotted the error as very few seem to comment on that. I'd love to know the actual story here and whether that mistake was intentional and why. Happy New Year to you, Paul and thanks for watching.

@@WalksWithOlly Always a pleasure Olly. I hope that work is going well for you. Pink Floyd reference or not it is a nice thing to see and read on that stile. Herefordshire awaits 👍😊

Proving once again I have only scraped the surface of the Mendips, the Ebbor gorge looks interesting I must give that a look sometime. The monarchs way.....did you mean Roundheads rather than Romans? I got intrigued by that seems it was Charles I after the Battle of Worcester. Great walking along virtually with you Olly, good luck in the new job, and have a great 2019.
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Simon. Both Priddy and Ebbor Gorge are worth exploring. Open land, mineries, drystone walls and a gorge/nature reserve. Ha, it definitely wasn't the Romans after all! ;-) You're dead right about the king. No idea who/what I was thinking of... Thanks, I've already survived three weeks in the job and have enjoyed a long Christmas break. All the best to you also.

Our lovely mendips! Like the shot of the squirrels. What was the cave you mentioned at 14:36?
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, Shirley. I wasn't expecting to see those squirrels and when I noticed them it actually interrupted something else I was trying to film. I think I was referring to Swildon's Hole, which is more of a pothole than a cave, as you drop down in to it and then, I believe, crawl (or swim!) through the sumps. It's on the Ordnance Survey map near Priddy but tricky to find as there are no paths leading to it. I hope that makes sense. All the best and Happy New Year.

Do you know what Olly there are people who go to visually pleasing places take photos from out of the car or from the car and then present them as if in some remote spot. They pass to. I guess people can create illusions ultimately cheating themselves though. No cheating here though. Another pleasant walk. The winds were still and all was pleasant. All the best. Mark
@WalksWithOlly6 жыл бұрын
I'm not at all surprised to hear it, Mark. We all lead busy lives, right but I'm also certain that we can spare a few minutes more than we realise, especially to stop, step outside and experience some of what we're witnessing. Then again, perhaps this identifies the kind of people we'd rather not encounter on a mountain summit...? Thank you, Mark. This was a pleasant but chilly day for late November. I don't remember seeing as much sunshine through December but the days will slowly grow longer from here on. All the very best to you, Mark.
