Tamiya is being surpassed in both affordability and quality. They are going to have to up their game to remain relevant.

Not only that there are now companies including a Russian company called Temp Model which are now using a lot of 3D printed parts which mean 100% accuracy and 100% exact fit of parts no more mold parts greater range and cheaper

The Type 82 chassis is basically an early VW beetle (with improved ground clearance), so no transmission tunnel. It's rear wheel drive, rear engine.
@wwiiinplastic4712
@wwiiinplastic4712 6 күн бұрын
The tunnel he is referring to houses the heater channel but also the shift connections from the driver's position to the transmission unit in back. So no transaxle; just linkage.

I've purchase the Meng kubelwagon version for north africa or Sicily/Italian thearters, but not their European or the lastest armored Version. Yet that is. I actually have quite a collection of kubelwagons from Tamiya, Dragon, etc, and Beligo. which i believe dragon copied or bought the rights and molds too. Which is a great little kit and very well detailed. Thanks for the video.

These are gorgeous kits, excellent in detail, cheap price and... if you find the time, can be built in a weekend! The two tone braun Afrika Korps version is 💋 Nice job Takom 👏 👍

Thanks Andy. Good kits of a popular subject. I have the North Africa kit and it looks very nice. Meng have a Type 82/3 decoy/training vehicle coming as well. Costs a couple of $ more than Tamiya's Kubelwagens over here but still reasonable. For a bit of fun, check out the instructions for Tamiya's first Kubelwagen (1970) on Scalemates. We are very lucky modellers now days. Cheers 🦘🦘🦘

1. They look like great kits, especially for the price! My only grumpy gripe would be the molded-on door handles. They remind me of Tamyia's disappointing 'old school' molding standards. 2. IMHO, there's a need for more up-to-date Kubelwagon kits in 1/16 scale, so if Takom could upscale the CAD designs for these two kit, that would be awesome! (hint, hint! lol) 3. Perhaps "U.S.A. Arizona" was the captor's choice because they wanted to honour those who went down with the U.S.N. Arizona during the attack on Pear Harbour?

I already have built the trusty old Tamiya and have several of the Dragon variants like the ambulance and radio car, but I have the Tamiya repair set and at these prices I can finally make an engine repair diorama or the variants not covered by Dragon. A couple of gripes regarding molded-on door handle and no option on top up/down but otherwise an alternative to the old Tamiya, the still pricey Dragons, and the meh Hero kits.

@wwiiinplastic4712
@wwiiinplastic4712 6 күн бұрын
@@michaelgallasch6472 The seating is such that it gives the impression of sitting in a bucket. That is, it grabs your bottom and helps hold you in place going around corners and such. At the time, many cars had flat bench seats in front that were not individually adjustable. If the driver needed to be closer then the passenger to his right got to be closer too.
@michaelgallasch6472

@@wwiiinplastic4712 but, the "Kübel" got flat seats ;) But your explanation is correct. The director of the German Tank Museum once made a video on the subject, but I think only in German. In short: why is the Kübel (short for Kübelwagen) a Kübel without Kübels inside

Some detail looks nice, some other not so much. The rifles are crude (trigger guard area, and could not see the bolt from both sides), and molded on door handles make the build easier, but are not what I would count as an improvement over older kits. Vinyl tires are not my favorites either. Mixed bag, from what I could see.

True! Given that everything is design using CAD, it wouldn't take a lot of time to scale a 1/35 design up to 1/16, add more detail, and perhaps break the vehicle into more parts & assembly steps.

Frustrating separation of parts, only offering one top (up or down) option in each kit. And vinyl tires? Put both top and wheel options in one box, charge $30-35 and it would be a different conversation. Overall a lack-luster release that doesn’t substantially improve the Tamiya kits other than price, IMO. (Especially when you can pick up Tamiya Kubels at just about any swap meet or contest vendor table for $15)

Hopefully no retailers & none of the companies in China (..all of which have really hit their stride & begun to produce excellent products..), will end up going out of business. Fingers crossed!

True. While Tamiya's latest kits (e.g. Comet & Hellcat..) are have much improved detail over Tamiya's older kits, and they're still more straightforward to build than most other manufacturers, the truth is that Miniart, plus Chinese companies like Takom, Meng, RFM, Border, etc., are producing kits with far superior detail & they have nearly caught up in terms of engineering & instructions. Furthermore, Tamiya no longer sells kits for a lot less than its competitors.
