Hi Great video! I Hope all well with your knee still 🤞 I hurt my right knee back in 2010 & seen an Orthopedic surgeon who said I will need a knee replacement when older ( I was 40 at the time ) So I had a Arthroscopy 6?weeks later as I’d torn my medial & Lateral meniscus , all though I had a lot of relief, i then again had trouble 2012 so a few months later again I had 2nd arthroscopy , waking in recovery I was in 12/10 pain!!! They had done a biopsy as the found a growth which turned out to be a baker cyst! The cyst has given me some grief on & off the last 8years , had X-ray 6 yrs back and told all seemed ok! I have now really bad pain in all the old areas , had X-ray & ultrasound on knee told no Baker cyst, have mri today , wondering watching your story here I may need the meniscus replacement! As I am now 50 I’m hoping I stilll don’t need the knee replacement yet Look forward to your reply ...or anyone who’s had same problem 😊

Hello, Bronwyn. Sorry to hear of your injury & surgery struggles. We are happy to assist however we can. With your longer, complex injury history, we can't offer any generic advice via social media. It is probably best for you to have a full consultation where Dr. Stone can review your medical imaging and learn more about your injury history and post-op goals. IT's complimentary and you can arrange for one by following the instructions on this page www.stoneclinic.com/consult. Also, in the meantime, I would highly recommend downloading our Saving My Knee guide. This will give you a comprehensive overview of the BioKnee procedure and give you a better idea if you are a good candidate. You may download it here www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-knees

@stoneclinic4 жыл бұрын
@@rezasaba1602 See the other reply on this topic. We hope to see broader adoption of meniscus transplantation, particularly in young people as the meniscus repairs performed now lead them down the path of arthritis. As mentioned, meniscus transplantation requires a very talented surgeon and a customized physical therapy program in order to be successful. But hopefully, with time and the research conducted by the Stone Research Foundation, we can help expand the use of this procedure to save knees from unnecessary implants and tissue removal.

I just came upon this post about Meniscus ,In the past 9 month I have been to 4 Orthopedic surgeons in NJ and NYC, two of them at HSS and Rothman Institute which has over 100 Orthopedic surgeons who have emphatically told me there is NO Meniscus Bio or artificial only option is Total Knee replacement . My right knee is not in That bad of condition, Yes the medial meniscus is not repairable and i have some arthritis on the inner part of the bone surface . They all told me I have to do Total or partial Knee replacement . after some research i decided to do the 3 stage Jell shot Orthovisc . which with some hesitation the DR told me he would do it . Am at Loss? are NY and NJ located in a different planet

Reza, meniscus transplantation has yet to be adopted broadly. So this is not surprising. Most surgeons haven't been trained on this procedure or do not work in the right type of medical system environment to provide the quality of physical therapy required to achieve a successful outcome with this procedure. If you would like to learn more about this surgical program and our approach to achieving minimally-invasive, long-term outcomes you can download our Saving My Knee Guide here www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-knees

Did you get the artificial meniscus? The polyurethane meniscus? I heard it should be approved early 2021
@stoneclinic3 жыл бұрын
No. The meniscus replacement is real, human, biological tissue taken from an organ donor's cadaver. Whenever possible Dr. Stone prefers to use the biological replacement of tissues rather than using metals or plastics. These will give the surgical patient a more natural feel and range of motion. More information on the meniscus replacement process may be found here www.stoneclinic.com/bioknee

Hello, Anthony. Sorry for the late reply. Looks like we missed your comment earlier, but wanted to share a link to an overview of how we perform Meniscus Transplants at The Stone Clinic. This will give insight into how & why this procedure is effective in bringing people with arthritis back to full activities. www.stoneclinic.com/meniscus-transplant-center. Also, if you are looking for a local surgeon to perform this procedure, please be sure to understand their experience with this procedure. Dr. Stone has performed over 400 over his career and leads an international research group dedicated to just this specific procedure. Experience with meniscus transplantation is not that common and your surgeon's experience with this operation combined with a robust physical therapy program will be crucial to the treatment's success.

I injured my mensicus 3 times playing basketball, and it really does suck not being able to play the sport. Most likely he wont be able to resume any contact sport, especially basketball, after a meniscus transplant, as the knee would never be the same as before. Deciding to play basketball after such a surgery would further increase the risk of yet another knee injury. I know it sucks, but thats life.

Is there an age barrier? I am 65
@stoneclinic4 жыл бұрын
Hello, David. Thanks so much for reaching out. That question is best left for Dr. Stone as each individual and every injury are different. So, we don't have cookie-cutter answers or treatment programs. There are # of factors, including age, that determine what treatment path Dr. Stone recommends to each patient. Below are the typical symptoms for good candidates for a BioKnee/Meniscus Transplant (more info can be found here www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-knees): "A common scenario for our patients is that they injured their knee playing high school or college sports, had some tissues taken out or a ligament reconstructed, and then over the years developed progressive knee pain. Their symptoms are often intermittent pain, swelling, giving way or buckling, achiness after walking, and sometimes limitation of knee range of motion. X-rays and MRI’s are particularly helpful to determine whether or not the damage inside the knee is in one portion of the knee or extensive throughout the knee. BioKnee procedures such as cartilage replacements can often be performed as long as there is space available, meaning that the joint is not completely bone-on-bone. Patients who are candidates for a BioKnee often have symptoms associated with pain isolated primarily to one side of the joint and do not have underlying inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis which differs from injury-caused post-traumatic or osteoarthritis. Ideally, their range of motion is not too severely limited and their legs are not too badly bowed inside or curved outside (i.e. less than 10 degrees of angulation)."
