Not directly related to this video but I thought I saw a few other video's on this channel regarding hip replacement. Does anyone know of anyone personally who has successfully went back to training Martial Arts (like specifically Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu) after a total hip replacement? Of course, I know that there would be a period of recovery and rehab first but I'm curious because I'm likely going to have, to have one of my hip's replaced but would still like to return to Muay Thai and possibly Jiu Jitsu afterwards. Again, of course, after recovery etc. listening to my body, etc. Any thoughts or shared experience would be greatly appreciated. I currently can't really train or not "fully" because my hip is such a painful mess.

After finding out from having an MRI, I went to an orthopedic doctor and they gave me a cortisone shot because I was in so much pain along with inflammation. It's amazing that ultra high quality content like this is available for free (or the price of having to sitting through a crap advert or two!!) I damaged my lateral meniscus about 1983 squatting with the British middleweight bodybuilding champ (didn't warm up properly, thanks Martin!!) It got worse a couple of years ago as I approached my 60's so I started training my legs again using a fair few of the exercise shown here. I can't yet do a parallel squat but I'm only about 3 inches away with 120kg front squats. Not sure if I'll get there but even if I don't it's good to be feeling stronger again and reassuring to know that I might be doing the best I can for the knee! Thank you!

I tore the meniscus in both knees. Had surgery on my right knee where the surgeon trimmed the cartilage. The other knee hurt just as bad but I got an inversion table for my lower back. I started hanging from the inversion table and I mean completely hanging upside down for 20 minutes straight each time. The pain from the knee without surgery quickly went away and the knee went back to feeling normal and pain free. Wish I had that inversion table before ever getting surgery on my right knee because it probably would have healed that knee also. I imagine that it takes the pressure off the cartilage and allows blood to heal the cartilage. By the way, this all transpired over 20 years ago and my knees feel great and I am 66 years old now. I use the inversion table at least once per week religiously. I have not shrunk in height either.

Great video 👍🏽. When I was 15 years old, I tore my right knee medial meniscus . It took me 3 years to heal 100% . Unfortunately at 46 y/o my left knee lateral meniscus tear would have not healed with out surgery. So I had a partial lateral meniscectomy. By day 2 , I began the range of motion and progressed when I did not feel any pain . By week 4 , I was doing my yoga routine and hitting the gym like if nothing had happened.. I highly recommend this video for everyone that has knee pain . Or may need knee surgery .

I also really appreciate you adding the research in the intro, particularly Cochrane reviews which most will consider very reliable sources for lit reviews and comprehensive metanalysis. You are also very athletic which really helps you demonstrate movements better than any PT I have seen in person. I paid almost 1000 dollars for a so called "Physical Therapy" 3 times to be seated is a bycicle for 10 min. And the rest for the therapist to slide a foam stick on my lateral knee and looking at the computer. 200 each visit then a bill of 900. I was skeptical to go first because I know doctors now are more money seekers then caring for their patients. Specially if no insurance. But I went because I was unsure if the exercises I was doing were wrong. But my disappointment was that they spent tons of years is universities and practices and they don't do as they charge. I regret wasting my hard earned money for nothing. I'm greatful for youtube to put this on my news feed. I was right, this video just prove that. I will be back to this and hopefully my legs and knees get stronger. Next time I will not doubt myself again. Thanks!

Dealing with left knee meniscus repair and right knee meniscus tears, cyst and lateral patella tilt. Haven’t been able to do the things I want like hiking or power lifting because it just aggravates the knee. I do a lot of isometrics squats & lunges, sled push/pulls and steps ups/downs and heel raises. Will be adding some of these exercises to the routine! Thank you 😊

@@ratneshsrivastava5174 hiii L knee meniscus repair was back in 2012. Had a really tough time with rehab and lost abt 5 degrees of active range of motion in flexion and knee extension is at 0 degrees. Depending on the type of surgery you have, rehab process will be different. With meniscus repair, I was no weight bearing for like a month. Currently, slowly adding barbell squats and not experiencing pain in both knees.

Hi, This is a great video. I'm 40 and had have had kneed pain for the past 5 months. I just had a MRI last week and the report says I have a meniscus tear. My doctor recommended surgery but two physio's said no and now I've found this video. I'll definitely do stretches and strengthening instead.

This is great info but for my experience surgery has been a good option. At the moment I will soon be getting another meniscus surgery but on my left knee. My first one is my right knee but let me get to my proof. My right knee being the one with the first one with surgery was my strongest and more stable and this is before I got into fitness and learned about stability and mobility. Now recently with my injury I been doing light work and rehab exercises for my left knee and it has not done nothing u continue to have the pain even though it’s a minor tear. So don’t be afraid of surgery it will make a change you guys. Hope yall have a great recovery 👍🏾💪🏾😊

I had a meniscus tear while kickboxing 5 months ago and didn’t really know it was a tear just had some swelling around the knee and lost a little range of motion. Rested up for a month and got back to training felt good but had problems pivoting and last few degrees of knee flexion was painful so didn’t do that 3-4 months worked on some strength exercises like backward sled, flossing, pollaquin stepup and finally had full range of motion but lacked single leg strength so got an MRI almost 4.5 months after initial injury and finally got to know that its a meniscus tear grade 3 and the doctor really didn’t care about any of my concerns just told me rest up for a year maybe do an Mri later in 6 months and told me surgery isn’t necessary since i don’t have issues in day to day life or need any painkillers . So after this i have been not doing any aggravating physical activity maybe some light stretches and stuff like that and stopped all kind of exercises now about 3 weeks in i feel more weakness in that knee and feel uncomfortable in full ROM no idea what to do in this situation feels like shit tbh just sitting at home doing nothing

Hey man, I get you. I'm a wrestler, sucks being away from training. In the meanwhile just attend to the stuff which you couldn't during training or being in camp. In the world of martial arts it's the journey and those few months out due to whatever reason it's part of it

WOW bro I have the same thing! It happened to me in kickboxing training also but all the doctors said it was nothing and for two years the pain in the knee came and left in different grades. Two months ago it was so painful I couldn't move my knee at all I went to an MRI and I have tears in the medial and lateral minscus and a full ACL tear. The doctor didn't recommend surgery cause he said it will come around when I get older. So i rest a lo, do knee raises (like the doctor told me) and do exercises I saw on KZbin. And I do train upper body, abs, and neck. Just after I was told I had tears I managed to do muscle ups (since I focus on upper body) and I swim also. The point is don't lose hope man do what you can there are bad days and there are worst days but at the end of the day the good days will come but it takes time.

Appreciate how all-in this guide is! In 40's and rather loose joints (collagen quality due genetics), waiting for partial meniscectomy agreed on at a prestigious ortho hospital in the UK. Where worked previously at Histopathology, so seen many knee (and other) bones and meniscus etc. Probably coming up close and personal with our bits and pieces🙃 puts them in perspective. I'm all for exercise as a game changer but also see there cases where surgery is rather essential, even for meniscal tears, of which there different types (and extent of tear) and assuming otherwise can be harmful especially long term. Had partial meniscectomy on my other knee in 20's and no problems since, but the past few months the imbalance in my now injured knee sometimes upsets my fixed knee. Can't help a little change in gait due instable bad knee I can feel at most steps. Strong legs but strengthening them further now💪 Not ideal how long the wait for surgery, will a year from injury, when clearly not improving beyond a point and even causing more damage. So if you're in the same shoes please have an MRI and consultation, might save from more complex surgery than an arthroplasty.

Really hope to strengthen the muscles and make it comfortable to be using it as before. Thank you!

This is extremely helpful. I have spent a whole day crying because I was afraid I would not be able to run again and do my favourite sports, afraid that I might end up having to have another operation, premature OA, and afraid of an early knee replacement. I had an ACL reconstruction + partial medial meniscectomy 13 years ago, aged16. Rehabbed but never re-gained full muscle mass and strength... was able to go back to running and exercising freely for the first 9 years post-op. in the next 3-4 I gained 20+ kgs( about 5 kg per year) and was not able to run anymore due to synovitis, and pain after each high impact...and started physio, a programme involving some common exercises with this one, once a week in the physio gym and at home as well, supposedly daily. I was not doing it daily unfortunately... the other day did a wrong move and heard a click, and ran after a train for a few 100s m, knee started clicking with every flexion-extension with a strikingly painful moment in the medial meniscus area. I have full motion although it is sore at the back of the knee and there is a painful click every time I stand and sit down. I was seen by my doc and they said that they could do a tidy up surgery but they recommend I do physio, lose weight, cycling, swimming, recommendations that I am very much aware of. So did RICE + anti inflammatory local gel applications and 200-500m walks every few hours for the past 2 days. I am tempted to get on the mat and do these exercises, the lighter beginner version. Do you recommend a few more days of rest before getting back to physio 2x a day, or should I just crack on with the exercises and never stop?

I'm not medically qualified, but from what I've seen on this and other videos, I would start with the range of motion exercises in this video until you're pain-free. You're teaching your knee it's okay to move back and forward, but only as far as you start to feel the discomfort. As pain disappears, gradually introduce the strengthening exercises. That said, some of the strengthening exercises, specifically the calf muscle exercises using a straight leg, can absolutely be started immediately because you won't be putting your knee joint through any stress doing that (just your calf muscles) as the knee stays static. Good luck!

I broke my medial meniscus in August and played soccer on it for 4 months, in the while I was doing all o this excercises with my team pt, unfortunately after 6 month I was still feeling a great pain inside my knee. Once i finished the season with my team I did an MRI and it showed my meniscus was broken. I spoke with a surgeon and he said that the best outcome will be if he can reattach it to the knee. This will take longer but on the long term is better instead of remove it. yesterday after 110 days I started running again and i can say it was a struggle, choose wiseley on what to do
