I do not believe Dr. Taylor is insinuating that ALL menopausal women have alcohol, relationship or work related issues. She is only trying to let women know the things that can be an issue at menopause. If you are a woman that is struggling with any of these issues it might be comforting to know you’re not alone and have the reasons explained to you as to why you might be having them. She has also put a lot of time and wisdom into giving us ways to manage our menopause in a way that we are willing and comfortable in doing. If you’ve not experienced these things and your transition has been a smoother one, be thankful! Coming from someone who has not had an easy transition physically or emotionally, I’m happy to know it’s not just me, I haven’t just walked off a cliff, there’s a medical reason I’m going through this. Thank you Dr. Taylor(: I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 32 years now ( I will say he has taken the initiative to research and learn about menopause, he has even watched your videos with me, he’s been very understanding) I don’t drink alcohol, I do take estradiol 1.5 mg and vitamins, made dietary changes and I have still had a really rough transition. The changes in mood, lack of energy & motivation, joint aches, weight gain, I have experienced them all. I have found much comfort in talking with other women and in watching your videos, it dispels the feelings of isolation and gives me things to try that could possibly help! If you really want to make things easy for yourself, get the whole education. Then things will really make sense. There are a variety of ways you can do so: (1) Start with the very first video and watch them all in order. That little number after each title tells you the order. (2) Get my book from MenopauseTaylor.ME and read it in chronological order (3) Get the webinars at MenopauseTaylor.ME and watch each chapter in order (4) Schedule a one-on-one consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME to get the education AND have it tailored specifically to YOU Whatever you do, do not jump around & watch my videos out of order. That's like shooting yourself in the foot (or the head). Here’s why: I’m an anal, neurotic, pedantic, perfectionistic surgeon. I put great time and energy into making sure I publish my videos in just the right order so that they are the most beneficial for you. There is absolutely nothing willy-nilly about the order. I guess you could say that my menopause series as akin to “Menopause University.” I start with Video #1, assuming you know absolutely nothing. And I do not mean that as an insult. One of my undergraduate majors at Rice University was psychology. I just love the stuff. I am planning to do a PhD in clinical psychology. I love school, and can't seem to stay away from it. But, right now, I'm enjoying teaching as much as learning. And since this is my first attempt at teaching, it's more time-consuming than studenthood. I try to be in school at all times. Currently, my only school is French language school. I definitely have your back. And I believe that the more you learn, the more you realize how little you know.

ONE of your undergraduate majors?! What was the other one? Can I ask you how you made the time to get your various degrees? Why, you were working full time, or even more, with a busy practice. I'm scratching my head wondering where you found time in your day. Did you go to school part time? For how many years? I went back to school 2years ago with my daughter in law to get a certificate in nutritional counseling. It wasn't in my mother tongue, so that added to the challenge. But that was just a certificate, not a degree. I feel technologically challenged and would be intimidated to try another degree in university, I'm sure you need to be savvy with computers.

But, while practicing full time, I went to school part-time from 1995 - 1997 to get my MBA. And then, before the MBA ended, I started law school part time and did that from 1997 - 2001 while I practiced Ob/Gyn full time. I'm a nerd.

@@cassandra79727 I was never a big drinker to being with, it was more of a challenge that I wanted to peruse. But I do see the effects alcohol has on my friends, takes much longer to get over hangovers . As for losing weight, I'm having success with OMAD (one meal a day), lowering my carb intake. More veggies, avocado, fatty fish and no sugar (bread, pasta, rice). I also notice my mind is clearer and I can articulate clearer.

😟 The menopause has been brutal. No hot flashes but the weight gain, swelling, inflammation all over. One day I was looking at my self on the mirror and I couldn’t recognize me. I don’t and I can’t muster the same energy and emotions like before. I thought I got bitter by all the hardships and struggles in my life. thank Dr you explained that the crash and lack of hormones is the culprit. I started some pills while I wait for a HTR appointment. I feel the difference. ❤

Well, my mind is made up. When I start peri menopause I will definitely start estrogen. I don’t want osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, or heart problems. Not to mention, I want my vagina and my bladder to be healthy.

Yes, do it. I certainly would have if I had known to do it. I’m 2 or 3 years menopausal and just suddenly having burning when I shower just from water down my backside. Went to gyno 4 months ago. She says it looks dry and use Replens moisturizer. Then after 2 UTIs treated at urgent care they say I have a history of atrophic vaginitis. That history is from 4 months ago at the GYN!! That biotch didn’t even tell me! The nerve to suggest that Replens moisturizer was going to help at all! I’m getting on transdermal HRT estrogen and a oral progesterone as fast as I can. I suspect that I will have to fight for it or find an educated GYN and pay out of pocket. I’m in the county health plan. Lots of slacking doctors but a few very good ones in specialty medicine.

I went to 3 obgyn's including one from the NAMS website before finding one that wrote me a prescription for HRT. I've been on it since January. It's great to be able to sleep and work without those hot flashes.

I have severe dry eye, currently not taking HRT but strongly considering it. Ophthalmologist suggests meeting with endocrinologist to determine appropriate estrogen level as to not exacerbate my dry eyes. I’ve not heard you address dry eye as a result of menopause and would love to hear your thoughts on this.

It's a bummer that women mostly aren't getting proper care, I have my appointment with a doctor i found on north American menopause society's list coming up very soon and I want estrogen yesterday lol! My main symptoms are joint pain and anxiety with a good dose of forgetfulness and impatience with intolerance

Dr Taylor, I read and have been told conflicting things, what do you advise for me still having a regular cycle altho the start date shifts whereas before it was very static, I am almost 49, I see 2 stories, some docs say no hrt with a regular cycle that waiting until 12 months with no period, other docs say its okay with a still regular cycling period to take hrt.

You can do it either way. It's YOUR choice, nobody else's! If you start HRT now, you'll avoid the rollercoaster of symptoms. If you wait, you'll get to experience them.

I thought that was an old way of thinking and if no medical issues the risk of long term HRT was very minimal. Once a woman can get HRT, is the new "battle" getting to keep it for longer then 5 years?

I can tell by your question that you might not have watched all my videos in order. There has never been a limit on how long you can take estrogen. There's just fear, all of which emanated from the WHI study in 2002. If you were diabetic, would you stop taking your insulin after 5 years? What about hypothyroidism. Would you take thyroid hormone for only 5 years? So, there is a difference in a "time limit" (or duration) for taking HRT and a "time frame" during which you can still START taking HRT. But once you start taking HRT, you can continue it as long as you find right FOR YOU. Many a woman has said, "They'll have to pry it fro my cold, dead hands!" The Estrogen Window refers to the first 5 - 10 years of your post-menopause as the time when you can still START taking HRT (Videos 80 - 83, & 87). If you are within those first 5 - 10 years, you can START taking HRT. If you start taking HRT in the first 5 - 10 years of your post-menopause, it will decrease or prevent heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's Disease. The "5 - 10 years" is very misunderstood. What it means is that this is when you can still START taking HRT. It has nothing to do with how long you can take HRT (Video 88). However, many practitioners misinterpret it as a time limit. It isn't. How long you take HRT is an entirely personal and individual matter too each woman (videos 88 & 89). To gain the long-term benefits of preventing heart attack, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s, there are certain requirements: (1) The estrogen has to be one that travels throughout your entire body. If it is designed to only treat vaginal dryness, you will not get any of these benefits. (Video 84) (2) The estrogen must be at least a certain dosage (Video 85)

@@shannonlynnmomof3 I think you meant a 5 years limit on what your available doctor will prescribe. Is that right? I am on Medicare through the county health plan. Doctors are limited, and many are like a bump on a log. Also what they can prescribe that is covered by insurance is limited. I am very anxious to see what they say and I absolutely anticipate a debate. The first GYN I saw suggested Replens moisturizer cream from the drug store and also did not bother to tell me that she diagnosed me with atrophic vaginitis. I am livid. If I had money I would go directly to an excellent GYN and buy the prescription that I want.

This is extremely helpful; especially the part about the oxytocin related changes. It explains my situation on those changes to a T. I wish others understood. No one else in your life realizes and understands. As a result, lots of conflict is produced and everyone thinks you're the problem and that if they just yell at you enough you'll be different. Also, while that hormonal change has actually occurred, so it's not excuse making, most think you're just being selfish, ridiculous or manipulative. That's the really difficult part. I admit, though, I didn't know about, let alone understand myself until going through it. Trying to explain it to one's family members and get them to grasp it seems impossible. Any suggestions?

Hi Doctor, there are also the parts that get much softer..muscle mass...yes the weight I am not so sure because I've lost weight but looks different and not better ...not so much on the stomach ...but the butt ...it's like it's melting away !!! flat awful ...we loose muscle mass .....I wish you could in a video because there's no way I am going to accept this as "inevitable" ...how do we strengthen our core , our butt ( lift it !! because , is it only exercise? or do we need to get maca , can estrogens protect the shape of our body parts that matter ? ) a video about how to get back core strength and butt..it's like it used to be an apple and now it 's just flat ....I look so much younger than my age but this is depressing me and affects my private life ..and as you said same for the workplace as I need to look for one and if they have any doubt about your age ....this is so UNFAIR..it is as if women get "obsolete" pas a certain time ! XXI century ..they talk about stem cells etc...eternal life but everyday life screams at you " you're no longer of interest "....it may seem like a superficial complaint but feeling good about oneself is important for the psyche and self confidence..plus this kind of "limitation" ..I scream silently ..nothing prepares you for this .Thank you being such a unique voice about this tabou topic

I look forward to a more positive outlook especially for those of us way past the estrogen window. As someone who didn't have hot flashes I welcomed the parting of my moon cycle. No need for HRT years ago. However osteoporosis, bigger middle and a few other things aren't so welcome. What now??

I've been watching your videos since last year and they're awesome. But I'm getting a bit angry now...at my friends who tell me to eat more red meat and drink bone broth now and my doctor who prefers I stick with Remifemin instead of hrt. I've not yet moved into menopause (i'm 52) but the pushback I'm already getting is frustrating. Your WHAM series is great. Nobody talks about these things. Keep giving me the facts. I'm getting nervous about what's coming but at least I'll be able to advocate for myself.

May I ask a slightly off topic question please? Or maybe it is on topic. 😬. HRT over a year now, oral and vag cream. Never any relief from vaginal pains (external and internal). Drs can’t “see” anything wrong. Sprung for thevMona Lisa Laser treatments, no relief. The most annoying issue on the daily is constant clitoral irritation, despite adding est cream externally as well as internally. After a hard look with magnifying super lighted mirror, it seems like a constant abrasion on the Clitoris itself (and certainly feels that way). Have changed soaps/detergents/ clothing (and non clothing at home! ) nothing helps. Because of the irritation factor it’s making difficult to stay active and “alive”. I assume it’s a skin retraction issue, but having exhausted options I can think of, is it possible some kind of surgery would help? I rack my brain trying to think of some method to cushion and protect it, while not irritating it further. (I’ve treated for yeast and Bacteria alternately.). Could there possibly be any hope for this?

There is definitely hope and your doctors are definitely missing something. Go to your gynecologist and request a biopsy of the area. You need a diagnosis for this. (Sooo...hard to get proactive medical care on an island). I ordered ph testing strips last night and pre/probiotics....perchance could that help? I don’t recall right now the PH level number it “should be”.

I haven't gotten to the subject of hot flashes yet, Kimberly ... intentionally. While everyone talks about them they are not the most bothersome symptom of menopause. (That would be vaginal dryness.) And, more importantly, the focus should be on heart attacks, not hot flashes. A hot flash never killed anyone. A heart attack has and does. 1 out of eery 2 post-menopausal women to be exact. So, I'll definitely get to them. Love your videos thank you so much for all your hard work... I am at a complete standstill right now my last. Period a year-and-a-half ago I started gaining weight a year or so before that and since my. Stopped I have gained even more and the crazy thing was the hair loss I experienced in perimenopause stopped and over the last year my hair has been growing like crazy it's actually sick run longer than it's ever been my abdomen and my breasts have grown tremendously and I have gained a total of 35 lb in the last year I have no trouble sleeping but I do have a lack of energy no hot flashes really to speak off I have tried estrogen but it makes me tired I'm speaking of bioidentical estrogen cream since I'm so overweight could I possibly have estrogen dominance? I'm just wondering because of the situation with my hair growth and also my skin is looking better than it ever has I'm scared of continuing the estrogen because of the severe fatigue that it brings on and the weight gain I'm so confused if anybody has an input I'd love to hear it

If more than 10 years have transpired sine (1) Your body stopped producing estrogen, or (2) You had your very last period, or (3) You stopped taking some form of estrogen, then you are outside your estrogen window of opportunity, and the risks of taking HRT may outweigh the benefits of taking HRT. It's all about timing. And that's because timing is what causes aging. If enough time has transpired without estrogen to allow the aging processes to in your heart, bones, and brain, it can be risky to introduce estrogen. But as long as you have staved off aging by having estrogen on board, it's beneficial to take estrogen.

Hugging, petting, brushing snuggling with my animals is the same as always. 😍 I’m not in a relationship or around babies but I’m sure it would be the same. Maybe women who had, to put it mildly, selfless boundaries suffer more from oxytocin fluctuations and loss. I’ve always been steady and have had keen self awareness of my boundaries and needs. 🤔 never got married either 😁

Pooja Suri it is not a complete truth. There is other side of the story. I know a lot of women menopausal and post menopausal age. All have a job and very successful in what they do. My Mom is 76 still working and happy the way she is, never took HRT. None of them have an alcohol addiction and all of them are very optimistic people.

Hi Dr.! I am 57 and have been on an estrogen patch for about 8 months. I was still having my period when I began. Now I’m wondering if I waited too long because it seems I’m having circulation issues that I’ve never had. I feel tingling in my feet and hands. Can this be caused by the estrogen? I am NOT over weight. I don’t have high BP or sugar. And I’ve been exercising consistently for the past 9 years. I workout about 5 times a week. So, now I’m concerned about this issue. Dr. Taylor, I do enjoy your very informative videos. I'm 66 yrs. old, have never experienced any hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, don't drink alcohol ( rarely), or coffee, by choice. I have relatively a good diet, walk everywhere, have a good social circle, and do a lot of volunteering. I garden and work in my yard, so I do get exercise. Have had bone density tests, mammograms, blood tests, stool tests, everything is normal. Then why am I still worried about myself? Now I worry about estrogen and my heart. I get yearly physicals, and it seem to be all good...except the weight gain around my tummy. Now what??

This is normal when you first start any hormone. Think about it: Your body has responded to hormones with weight gain your entire life. At puberty, when you first started producing hormones, you gained weight. Just before each period, when your hormones changed drastically, you gained weight. When you first got pregnant, and had rapidly-increasing levels of hormones, you gained weight. When you lost your estrogen at menopause, you gained weight. And now, when you re-introduce hormones, you will gain weight .. but it's temporary (like the temporary weight of PMS). Likewise, you may have breast pain. And everything I wrote above applies to that, too. Give it at least 2 months. If you aren't happy after 2 months, consider changing to a different brand. It really bothers me that you are saying that women are walking around with alcohol in their water bottles. Not all menopausal women are addicted to alcohol. I really looked forward to your very first videos, but it’s beginning to sound like a long drawn out infomercial. Please put more positivity into your videos and more on the management of menopause.

I agree. My mom is 71, went through menopause and ran marathons. She doesn't run marathons anymore, but is still exercising fit, and riding her motorcycle every summer with my dad. No overuse of alchohol at all. I'm also finding her videos depressing, she makes is seem like everything just goes to pot. Not true at all.

She said she only had one hot flash, she still works out and has awesome muscle tone. She definitely doesn't look or act 71. Her mother (my grandmother). Is going to be 92 in 2 weeks. She still swims, walks ect. They both told me, keep eating right, excercise and keep a positive attitude. I know that it's not the same for everyone, but it doesn't have to be this depressing either.😉

@@heathergillis1649 It's wonderful to know that your mother has done so well at menopause. She sounds very positive and healthy and I hope it will be the same for you. I have had a medical background, but also in a different capacity, worked with hundreds of women over the years and most of the women I have worked with have suffered terribly, although, not all of them. What Menopause Taylor is concerned about are the many women out there who DO have a terrible time with it...me included. I am very fit and healthy, I cycle 40 miles several times a week, I'm vegetarian and careful about my diet, yet still I had a bad time. I now feel wonderful, for me the answer was HRT. It may not be the answer for everyone as there are many other ways to explore, which she knows about and conveys in depth. We do, however, need to be realistic about the changes involved so that we can make it as easy a time as we can for ourselves. I wish your mother continued vibrancy. How wonderful!😊

I'm 67, have been taking bio-identical HRT for 16 years. I cut it in half 6 months ago, trying to taper off. I almost immediately started gaining weight and have gained 20lbs, which is unusual for me and I can't seem to take it off like I used to be able to any time I wanted even at over 60. So my question is, is it ok for me to go back to my full dose? Will the weight start to come off easier if I do? Have I messed up my "window" that you speak of?

You have not messed up your window. My question is, "Why did you try to taper off?" I always say, "Don't dissect a rose." If everything is fine, why change anything? Would you taped off insulin if you were diabetic? Would you taler off thyroid hormone if you had hypothyroidism? Of course not. Weight gain is due to loss of estrogen. And getting it off at post-menopause is very difficult. Your body talks to you. Your job is to listen. If your body is happy, don't start changing things.

These things can get harder even when preventative habits are present. I adjusted my macro intake again. And I had this weird alcohol craving out of nowhere. It's between 90 and 110 degrees these few weeks and looking at a wine bottle would give me a migraine for the next month right now. I can eat hydrate and caffienate ahead of.time. Bad headache regardless. No thanks. I wanted red wine just one small glass. I thought What Really??? No. I don't really like alcohol anyway so I gave it up for my 50th birthday with the exception of red wine that I do enjoy and for me it's good heart management. I have some friends with these "water bottles." Maybe when the weather gets colder in a few months I should carry some "cranberry juice" to maintain my self discipline as friends love to share.

It's a bummer that women mostly aren't getting proper care, I have my appointment with a doctor i found on north American menopause society's list coming up very soon and I want estrogen yesterday lol! My main symptoms are joint pain and anxiety with a good dose of forgetfulness and impatience with intolerance
