My mother played this (LP) recording a lot when I was young - and she would get tears in her eyes listening to it. It was one of the few good memories I had of her. It is so nice to nice to hear this performance again. Thank you.

Einfach wunderbar!

Its not difficult to see why its not often played. Part of the problem is that for 1952 its rather retrospective-this shouldn't really be a problem (as long as the music is good) but it is. Lovely playing though-first time I have heard this artist-what a gorgeous sound.

Menotti was criticized (if not attacked) for writing in a style that was old-fashioned and too concerned with being popular with audiences, which was unfair. Many critics actually had good things to say about the violin concerto after its premiere, but it was lost in a sea of more “modern” works. Thankfully, it is gaining much-deserved popularity with audiences and performers. Because, as you said, the music is good, great even.
