You know, it's great watching these fine archers shoot so well in the competition, but what I enjoyed the most was the congratulatory behavior after it was all over. Great sportsmanship among these athletes.

Anyone else notice the final arrow Dan McCarthy shoots is the Medium Deer. But when the camera cuts to the judges scoring and retrieving the arrow, the target is the Mule Deer, and the targets we're facing opposite directions?

Great very good shots . How many yards was the target?
@geebee3d5 жыл бұрын
They range from ~25yds to ~50yds. The competitors are not told the yardage and not allowed to use rangefinders (in open pro class anyway...there are known classes that allow ranging) but rather have to estimate the distance to the target. It ups the difficulty considerably. Making it even harder is the fact that these guys have a 290fps speed limit on the arrows. That makes any error in judging the yardage make the arrow miss by that much more. When you figure the bonus scoring rings are 1.5” diameter, you realize how much skill it takes to do what these guys do

I like how he is saying, "Ok...looks like he is going aggressive with this shot..."I mean, which shot WOULDN'T you "Go aggressive" with? The point of this game IS to shoot all 14's am I correct?
@takashi03528 жыл бұрын
Bassmanwcm Apparently, the commentators think that archers are going to duke it out with all that "aggression."

This doesn't make any sense to me.. I bow hunt and when I shoot at something to kill I aim for the heart. Why are they shooting off the kill zone and still getting high scores????
@craigdavenport74927 жыл бұрын
Dalton Neal there are smaller bullseye in the body of the deer and if u hit that u get a score of 15 because it's such a small target to hit

The high scoring 14 ring is purposely placed in an area that you would not normally shoot in order to kill a real animal. The reason they put the 14 where they do is for the risk/reward factor for the competitors. This is unknown distance, so to hit the 14 you have to correctly judge the target down to a half a yard. If you go for it, and you are perfect in your distance judging and your shot execution, you are rewarded with big points. If you miss by even a little bit, you shoot an 8 or a 5. In a tournament where your competitors rarely shoot anything less than 10’s, an 8 or especially a 5 can ruin your day. And remember kids, 3D archery, while it is good practice for picking a spot on an animal and hitting it, is a target game by design. Therefore all of the rules, gear, and shooting styles used by target archers apply. Because again 3D TARGET archery is just that. A target competition. Gotta hit the spot, regardless of where it is. I went to a 3D fun shoot once where the final target of the day was a deer with an apple in his mouth. The apple was worth 100 points. Hit it and you got the points. Miss it and your arrow flew into a pond. In no hunting situation ever would you shoot the apple instead of the deer, but in that tournament situation, plenty of people went for it. A few even got it.

If those "ball bat" sized arrows aren't game changers, then WHY SHOOT THEM. You're contradicting yourself. I've been shooting for over 45 years. This is a handicap and a crutch if I've EVER seen one.
