Использование петлей такой конструкции - неэффективно. Нет замка, соединяющего детали. Но это беда не автора, а конструктора, который придумал такую конструкцию.

@@wakamiwailer In the era before computers, some curves on blueprints were drawn with splines. They didn't use nails. At General Dynamics they used lead weights with wire hooks that held the splines in place. The weights were vaguely duck shaped, so they were called ducks. The pointy tail was used as a handle to get the angle right. For moon rockets and other aerospace applications where an engineer with a slide rule did a bunch of calculations, the engineer would calculate exactly where the ducks should be placed. In the early 1980s I was at a University working on Computer Aided Design software. The underlying math was based on non-uniform rational B-spline curves, which could model almost any curve. They could be created several ways, one of which was to enter the list of points where the ducks were placed.

Wow this is the smartest video on DIY that I've ever seen. 1st because the project is brilliant, 2nd because it's the 1st time that I've seen someone use mainly his own skills without an overly excessive workshop but using very basic tools to get the job done. Congrats buddy this is fantastic.

Looks nice, but NO WAY would I stand on any of those steps with just 2 screws and an un-glued butt joint on each side. I would expect this piece to collapse sideways with anyone but a small child on that top step. Take a bit more time, use a proper dado and some glue on the sides and make a piece that will last a while.

Amen to lateral limberness and screws in shear in end grain plywood. Your library chair holds up to a slim built woman but a 220 lb man reaching to fit a flourescent tube? The ends of the steps need to be let in to the - well - jack and the inside corners gusseted. The whole assembly needs to be glued and doweled for strength. Gussets in the shape of a marine joiner's knee would be graceful and strong and complement the design, which, by the way, is very handsome.

Nice design. The stair treads need to be rabbeted into the side supports. The tread attachment is not acceptable to hold substantial weight. Plan for double the weight of an average person that might use it. Also, show what your making at the beginning of the video, rather than 7 minutes of build before your reveal.

Using a flexible straight edge to draw gentle curves is a good idea. You need to come up with a better hinge mechanism to keep the two pieces of the seat firmly close to each other. If the person sitting on the chair moves, there is a strong likelihood the of the bottom getting pinched. Notice at 7:52 the two halves of the seat moving and the gap at one side increasing to be a potential bottom pincher.

Дима, сделал ты все хорошо и аккуратно. Два совета - поставь стяжной замок, который будет фиксировать обе части стула при переноске, передвижке. И еще. Ступеньки из ФАНЕРЫ всего на двух болтах и не на клею дополнительно, по моему слабовато, рухнуть могут под весом человека. Поставь консольки или рейки под ступени, все прочнее будет. Ну а в целом - ЛАЙК тебе мастер!

Very nice, I think many people miss the point. The design seems quite stable despite standing on the top rung as she demonstrated. I have one of these that I've gone top rung on a few times besides the fact that mines poorer design tends to sometimes want to tip. Despite being infamous, the top rung existing means people will take a calculated risk and go there from time to time as an alternative isn't always practical or even possible. Top rung people get the job done or die trying... besides don't you guys have some new safety info...we bored of your usual well known advice. Wouldn't be surprised if he did it on purpose for comments :P

These are called Library steps in England, I made a set of these in solid Brazilian Mahogany and gave them to my daughter. I was a furniture restorer at the time.

Изготавливал такие стулья, дома до сих пор пользуемся, отличная штука. Вот только перекладины сделаны на мой взгляд ненадежно. Конфирмат может расщепить фанерную ступеньку, безопаснее сделать на шконтах или фрезеровать паз и стягивать конфирматом.

i seen these made lots of times since years and years ago but they use a piano flush hinge in the middle of the chair just one is needed you dont need the things you put on the sides....and it looks better the other way.

it is way better when you use a router bit with a bearing to round the edges of something that has been cut with a jig saw to first make the edge smoother to avoid that the bearing telegraph the edge inconsistencies to the rounded shape, it is something that has to be done anyway sooner or later, so is better to do it before you use the router bit. this, the hinges you decided to use that are imho not aesthetically correct, i prefer other types of hinges for this kind of chair, and mainly the screws and butt joint for the steps are the main flaws of an interesting and well executed project that could have been done in a better way. and as others told before me the steps are the real flaw, they are not safe to use and can potentially cause an injury if they fall apart, and there is no doubt that using plywood and only screws they will do it sooner or later if the chair is used as ladder often or by heavy people. with a bottom bearing straight bit to do the proper housed joints or dados, as are called in america, is a very quick and easy task, even few mm or a quarter of inch of dado makes the ladder much more safer.

Nice design. The only problem I see is the 4 screws holding each step. They are only holding half the timber width and there is not enough holding the steps, especially for the weight of a person on the highest steps. This will cause a bad fall as the chair/stool gets older. The steps should be imbeded into the legs/sides.

Yes, gluing some blocking on the underside of each step would add a lot of strength. Or use the router to inset the steps into the sides. But very nicely done with so few tools!
