Honestly, I would have to disagree with the length of the overcoat correlating to its formality. I believe all long coats should go just below the knees for ideal proportions, and it’s color indicating it’s formality. A dark charcoal or navy overcoat would be more formal than a light grey or brown one. Also, a coat with raglan sleeves would be more casual than on without. An added plus, the longer the coat, the warmer you’ll be.
