The number of children and youths suffering from stress, anxiety and depression has risen explosively in recent years. Betina Jacobsen and Iben Nørup take their point of departure in a study of youths’ own explanations of these developments and then connect these experiences to societal developments. These youths explanations and recent Danish educational and social reforms indicate an increase in pressure to preform and a development of an expanding ‘performance structure’ in society.
