I don’t understand why skaters are so mean to each other. Even the parents. It wasn’t like that in gymnastics! This is the hardest part of the switch for me. My coaches keep telling me I will go pro, do it keeps me motivated, but sometimes I wonder if I’d be happier in gymnastics where everyone supports each other.

Maybe it’s a sign to possibly find a new place to skate 🤷🏼‍♀️. Most places have very supportive and loving atmospheres, so changing might help.❤️

i started watching your videos about two months ago, and i have to say you are SO INSPIRING! i really think your editing is such a good mix of engaging and informative, and i love that you're so transparent about your growth and awareness, outside and within figure skating. thank you for continuing to make these quality videos, they are such a highlight of my day when i see them! you inspire me to keep my head up while learning to skate as an adult, and just generally be compassionate with myself. thanks rachel :')

No but you are so right when you say figure skating is literally mental health and the rest physical! I just passed grade 1 of Skate UK (i'm 18 :/) and i'm still struggling with snow plough stops and T stops even tho they're supposed to be easy! I can skate backwards much better than forwards too so i think it's about building a lot of confidence and having to trust yourself not to fall lol. Anyway you're a huge inspiration Rachel! :3

i love these types of videos :D i myself started at the age of 9, which i think is quite late ( considering I was supposed to start when i was 5, but something happened and i had to stop skating for some years ) i always feel like my spins are not as good as they were before and my doubles are not yet consistent enough… these videos make me feel less alone and encourage me to continue even when things are not going as i want :D

Ahh i’ve been struggling so much recently with skating mentally. i really enjoy my private lessons which i switched to recently and practice but i find myself going home and crying after private lessons because i feel like im progressing slowly. i learned salchow last week and had another lesson on it on Friday, in the 1 week i hadn’t skated i completely lost my salchow and was scared of the full rotation and my coach helped me get it back and it improved a lot too! but i still wasn’t happy and felt like i wasn’t even a figure skater. it sounds a bit mean but something that helped a lot was watching videos of people who progressed slower than me, its not a bad thing because they’re still talented and i look up to them but a year ago her salchow was starting rougher than mines and now she’s doing so amazing! it makes me realise that my progress is actually faster than i thought it was and if she was happy with her progress then i should be happy with mines! this video also helps a lot!💗💗

When I watch such videos, I envy the empty rink the most. Perhaps figure skating is too popular in my country (Russia), there are always a lot of people at any skating rink in the city (especially not street skating and with good ice). It is difficult to try elements and especially jumps when there is a feeling that you are standing on a road with heavy traffic.😄

Yes, Russia is a popular place for figure skaters! Many of the Olympic champions come from there so I understand how hard it is 😅

i landed my axel 3 times 1 and a half years ago and now, when the harness is literally tied to me, I have amazing axels. the harness is literally clipped to the belt. as soon as the clips come off or the belt goes away, I pop the jump and don't go for it. everyone keeps telling me it's psychological, which ik it is, but the weird thing is that I know that I can do this jump, but it's like me body won't let me. idk what to do anymore. I've been skating for 9 years, I'm only on junior moves and haven't gotten a consistent axel. I've been competing in the same category for 3 years. i love skating, but I'm starting to wonder if it's worth wasting my parents money if I'm not improving. i just got new skates so hopefully that helps but I don't have much hope anymore tho :(

i’m 13 (which is pretty late to start)and have been looking into starting private lessons because i would love to learn to be a figure skater and the local rink recommended that since i don’t have skating experience to do private lessons which i agree with. but i’m not sure if i’ll really fall in love with it and my mum said that if she starts me in lessons i have to really commit to it for atleast a year, what should i do??
@sprayz390
@sprayz390 9 ай бұрын
i started at 16! i fell in love with it, it may be different for you. you can do private lessons with a coach if you’d like! do not let age stop you. if you procrastinate and start a year later, two years later and are still thinking about it like i did. you’ll have regretted not starting when you wanted to. for me, that’s my only skating regret. if i didn’t second guess my want to do it, i would’ve had not only missed out on a lot of progress, but a lot of the joy and pure happiness from being on the ice. not only that, but coaches told me i had a natural talent for this, i was progressing at an insane rate for a 16 year old beginner. you never know what you might accomplish until you try.
