@@rafaeltaboada1176 Ariel being white in the animation is not important to the story at all. She’s a singing mermaid who lives under the sea that wants legs. Unlike Mulan or Jasmine whose heritage is actually important to the plot. For example, it would be CRAZY to make Mulan white since her culture is so important to the plot. That is no where near the same for Ariel. She could be blue and the story wouldn’t change.

@@lol-ot4pn is the story or the message about race? No right? The message is the same. The story and it’s dynamics are the same. So once again, why does it matter if the only difference they make is the color of her skin? Y’all are mad about the young girl not the character. Y’all are using the character to mask your closet issues with black representation. There’s real issues with this type of stuff in other movies that y’all can fight over and I’d be right with you. But This shouldn’t be one of them. If they all of a sudden made fucking wonderwoman a black woman then y’all can have at it. But a mermaid? Co’e on bruh. Black people cant be mermaids now because someone decided they wanted a mythical creature to look like them, but when we do the same it’s a problem. Do y’all understand how myths work? They change over time. I can guarantee that the depiction of a mermaid that we know now was totally different than how the original person who created the myths( not the books or stories but the actual myth of sea creatures from those times) depicted them. Y’all don’t have a problem with centuries worth of changes being done to the myths but have an issue with it when Blake people add their own part to it? I don’t get it. It’s illogical to me. Y’all treating a mermaid race as if it’s a fact that they are white. Just petty for the sake of it. ITS NOT REAL. She’s a fish not a human. She doesn’t have a race nor does she have to be specifically depicted in a certain way.

Honestly, the only thing that bothers me about Arielgate is how disrespectful this whole thing is to Halle as a singer and actress. Girl can SANG, girl can act, and girl has that Disney-Princess cutesy charm to her on top of that. The director being wowed by *BOTH* her Grammy performance and her subsequent audition for the role is supposed to be the whole reason why Ariel is black. So instead on focusing on pandering this and pandering that, can we at least stop for a minute and appreciate her talent ?
@rafaeltaboada11762 жыл бұрын
Nobody said nothing about her being ugly or talentless, y’all the only ones that want to make it a race issue, people or just bothered because she doesn’t match nothing to the character besides her having a nice voice. It ruins the story because her features don’t match Ariel’s at all.
@skayles47162 жыл бұрын
@@rafaeltaboada1176 Except yes, people desperately wanting to make it a pandering issue and nothing more than that is super dismissive of Halle's talent, because the whole pandering argument stands on the grounds of her having been picked SOLELY based on her race as a token actress. And no, her not having the original character's features doesn't in any way ruin the story, because Ariel's only important characteristics are her curiosity, naiveté, beauty and beautiful voice. Her being white with red hair _doesn't have a single ounce of importance_ besides surface level aesthetic appeal. Rather than making foolish claims and making nonsensical comparisons, just say that you liked the 1989 aesthetic better and leave it at that.

It’s the lack of originality. There are plenty of stories about black mermaids, that exist in African mythology. Why not make a movie about one of those, instead of being lazy and race swapping a famous white mermaid. Why not give the kids something new, that can stick around, instead of race swapped character that’s only gonna be around for one, maybe two movies, before it gets stent to black Cinderella’s room, and never to be seen or heard from again. Why do all these black characters have to be race swapped versions of white characters, to be inclusive. I’m just curious 🤷🏾♂️

If they wanted to do something new they could just use one of the stories about black mermaids, that exist. Or make up a new story about a new mermaid, that can sing.
