This episode had the funniest intro. Baseball, ku klux clan, aliens. All within minutes. Genius

Greatest show ever..tackled many things, most people think its just about aliens, crazy. The baseball's Mulder and Scully hit ended up as brightened stars, just a subtle and beautiful thought and touch.

For sure one of the show's very best episodes. When Ex dies by the hand of the alien bounty hunter, i'm always teary eyed. At the end Mulder teaches Scully, how to play baseball. Such a lighthearted scene to end an episode with an overall sad and poignant undertone. One of my most beloved episodes of the entire series.

I thought this was a pretty cool episode since it showed the greys were not this uniform malevolent force which they came across as, for most of the series. It also showed they had certain cultural aspects as evidenced by the execution scene where honor was brought up (thus indicating, there is more to them than pure, cold, logic). It made me curious what their (in the general sense) PoV might have been on the events of the series. Are the ones we see visiting Earth and experimenting on people an alien version of the syndicate (i.e. shadowy, will do immoral things, etc. but effectively believing they are doing things for the greater good), with the rest of their civilization being "normal"? There _was_ the Jeremiah Smith episode earlier in the series, but that was kind of played as a one-off, so this one really went well with that one, despite it being seasons later.

The truth is, everything in the Mythology doesnt quite add up, they wrote it as they went, and in particular this episode, but it was done in the name of good story telling, and they did the right thing. This episode was good.

What's interesting about the ABHs "true face" speech, is that every time we witness him going in for a kill, he'll always shift to his Brian Thompson form. The Gregor clone he was chasing in Colony, outside the detention facility before going to execute Jeremiah, and also the faceless rebel in The Red and the Black. An alien assassin with a code, what an interesting concept!

I still don’t understand the ending. Was Exley human? How did his blood change? Did he have a transfusion, what the hell happened?
@MAJ0RMEL0DY Жыл бұрын
I felt like they went a little metaphorical with this one and uses the transition as tool to show he was “human” Bit wishy washy but the x files did have a camp and comic elements to it at certain times

Yes a bit confusing to those not used to the Xfiles, I think he continued to bleed acid but in that moment his love for humanity, the love for the sport, and the great time he had on Earth was so strong it transmuted his blood to that of the body he occupied in that moment in time. Yes.. only the Xfiles can make you think twice out of the box.. one of the greatest show ever.

@peterversionone One of the episode's themes was racism, Exley bleeding red was symbolic of his wish to be human and therefore treated like an equal to the people he grew so close to. Yes, biologically it makes no sense, but it's supposed to show something more meaningful.

Looking back on this, the premise was wildly racist: that a black guy like Josh Gibson couldn’t have done all the amazing athletic feats… that it had to be an alien.

If you think that was the premise of the episode, then you didn't put much thought into it.
