Awesome review! I am a Fort Payne native and still live in and love my hometown. I am daily amazed to see the mountains and scenery that we are so fortunate to be surrounded by. It is refreshing to see others who come to “our home” and enjoy it as well. I hope to never take our slice of paradise for granted. Tips from a foodie: For your next trip, I would suggest Fontana’s, a local Greek/Italian restaurant on the corner of 1st Street North, just across from The Spot. Great spanakopita, philly gyros, and Greek potatoes. Less than a block North is The Strand. This is an antique store filled with history and home of the famous “Bonanza Burger.” A quarter mile North is Roadside ‘Que. The Bourbonzola Brisket Burger is out of this world and the Macaroni will change your life. Taco Tuesdays at Roadside are also a local favorite. La Fonda is a killer spot for some authentic Mexican cuisine. I am a local banker at First Southern State Bank. Swing by and we’ll cash your check so you guys can buy more local artwork for your new home. 👍 Y’all come back soon!

You should come see me at Adamsburger Grill for one of the best burgers ever. Meat locally grown by TRM, Randy Owens family farm. Just minutes from Mentone.

I was in Fort Payne to visit the ALABAMA MUSEUM during Memorial Day Weekend. And see where Randy Owen lived. After watching your video I want to go back and see what I missed the first time. Had heard of Mentone but didn't know how close I was. Your video was Awesome. Now I have too revisit the area.

Thanks so much for this video! I've been living in the desert southwest for far too long and am sick of brown scenery, unrelenting sunshine, no rain, no greenery, etc. Recently retired and have been trying to think outside of the box, since most westerners are afraid to move to another region, especially anywhere that might be stiflingly conservative. But I know what I'm seeking in a new locale is a vibrant arts and food scene (mandatory) and that usually means more broadmindedness. This area is definitely on my list of possibilities now. It probably helps that I lived in nearby Gadsden for most of age 12 and was really happy there.

It's been a long time since I've been to Mentone. I ran across your video when I was goggle whether the yellow deli was still in business out that way and you enlightened me on all the stuff to do in fort Payne and Mentone that I didn't even know about last time I went out there it seemed dead .Thanks so much cj

We are going to this ares for the weekend. This is a well done video, great footage and editing. Seemed to be alot of activities, a variety of nice places to eat and lots to see and do. The trip looked very expensive. I understand prices are subject to change depending upon alot of variables. If possible maybe add some price ranges for the things shown. Folks on a budget may want to see this beautiful place and might want to see what's affordable.

Wow! Thanks for such an awesome review! Dekalb county in particular, is such a hidden gem of Lookout Mountain. Locals, long time visitors and even new ones know that there is no better place to experience a real authentic mountain vacation experience then right here on Lookout Mountain in Mentone and Fort Payne, Al. You have captured the essence and the spirit of the people, the communities and the mountain. Thank you for being the consummate professional!

Just $5/car. Hike, climb, sight see. Yep Cherokee Rock City. Best county park anywhere around. Found it by accident about 29 years ago. Take my scouts there every chance I get. Just three rules, no running, no jumping from rock to rock and no vertical climbing without a rope, then we drive up to Little River Canyon and go swimming at the secret swimming hole (no cost).

You miss the whole point of going to Fort Payne is to go the Alabama Fan club and Museum. You can't miss their huge statues on main street. Go to the Strand Restaurant on main to eat. Go see Little River Canyon, there so much beautiful scenery to see.
