Fantastic thought but not balanced though... because while Discipleship is important, mentoring is also important. In Ephe 5:1, Paul asked us to follow God as dear children, but also in 1Cor. 11:1, he asked us to follow him as he follows Christ. That is the balance. The emphasis on one does not discard the use or importance of the other.

His point is for us to point the cross to the disciples instead of pointing ourselves. Bcos on the last day...... As in laslas, when the role is called up yonder, even ur mentor go stand for line with you. Let's keep looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!

Mentoring means to guide. Jesus through the Spirit has asked us to be pastors or shepherds leading children to the shepherd Jesus. Paul had students who learned from him also. Mentoring is how we grow spiritually.

This is what the church leaders need to understand. Now they use the scripture: "copy me as I copy Christ" (1 Cor.11:1) Imagine if there are traces of errors in the teachings and life of your mentor, when you are not allowed to relate to Jesus in the dymics of His dealings/revelation... Both the teacher/mentor and the mentee have to be discipled by HOLY SPI RIT to be like Jesus in everything. God Help the Body of Christ.

The balance here is "mentoring is different from discipleship. As clearly stated by Apostle, mentoring is just an act of replicating yourself in others, while discipleship is leading people to Christ." The point here is just the term or the choice of word. Most Christian leaders often disciple people and yet call it mentorship. The idea is just the context of the function of your action if you lead people to become like Christ JESUS or to be like you.
@officialsarahwonders2 жыл бұрын
@TheDay HeMade There is no issue, the point Apostle is clearing up is the use of terminology. The Scripture you referenced I'd discipleship but some people are wrongly calling it mentorship. Stay blessed ❤️

Also..is there such a word like my "spiritual father" or "spiritual mother" in the bible? This term is used a lot with pentecostals. The bible uses the words "son in the faith".1 Timothy 2:1. Consequently we can have a "father in the faith"..but not a spiritual father. Your spiritual father is God Himself but your earthly teacher is your "father in the faith".

Apprenticeship is different from mentoring. And mentoring does not mean you are teaching someone to be like you. A good mentor understands everyone has a unique path in Christ. It's using higher experience in helping them maximize it. It's all discipleship.

Great! 1. This exactly what Jesus Christ did to His disciples. He taught them that they may do likewise and also to replicate. 2. He mentored them by given them spiritual covering so much that they did not fast. They said John disciples do fast, Jesus Christ answered by saying: am still around, they need not to fast while am around. That means: they are covered. That is both discipling and mentoring. They go hand in hand 🧤

@jt199332 жыл бұрын
As much as I love him. He's not quite correct here. Of course mentorship is biblical. You are not making the person like you, you are leading, guiding and directing a person in a way that helps them to develop. The word is not in the Bible, but the act and idea of it is there. Look at Paul and Timothy, Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Eli and Samuel....I'm sure that you can find. Sorry Apostle, you need to research this one a little more.

You don't begin to disciple someone when you have not conformed to the image of Christ. Paul said follow me as I follow Christ. How do you explain that away. Let's put things into context. Mentoring has its place and Discipleship has its place. I don't think you should condemn the concept of mentoring. Mentoring is helping people to achieve success in a field that you have succeeded in. Can we focus on preaching the gospel and stop confusing the church with meaningless doctrines that only stir more questions
@successmotivationwtobiayol23692 жыл бұрын
Mentoring in the real sense is designed to help a person to be the best he or she could be as a person. A Mentee can be better than the mentor. Mentoring is making the best he could possibly be , even better than the mentor. Just like a footballer can be better than a coach.
@adebayotosinemmanuel9592 жыл бұрын

Wrong understanding of the word. Mentoring means advising not making people to be like you. Look at the etymology of the word. However his context is correct but his definition of mentoring is erred
@jinduogbugh2887 Жыл бұрын
TOTALLY WRONG! MENTORING, YOU MENTOR PEOPLE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THE SAME FIELD OF EXPERTISE LIKE YOU. DISCIPLESHIP IS THE SAME IDEA. PAUL SAYS IMITATE ME AS I IMITATE CHRIST. WE ARE THE CLOSEST PROOF THAT THE JESUS WE ARE TEACHING OTHERS IS REAL.
@TheLegend-uq1gz2 жыл бұрын
I respectfully disagree with the Apostle. Mentoring is biblical, Paul mentored Timothy, there are many more examples in the Bible. Mentoring is not creating anybody in your own image. It is giving guidance & listening to their (mentee) own opinions too, as a matter of fact, the mentor will even learn from the mentee.
