How far will Mentos mints propel a single bottle of soda? The big rocket car, powered by 648 Mentos and 108 bottles of soda, carried Fritz 221 feet and carried David Letterman 364 feet (but to be fair, he was going downhill a bit). Using a single 2 liter bottle of diet soda and 6 Mentos, the mini-rocket car has (so far) gone 176 feet!
If you're a kid, don't try this without a responsible adult supervising. If you're an irresponsible adult, don't try this.
Make sure you wear your goggles, use the wrist strap (to keep the piston from flying away accidentally), and aim away from people, cars, buildings, and other objects.

@Cheesius Yep, you're spot on! We tried shorter and the rocket car did indeed spin out of control. We did find a tube available from a specialty plastics manufacturer that is lighter than PVC and that was a bit better. But we set ourselves the goal of making this rocket car with only what you can find from your local hardware store, so PVC won on that front.

LOVE THIS SOOO MUCH!!! I did it for my project, but had a shortened PVC Pipe, but it still worked well enough1 It only went 14 meters but it amazed everybody!! did it late at night and did not test it until school, but it was wonderful. I got showered with coke!

It's pretty awesome to see how famous you guys and your videos have become and then to watch this video and be like "HEY! That's the high school I went to!" That's definitely something I'm going to try!

I did something similiar to this! Thanks for showing me this!! I took 5 bottle of coke and put the on a borad and aim them like 10 degrees down abnd fired... UP WE GO!

This is fantastic. I can't help but wonder if it would be more effective to have a shorter piece of PVC. The tube you have drags on the ground and creates a lot of drag. On the other hand, if you made it too short, I imagine it would cause the car to spin around instead of going forwards - I'm sure the PVC hanging off the back is acting as a stabilizer. Might be worth some experimentation with differing lengths of PVC - but then, I imagine the EepyBirds have already done these tests.

i tried this but it only went 19 ft i did every thing you said but it looked like the tube made it stop so i thought about adding a wheel to the tube would that work?

followed everything you did, but car didn't move. Soda was room temperature but outside temperature was 40. we tasted mentos seemed hard and not very pepperminty. mentos or temp? any suggestions?

damn, i tried the experiment and it didn't work but i think i know what i did wrong so maybe next time it will work! thanks for the video i really needed this!
