The priest looks at him suspiciously until he unveils his pack of Mentos, at which point the priest nods understandingly and our hero leaves with his item intact, having done his good deed(s) for the day.

There's nothing "grungy" about the people in any of people in the extensive number of the 90's commercials. That, unfortunately, was an American thing. Those ads were from Europe. They retained the sharp cool look that America also had in the 80's and EARLY 90's before grunge. That's why in the late 90's they still looked good in Europe.
