I was a young wannabe filmmaker on my first attempt at directing a movie. It was the second day, going terribly, I have been up for two days straight and we just ended at 2am. Exasperated, I went to my car to relax before breaking down. This song came on, never heard it ever before, and it made my stress melt and filled me with such Joy. Everything was much more expensive to do. Music videos, albums, etc were much more expensive to make. The level of artistry that you see and hear in the 1980's comes from people who were at the very top of their craft. I'll give you another example. A picture came in a roll of 20. Once you used your 20 pictures, you had to pay to get it developed and then pay for copies of the picture. So people were more selecting of what they would capture on film or magnetic tape.

The thing is, there was a sincerity they had that a lot of those later bands lacked. So many of them had an undercurrent of cynicism to them. These guys meant it (I mean, if you could figure out what the hell they were saying). The name of their next album after this was "The Adventures of Women and Men Without Hate in the 21st Century", so they weren't joking around. Thing is, that becomes your death knell if you also live in a cynical world, which is what the 90s was (which is part of why, as another example, someone Seal isn't more popular than he is despite consistently producing solid music), but I saw these guys live a few years ago, and they're just as awesome as they've ever been. And yeah, I'm close to your age (turning 49 soon), so we have the same twin perspectives on this. Now I have kids who were my age when this came out and I get to introduce them to it, and maybe they'll think their Dad's taste in music isn't so bad after all. :-)

better start in the 70's. 1974 was maybe the most importent year in Rock & Pop. All the GREAT Bands released the best albums. A very long list of edgy works,..

+Michael Chen 1974 hmm? let's see...New Pink Floyd? Nope. New zep? nope. bowie did release diamond dogs in 74 but that album may very well be his worst of the 70s. let's see....Dylan? Nope. The Who? Nope. Roxey Music? Nope. What kind of 1974 have u been listening to exactly?

Yeah , lost 3 friends , my young sister and my dad, in 1980 I turned 13 and for the next 10 years life was awesome, free , fun at school, parties as a teenager, freedom from danger , death , anxiety and awesome friends...Now life has changed for the world
