Hey Lucy! As for the pit stains and smell: leave your white clothing items to soak in water with sodium carbonate. If you leave it to soak over night it should get rid of most of the discoloration and then throw it into the machine for a regular cycle. You could also add extra whitening powder to your cycle to be extra sure (I just use Vanish powder for white clothing and put a scoop in with my detergent). To get rid of the smell you can add a cup of vinegar to your cycle when doing laundry. If that doesn’t help, a soak will also do wonders, afterwards just wash as you normally would. You can use the vinegar on any color of clothing, but I’m not sure if the sodium carbonate would also have a bleaching effect on colored clothing, I haven’t tried that personally. Hope this helps!

I track my own wardrobe usage in an excel file, and I love seeing other people do it. Makes me feel a little less unreasonable for committing the time to up keep it. Something that I do, that I would recommend, is to track items that leave your closet. What item was it, how many wears did it have and why are you getting rid of it. I’ve been tracking long enough for a couple items to exit from pure wear and tear, and it’s interesting to know exactly how many times you wore the item before it became unusable. Also, if your clothes smell, put them in an airtight bag and put them in the freezer for a few days. Freezing temperatures should kill off any bacteria which is likely the cause of smell if it’s just lingering BO in your clothing.

Hi Lucy, my advice for sweat stains on whites is to apply bleach (if the fabric can take it), wash that out, then soak in nappysan. :) For any lingering smell, try soaking in white vinegar, this should kill the bacteria that is creating the smell. I agree with another commenter, it is often synthetic fibers that are holding onto the smell, so It can be tough to treat.

gosh, Lucy! how I missed your wardrobe videos!!!! and idk if you've already tried it, but the thing I do to remove sweat smells from my clothing is to let them soak in laundry soup for about a day or so (it happens mostly to my gym tops) and then, putting them in the washing machine for the regular cycle (if you don't want to wash it by hand). for me, at least, it's really effective. :)

Love your wardrobe content! My favourite would be long form thoughts and information heavy video’s diving into decisions for wearing / purchasing why certain silhouettes, fits, drapes, fabric(!) and even how things wear during the day. Also thoughts on why you wear certain thins for how they make you feel or influence others on how to think about you (f.e. I talked with some co-workers about what I pay attention to when I dress for work which includes needing to dress creative looking because of my field and not drawing attention to my chest. Another thing I do with clothes is dress to help me less stressed I’ll dress in dungarees cause that is what I imagine chill people to dress like). I would love some of your thoughts in that direction. Maybe something like a what I wear analysis, internet analysis by Tiffany ferg style?

Whering tip, it seems daunting to take photos but just pop the garment on a hangar and take a photo its better and easier in the long run. For smell, I personally have had a couple of items that when they got wet (like through sweat or other things) immediately begin to have that sweat smell and I was told to freeze them. What I was told was that there's some kind of bacteria that sticks around, and will reactivate when wet and you can kill them by freezing them. I recently tried it and it seemed to work! I popped them in the freezer for a few days (lowkey because I forgot about them), but afterwards I haven't noticed anything!

People are saying to use vinegar for removing persistent bad odors, personally I have not found that effective. What I have used successfully is plain old ethanol. You can also use plain vodka, the higher the ethanol % the better. Just put it in a spray bottle and spritz away. Most smells are organic molecules and ethanol is an organic solvent, so there you go.

For your whites, try laundry stripping. The additives people use in their laundry create a film on clothing that causes weird smells. Skip clothing that has spandex/lycra/etc in it. You can't properly wash clothing that has that woven right into the fabric without ruining the whole item. Waist elastics can always be replaced but entirely elastic fabric can't be. As for preventing pit stains, ditch the aluminum deodorant and get pit shields. They're either disposable or washable pads that go in the arm pit and absorb the sweat so it doesn't get on your white fabrics or your fancy fabrics. You should be using these with anything that's "dry clean" and if you're going to be wearing a sweater without a tshirt under it, you need pit shields, just for the sake of sweater preservation. Sweaters (at least the quality wool ones) only need to be washed a couple times a year if you're not getting them sweaty.
