I love all of this - I just spent three months in creative/sartorial/existential crisis - exclusively wearing giant sweatpants and and Olsen twin tee shirt, the latter of which inspired me to look up older fashion photos of said twins, and monochromatic dressing was IT. I'm digging my way out of this funk by doing this thing

The chunky knit over floral or print maxi brings me back to 1990 something fierce. We also had the maxi skirt pairing too - back then it was hard pressed to come by tailored knits unless you were looking at that old lady cruise label that’s escaping my recollection. Everything was boxy and cropped too. I still have some of it is the funny part. I’ve officially cycled to being “vintage” at the ripe age of 49 😂 Edit* St. John. That’s the label. Thank you google aneurysm avoided

I used to work in Harrods. Sales assistant, well, you know. I've learnt to appreciate the monochromatic outfits from the "old money" clients. Rarely did they buy the matchy-matchy outfit, like top and bottom. The reason is that one will inevitably be used more than the other, and with time, the difference in colour is almost unavoidable. However, when you buy outfits in the same colour but different in texture, magic happens. Magic, which lasts decades..

I’m 90 years old and I still have an image in my head from 1952 when I saw a wealthy woman in downtown Chicago, dressed in royal blue from her shoes, nylons, outfit, hat, gloves, purse, and have loved, and practiced your suggestion ever since then. I have been complemented many times how I always look put together and fashionable since then. I’ve never been wealthy and always on a limited budget. But shopping at Goodwill out of necessity for many years has kept me very fashionably in this way.

I'm not very "fashun", but what has brought my joy out in dressing lately is just wearing what makes me happy and smile. I'm an elementary school librarian and I've found that when I wear something fun and "out of the box", it also makes the kids happy. My most recent joyful outfit was on a theme day when I was wearing lots of Frida Kahlo accessories and wore a pair of red overalls (and also a flower crown). Can we make casually wearing flower crowns a thing? I felt awesome all day!

In lockdown my sister & I did a week of bright monochromatic outfits, working through the colours of the rainbow. No-one was going to see us, just our partners & the photos we sent to each other. It was so much fun! Not only did it show each of us what actually we had in our wardrobes & how to wear some stuff that would hardly ever get worn, but for me it also gave me loads of confidence in how good monochrome could look on me, & I love it

Hannah, I'd like to say *thank you* for including different body shapes and sizes in this video (diverse skin tones, too). I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer last year, and at the same time, I was also beginning perimenopause. I had a thyroidectomy in September, and in October I did a round of radiation therapy. I'm just about 44 years old and have been petite and thin my entire life, and then, BOOM, I began perimenopause AND had my thyroid removed...and my body really changed. I've gained 45 pounds in the eight or so months since my diagnoses, surgery, and treatment (and I'm only 5'4"!); I can say that when you become a much larger size in such a short period of time than the size you've always been, it's a whole new world to navigate--physically AND mentally. It's really great to see examples of people who are ACTUALLY plus size, looking chic as hell and totally gorgeous. Gives me a confidence boost. Excellent video. Edit: would love to see more of the same for different trends/seasons/etc.

I was also glad to see different body types and a few men. Inclusion is nice. I love flowing clothes. Gorgeous silky fabrics in beautiful colors. I think of it as the Opera Singer style. I love flowing fabrics on any size and shape. I think it is my thing. It makes me happy. It is stressful whenever we have to reinvent ourselves, or our style or lives. It if like going through adolescence again. During my first adolescence, I learned to love and honor a lot about myself. I had great self-confidence for years. A few years ago, I experienced some changes. I am currently reinventing myself, too. Ggeemmiinnii, I wish you every happiness reinvent yourself. I wish you a very illuminating personal Renaissance.

I‘ve been through weight gain from illness and it’s so important to realise that our precious bodies do their best to keep us alive and deserve to wear nice clothes no matter how much or how little fat/water we‘re made up of at any given moment. Try implementing colors bit by bit. Every color goes with black. You can star with socks, or shoes, t-shirts. Slowly you will fall inlove with colors. I one also wore all black, then slowly introduced colors, and now i rarely go in all black. Now its mostly neutral monochromatic in the winter, and more vibrant in fron spring to autumn.

I love how you encourage people to use texture. A few years ago my husband was only wearing black and green, but he told me he would definitely wear more colors if they were "soft like these shirts". I felt them, took a look at what they're made of, and proceeded to get him an assortment of different colors, but the same texture, I thought suited him for Christmas each year. Now he wears navy blue, red, and tan shirts, in addition to the black and green. He also enjoys wearing a really lightweight purple, plaid print shirt he got while traveling, because of how it feels. I realized I also enjoy texture and it's helped me let go of the need for an assortment of graphic printed t-shirts. It's easier to pair textures than prints, especially printed pictures and words.

Men are much more selective about comfort in their clothes and won’t accept things just for the look of them, as we often will. I’m in his camp now, comfort is first priority, if it doesn’t feel great, I don’t buy it! This is much harder for us women when it comes to shoes, I have a dismal “keep” rate on them, even though I stick to 2-inch, block heels as my dressiest.

When I took a wardrobe class for color draping, she also included texture draping. Lucky me I can wear any texture, but because I'm large, I'd always avoided wearing chunky things because I felt like they made me look bigger. After the class I started wearing every texture. Some people with delicate proportions can be overwhelmed by big textures, but look great in more subtle things like cashmere or fine lace.

I find the clothes sold to be bitty, gimmicky, see-through, nothing matching, confusing - in other words, never what I'd like. But as this video suggests, the very interesting photoshoots shown can indeed be found in my bulging wardrobe of rejects! I especially like the concept of chunky knits over colourful summer dresses. And the video shows real people and everyday clothes rather than catwalk models which no-one wishes to look like. Thank you, you may have transformed my relationship with my wardrobe!

Half of the schools I went to had a uniform dress code, but one school had a free-dress raffle that we entered with tickets that were earned for random acts of kindness around campus that pulled a handful of tickets at the beginning of each school week for the coming Friday. This one time I won, I was SO LIT to show up wearing all pink I can't even explain it. My mom got me this matching set with like four different shades of pink a few weeks before and I was like "mmhmm that's the one I'ma slay." I showed up so happy, and it was like every girl was going through a "eww you're wearing pink and that's girly" phase BUT ME. It's been my favorite color my entire life, yet that day made me really wary about dressing monochromatic. This video brought me back to reality. I want to tell 8 yo me "nah girl they just don't get it, you slayed" lol but frfr thank you for this video I'ma subscribe now.

Two different teal pieces with different colored teal as cropped wide leg pant and short and long sleeve linen tee’s. I am having fun with these few pieces to also include a natural colored linen wide leg pant that can be worn with black or white pieces. I love monochromatic, colourful outfits so thanks for all this inspo, all in one place. I think a body typing system like Kibbe that looks at how fabric drapes over the body rather than trying to 'compensate' everyone to look like an hourglass is the key to understanding if you look better with an unbroken vertical line or broken up vertical line, and if you look better in the outfits that are fully formfitting vs fully loose vs a balance of fitted and loose items.

@@grreeeeeeAs for bows and ruffles, those kinds of details are more about Kitchener essence, which is based on your face and personality. Kibbe is about the overall drape of fabric and the shape of an outfit, not little details like that.

@@grreeeeee 0) First I encountered this system is from Justine Leconte, but she doesn't follow it. She's a fashion designer but I don't like her advice, it's all too "everyone should be a tall long elegant hourglass". She does give good guidance on quality of garments. 1) My favourite is Elyssa, she is definitely most nuanced in her discussions of the system - but that makes her videos long, and I know some people don't like long. 2&3) Aly art and Merriam style are quite detailed too, instructive, but they don't put nuance into every single video so you might not like that. I watched all of their videos, so I know their philosophy is to first of all feel good in your clothes, but if you would just pick a few videos on random, they don't repeat it in all of them, so it would be lost on new viewers, especially if you already come mistrusting the system. Also Aly's first language is not english so there are some terms that might sound weird, i'm also slavic so i do find that i understand better what she is trying to say, but it can be an issue because she translates some things literally from her language to english ( i think she's russian) and the meaning is lost. 4) Ellie-Jean Royden | Body & Style is a newer one for me, she talks a lot more about style than archetypes, at least in the portion of the videos i watched, so didnt learn much new from her on the kibbe system, but some of her explanations did help for some stuff to finally click for me (e.g. shoulders geometry). I like that she mentions between-types, for all of us that are not sure yet ☺ Those are the main, that I follow regularly, Aly is especially inclusive I like that about her. If I find any more I'll edit the comment but these are the best for me. I did encounter on my recommended I few that I very much didn't like from the language they were using, it's meant to be neutral but they seemed almost offensive to me.
@caradonley8287
@caradonley8287 Жыл бұрын
@Rachel I would recommend Gabrielle Arruda. I really like her explanations of Kibbe types, but what I find especially helpful is the way she describes combining the Kibbe system with Kitchener essences. I find this is a way to cover more of the bases, and often allows for a more nuanced exploration of personal style that matches each person’s vibe and personal preferences. I also like Aly Art and Merriam Style for Kibbe content as another commenter mentioned already. Merriam has her own way of describing body types that she uses sometimes, but it basically corresponds with the Kibbe types, and she also talks specifically about Kibbe. She definitely has videos that specifically go over the way fabric and different cuts of clothing drape over different body shapes and the lines and silhouettes created from that.

I agree about the magic of a monochrome outfit. My laziness in trying to put together a good outfit from my closet, and just making it all shades of one color, like green, blue, purple, or brown, has often resulted in my most complimented outfits. You have to put way less thought and effort in and yet the outfit still ends up looking curated. I had never heard of it described as Tonal before, but I like that. All I ever have to think about when I go with one color is if the textures are compatible (subjective, ofc) and what kind of silhouette I'm looking for. Plus if I'm leaning more masculine or feminine or a mix. Only having to think about those things and still ending up with something cute has always been so nice. I once was asked if I study fashion simply because my outfit was all shades of brown lmao Plus you can just pick what color fits your mood that day!

I'm generally perceived as quite "trendy" in the workplace, but I actually have a box I call the "beater bin" and only wear clothes I feel are not valuable to work, so when I realized people thought my scrubby clothes were fashionable I was pretty gobsmacked. but I think my coworker and I have worked out why I seem pretty trendy I tend to follow a rule I've made up where if one item of clothes is oversized or blousant, one other must be fitted. so the eye naturally travels back and forth. so even if you are wearing denim beaters to throw wood planks around, you still somehow accidentally look like you've tried. I thought I was doing it for easy range of movement. because, like, if you wear too many oversized things, you can't move around very well because the fabric catches. but if you wear too form-fitting things, you can't move around very well because you focus so much on what you are wearing. but if you wear one-to-one ratio, you get the best of both worlds. and then you apparently seem fashionable, because you swap between shapes every day depending on the job that you are doing and still look clean and neat even when you are covered in sawdust so I figured I'd drop that hot tip in the chat because it sort of flummoxed me that I'd accidentally stumbled on something that kind of seems universal in hindsight it's apparently not about individual pieces at all, but how you assemble them idk why it seems revelatory, but in the world of fast fashion I think it's something that I sort of forgot or somethin'

Hi! I have been lurking here for a few months now, your channel pretty much became my dopamine shot! I personally love the more fashion content! 🥰 Those of us who went down the Kibbe rabbit hole I think instantly perked up when you said that you don’t understand the need to break up the silhouette. 😅 The main concept of that system is to honor your personal line and not force yourself into an hourglass shape, for people who have a long vertical line (and you would be in that category I believe - but not an expert) the guy specifically recommends to not break the silhouette in an obvious way in order to bring it into focus (so celebrating it instead of hiding it 😉). It’s cool that you naturally gravitate towards this style, i always loved your monochromatic outfits! I also mostly gravitate towards that, i would say my outfits are more on the tonal end… the brightness level depends on my mood. But the tonal aspect just creates more intrigue and mystery for me, I love it when outfits get more interesting the closer you get to a person. This is why I prefer low contrast patterns for myself as well. :D I hope it’s not too forward but I have a style channel recommendation for you, not because you need it but because you might enjoy it as well based on your videos. It’s called Style Thoughts by Rita, I think her concept is very cool and I wonder what your opinion would be! I really enjoy your analytical mindset. :D

I learned that I have already been wearing monochromatic outfits but I could do better! I will try all of these ideas you shared.

I love doing the one statement piece! It gives me a chance to really relish in its beauty and confirms why I was drawn to that piece, and why I purchased it. That kind of wardrobe piece deserves its own day out on the town!

LOVE this fashion content and how diverse the models are. Very inspiring! I’m gonna try the chunky sweater with a maxi dress look today!

Love this content. The flowy dress with chunky knit is something I used to do a lot back in the noughties. I love wearing statement boots/accessories with an otherwise casual unassuming outfit. Monochrome is something I haven't really had the guts to try but you've given me the confidence to give it a go :)

I was actually inspired by one of your other fashion videos to wear a voluminous knit and a long flowier skirt and it was so cute the next day my friend subconsciously wore almost the exact same outfit with clothes from their own wardrobe! It's especially great in these awkward transition weather times when I want spring clothes but also to stay warm

THANK YOU! I’ve been in love with monochromatic looks my whole life, especially creams. I stopped wearing them years ago when my daughter told me it was too “old lady”. (She was 16) I’ve revisited this look recently and am obsessed. Even she approves of some of my looks. (Now she’s 27). I’m excited to have stumbled onto your channel and can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos. I’m a hairstylist/makeup artist, so I’m thinking I will enjoy all of it.

I LOVE this video so much! As soon as I finished watching I immediately ran up to my closet and starting pulling outfits to photograph for future wearing (or immediate wear as it turned out)! Even though I'm only going to work today (where I change immediately into surgical scrubs for the day) I'm choosing to wear a monochromatic black look with oversized chunky turtleneck paired with a black, pleated asymmetric handkerchief maxi skirt and knee high lug sole boots :) Sure, I"m only wearing it to walk in and out of the hospital, but I'm going to look fab for those few minutes today! Thank you for the inspiration!
