Probably just a coincidence, but I feel like theres something fishy about the Morag Tong being called the Forester's Guild, considering they are associated with Maphala and one of the names of her brother is Herma-Mora or "The Woodland Man".
@marshallscot
@marshallscot 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very thematic name for them I think given their business. It is a common practice in forestry to use controlled burns or cutting down specific trees to prevent large forest fires and to promote new growth. Basically put, selective culling in order to protect the ecosystem as a whole.

In Nordic culture, Mora is known for kidnapping people into the woods where they are never seen again. So the name of the Morag Tong is probably supposed to be an on the nose euphanism, i.e. they'll "take you to the woods".

Sotha Sil is honest, but reclusive and thus mysterious. Vivek is a walking paradox, where lies and truth are indistinct yet out in the open for all to see. Almalexia is as honest as Sotha Sil and as public and open as Vivek. She's seemingly straightforward, but under the cover she's anything but. Almalexia doesn't lie - she makes her arbitrary will into reality.

If the night mother was Malphala all along, it would make sense in more than one way. She's a very tidy Prince. Having both the Morag Tong and Dark Brotherhood would ensure she can clean up improperly placed strings and strengthen the ones she prefers. Which does what only Malphala could know. Also should this be revealed to any Grandmaster of the Morag Tong or any Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, they wouldn't change anything about it anyway. If the Nigh Mother is a lie, it is a sacred lie, and therefor a sacred truth to her will that must be upheld. What Listener would stop loving the Night Mother regardless of her true name, and what Grandmaster would challenge her? None that would live long or make any impact. She would tidy up that broken string quickly enough simply using her other, making her lie more truth in the process.

Maybe the ebony blade is essentially Mephala's whispers amidst the song of the et'ada; her strum of discord distorting and arresting reality around it. The skyforge is thought to be a holdout from the dawn era, so its their song made manifest in its pure form, but the ebony blade is a discordant wave whose staying power increases with a higher level of disruption(each life its own note, falling into the waveform of the blade as their sound is taken in.) An accoustic black hole if you will

There's an anthropological theory that the ability to lie or deceive effectively is actually necessary for the development of larger groups, which would have put an evolutionary pressure on early humans to develop in that direction. A certain degree of deception is required to basically "keep the peace" within civilization. Edited for spelling.

A lie turned a bad situation into a favorable Skyrim during the Dark Brotherhood questline. Cicero tell you not to kill him and "lie" to Astrid about killing him. When the questline concludes, Astrid confesses to betraying you. You kill her and now have an experienced and alive Cicero to help rebuild the brotherhood. The Dark Brotherhood also deals in lies and plots. Changing the course of empires throughout Tamriel's history. Which coincidentally leads a thread of webbing to Dagon's sphere being that revolution occurred (the attempted destruction of the Dark Brotherhood & it's reformation) and change was brought about due to the actions of the brotherhood (the assassination of Tidus Mead III) in Skyrim.

I have no idea why my comment has been deleted twice. Shadowmarks are very straightforward; there's not really enough material for them to make a whole podcast out of it, because there's nothing to really speculate on.
@williamclose6978
@williamclose6978 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheScienceguy77 I honestly did not know that it was so straightforward. I still can get surprised every now and then and find a shadowmark somewhere I missed on a previous play through. I guess I would like to have a podcast about the real life historical references of it's use in many geographically and culturally different societies, and how that influenced the games development. Further more, I had not played Oblivion or Morrowind in a long time, so I can not recall if the shadowmarkers we're prevalent in them. I do not know why your comment kept getting deleted, but thanks for your feedback.
@TheScienceguy77
@TheScienceguy77 2 жыл бұрын
@@williamclose6978 I agree that it would be cool to hear about them in relation to the real markings they were inspired by in a Thieves Guild centric podcast. One thing that is funny about them and is open to speculation is that you still perform Thieves Guild jobs in homes/businesses that have a "protected" Shadowmark, even though you shouldn't. I could be wrong, but I don't think they were ever in Oblivion or Morrowind. They're a recent addition to the Thieves Guild in the 4th Era.

*"Greetings Fudgemuppet, splendid Podcast... I believe one set in the Dawn Era would be a spectacle. Have you guys ever considered fusing all creation myths together to make one grand story?"* (On a side note about what you guys said at 16:15) Makes you wonder... maybe Ysgramor used this tactic, and vamped it up to 11/10. Just to clarify, Ysgramor wasn't actually at Saarthal when it was sacked and burned, and accounts of Ahzidal makes it known that everyone was either dead or gone, and the Snow Elves didn't kill all the humans in Skyrim either, so whatever happened that Night of Tears, is still shrouded in mystery. Ysgramor also never mentions or alludes to the Eye of Magnus at all, and we also know for a fact that it wasn't just 500 Companions who pushed a race to Extinction, since one of the ships sunk on its way to Skyrim, and a few died retaking Saarthal. Meaning it wasn't even 500, it was less, some already killed by a handful of Snow Elves in a single Settlement. Lots of holes in the story, and a lot of extra info many fans never look into. Gelebor's own accounts are also important as well. Whether you think he's evil or a hero, Ysgramor really pulled a 200 IQ play that Mephala would've been proud of at the end of the day.

@@jasonsilvernail1450 Mara leaving the Aldmeri Pantheon after Lorkhan's defeat was unfortunate, but I'd hardly say Auriel was thoroughly cucked like you presume... I mean, Lorkhan got his ass beat afterwards, so I mean... it's not like Auriel let this insult go unpunished mate 🧐 Explaining Mara's true nature as a Wayward wife amongst many of the Pantheons on Nirn is important to remember. She may be a goddess of love and all that, but marriage? Any goddess so infatuated with love and all that probably shouldn't be considered as a good partner. Look at Mara in the Yokudan Pantheon? I'd say Auriel is better off without her as a wife, that's for sure.

Mephala's mimicry of the structure of Nirn in her realm of Oblivion is so cool and sparks a lot of different thoughts on why this is and how it might reveal her true motives. Loved the great discussion on lies and truth as well, her duality is so interesting, especially in the context of the Mundus and belief shaping truth and reality.

Can't help but think that her ultimate goals are the continuation of "the web", Lorkhan's world/Nurn. And the humiliation of the aedra, whom she openly mocks in her realm. I don't think that Nerevar or the Neraverine were Shezzarines, but similarly to how Vivec is a reflection or echo of Mephala, Nerevar may be a reflection or echo of Lorkhan. There are differences though. Almalexia and Vivec murder Nerevar, which could put Vehk and Ayem in positions similar to Anuriel and Trinimac. Or it could put Nerevar in the position of Trinimac/Lorkhan if Ayem and Vehk are still anticipated by Boethiah and Mephala.

I know you guys covered these topics separately, but it might be fun to make a video combining the stories of Molag Bal and Mehrunes Dagon. Molag Bal is the ultimate bully - but bullies become as such when they suffer humiliation and abuse themselves. It seems too perfect that Mehrunes Dagon and his overthrow of Lyg is Molag Bal's foundational insecurity. Honestly Molag Bal is just Tool's Prison Sex music video personified.

The spiral skein is an interesting fusion if theory and terror. On the surface it is filled with basically the elderscrols take on Dante's Inferno it certainly would be terrifying for any mortal to behold, but the underlying reason behind everything is the 'theory' that gives meaning to the terror.

I have a question that's been Burning in my mind if ANYONE can answer it. When working for the Thieves Guild in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, during the Ultimate Heist, you proceed to the Basement of the Imperial Palace.... So... What is up with all the HUGE items??? There's a Giant sized throne, magic ball, and A massive spiked bat-like weapon, and I have NO IDEA who they could've belonged to or the lore behind them! If anyone can shed light on this topic, It would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am coming to this way late as this has been sitting in my watch later for too long. But! You kinda missed a point about the Morag Tong and their Writes of execution. When someone partisans the Tong they must attach a excuse/grievance for the assassination, only if the grievance is acknowledged will it go ahead. The Write last for a year, if the target survives then they can not be targeted again for the same grievance.

Alexander the Great may not really have been much of a conqueror really. Kind of just took over an empire that already existed and ran it into the ground..... BUT spreading a single standardized dialect of Greek around was totally revolutionary! Plus the cultural exchange went both ways. A lot of compromise to synch up cultures is hard. We still live in a world of his students :)

It was more the diadochi that ran it into the ground with division lol since Alexander pulled the old classic "Died too early to state a clear successor" but it is really impressive the level of connectivity he gave the ancient world, the mark that was left by his decisions is astounding from east to west!

1:00:40 - I'm an old ass man. What you're talking about is the riddle of steel. See me I'm basing it on Conan the Barbarian- 'steel is not strong boy, flesh is stronger'. The antagonist in the movie then turns a bades one of his acolytes to come to him and she falls blindly to her death. The idea probably goes back way further than that flick but one can only learn based on what one already knows. "Speak to me in a language I can hear . . ." - TSP

I kind of see the three good daedra as kind of dark reflections to Kyne, Mara, and Dibella. Kyne and Boethiah are warriors and have a connection of love to Lorkhan/Shor. Mara and Azura are mother goddesses who crave love in some way, Mara craves the love of marriage, Azura wants all the love towards herself. Mephala and Dibella are mostly sex but Mephala is dark sex with lies, and Dibella more like premarital sex. These six goddesses seem to reflect eachother the good daedra almost being dark versions of the three Aedra goddesses. This is just a theory.

Very good. Food for thought: the Daedric Princes are all sinister, before Mundus the Daedric Princes and the Aedra were essentially all the same sort of people. I imagine that the true nature of the Aedra has to be sinister to some degree as well. May be a good topic to discuss. Like... What if the Divines were Daedric Princes? What would their realms be? Their spheres? Their artifacts? I can picture a Zenithar being obsessed with wealth and greed. Not solely in material objects, but in labor and a trade. Anything that would have some form of value to another being. He would collect all of these in his realm where they would be represented as a gold slate, ingot or coin that would be hammered on Zenithar's anvil and added to his collection. I could picture his realm like a large farm where Daedra toil and labor a never ending harvest. He offers trades to the denizens of Nirn where if they cannot meet his trade they are taken to his realm and added to his crops. Bodies reduced to ingredients to supply the harvest.

It is a fun thoguh experience, but the whole point that the Aedra were benevelont so they are supported the creation (some of them later doesn't liked thet but it is an another story) opposite to the Daedra Princes who were selfish and doeasn't wanted to working with each other and sacroficing themselfs at all.

I'm starting to wonder if Lorkan's deception was not the creation of Mundus but it's deconstruction. If you could put it all back together again you'd be able to see the true Mundus (which is what the elves are looking to do but don't realise the nuance) but right now it's split into vertical layers like a tower, like splitting light into different wavelengths. So Molag Bals realm is the actual Mundus/Nirn we all know and love, it's just a different shade/wavelength. In this respect, they may be gods but to change their realms in a way that suits them, they need to change the Prime (for lack of a better term) Mundus/Nirn also, so while may think an action makes no sense in our wavelength it manifests just fine in a Daedric Lord's realm. Apologies, that was a lot longer than expected. I also think that could also explain Dragon Breaks and how a soul moves between realms. A person may have a heart of gold but under the right circumstances, they develop or have been born with a streak of malevolence or spite, a person might get split in wavelength when they die, both the same person but now also different and now both in different realms.

Possible. In my view, Molag Bal is actually the prince of player characters. He sees the world in the same way we the player does, as a game for him to find personal amusement in. Such a sphere is closest to the true nature of the Orbis.
