As a chess computer collector myself, I also enjoy the many emulations of some of the best historical chess computers that are included. Of course, there are always things that can be improved. The software has received a couple of significant updates so far.

Actually, they do offer a higher quality, weighted set of pieces: computerchess.com/en/Executive-chess-piece-set-for-40-cm-Exclusive-chessboards/M829 But I chose the standard set, because I happen to like the German knight 🙂 It is good to have the option. When the DGT Revelation II was still in production, you could also choose the Timeless set or a more expensive one like Royal or Ebony.

wow...love it...i am the proud owner of a wooden dgt and dgt pi that is getting a little dated but would never sell. I like the look of some of these newer boards and their functionality. Wish dgt would would give us an upgrade at some point. Cheers

The Mephisto Phoenix is a joy to play with. I especially like the medium sized board with it. This is my favourite DGT board.: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnmUfHl3pK-sbas I use it to play against Stockfish most of the time (on a low level 🙂) and sometimes Zurichess. For online games I really do prefer the Millennium boards, though. Did you update your DGT PI to V3.2?

@@followyourpassion8378 Hi, and did upgrade some time ago to v3....not done the v3,2 yet....i play a very average level too...there is something about chess that i just cant get enough of...on a side note - just waiting for delivery of the chessnut go i have pre order.... really looking forward to a take anywhere board...cheers

Yes, it does work with the Exclusive board. It works with all Millennium boards that have piece recognition.

2:37 - I hear ghosts (contrary to seeing ghosts on the chessboard) - thanks for unboxing - i think that gaining elo in games against engine is not good of a measure because engines in the same position (usually) play the same moves that you can just learn how to refute :) eg. you can make a draw and against 3500 rated oponent you will become 3500 rated :) but you wont be able to win against garbage players :). Maybe it just plays garbage plys in the 1500 region i dont know.

Shredder actually does a good job of adapting to an Elo strength, it was playing at around 1200 in the moment you are refering to. But I get what you mean. On the Phoenix you have very different engines that can be set to an approximate Elo value. If you can beat them conistently at a certain rating, your chess against a human opponent will reflect that.

In this time how is it possible they make such a dull (and complicated) screen. Just like Millennium did with their computers. And I think €1200,- is a very big price.

Since the screen is mostly used for selecting or analysing, it works for me and it makes a lot of functionality accessible. To be honest, I really have to concentrate on the board to beat this thing. 🙂 I just glance at the screen to see the clock in timed games. As a collector, you know how hard it can be to track down those old chess computers in good working order. So I really appreciate having a variety of them available on a modern board.

So Millennium and Mefisto are not the same company products? Do you remember the spanish scam company that was offering heavy weighted and electromagnetically flying pieces?

@@TymexComputing Mephisto today is a brand of Millennium. Yes, I remember Regium. It was a scam, however, an inspiring one... see all these electronic chess start-ups.

@@followyourpassion8378 Yeah - now i am seeing influencers with all these new plastic machines :), recently some "nuts" are being observed. To be honest at the time of regium i was thinking that all of that is feasible - the high speed trains are using EM forces to move along - but i estimated that the "working" example should weight at least around 3-4 KG so that all of the pieces could move along at the same time :) with the presented speed and weight of a single piece :)
