Being deliberate with what you intend to do and how is surprisingly important, especially when you're trying to build up certain artistic skills! It takes a lot longer to come up with interesting compositions, color schemes, narratives or poses, but it makes a biiig difference! Looking forward to figuring out more of that in your video :)

My favourite letter is V. We had to assign letters to ourselves in primary one (so we could learn the alphabet easier). I went with V “Vase of Violets” cause I liked the colours (Letterland gang rise up). Plus, it was near the end of the alphabet, rather than the really popular letters at the start. Nowadays I like it cause it’s symmetrical, and is often associated with (v)illianous or (v)endictive characters. Plus, nostalgia. Like a connection(?) to my younger self. TLDR: orderly edge-factor

S is my favorite letter because when I was learning how to write numbers, I wrote the number 8 with two circles, and I was writing S one day and realized you could connect the line to make an 8. Writing 8 that way was so much easier than two circles, thank you letter S. Anyway, great video!!

fav letter is x because design-wise its used intentionally and unintentionally in so many designs and inspiration, the letter also has so many meaning ranging from xoxo (kisses and hugs) to x marks the spot to x cross it out.

This was a very useful reminder for me! I keep feeling underhwelmed bby my art and looking back at it now, I think it's cause I avoid making specific decisions about lineweight, shape, etc. I'll try to focus more on that in the future!! My favourite letter is probably either I or J, I because it's the start of my name but also J cause it's the start of my best friend's name and I like the fact that they're next to each other in the alphabet :D

I started implementing this as I was watching and I see the difference. It’s crazy! Literally just deciding, okay this character is mean so sharp shapes, scary face, mean pose, emphasise one point etc. Most of the time I’m just drawing, not being intentional and specific 😭 this was a great video!

An unexpected, but very insightful advice, thank you very much! I personally I love different types of arts, so choosing a specific path and cut off unnecessary details always made the other path shine brighter. I will definitely try and apply more thought in my tremendously impulsive drawings :) My favourite letter is actually Z, as opposite to my initial (A) and due ro its form and sounds, and it's rarity in our names (my art name starts with a Z)

My favorite letter is X It's mostly because it looks cool, but also because I have an X shape on my left palm made by veins. Funny enough the letter X made its way not just into my art, but my writing too. Back in 8th grade I taught myself to write an X instead of a dot for i and j and it actually stuck. I still do it to this day. And in my art you'll often see an X for the main eyeshine ^^

I believe that you might understand me a bit. I am a 15yo artist and I really hope to work in the animation industry one day (Which as you may know, is mainly US centric), the thing is that I am brazilian and currently do not have the means to enter one of those top animation colleges, like CalArts or Gobelins. Would you have any tips for an outsider to enter that kind of market, or things that I can do now that may help me to achieve this later? I would be so glad if a great artist like you could maybe answer me on that one. Also my favorite letter is A, generic I know, but it's the first letter of my name so I really like it.

Thank you for your kind words!! In terms of wiggling your way into the industry, the three most important things you need are: 1) A PORTFOLIO. There’s plenty of online resources to help you learn art. Clearly by being in this comments section, you already know that! 2) A NETWORK. It’s important to try and meet fellow artists - this can be online, at a convention, emailing recruiters/studios etc. you don’t necessarily need a social media presence but it can be useful to connect with others. 3) KINDNESS. Skill can only get you so far. The most important way to maintain a good reputation is by being kind, hard-working and reliable. Show that you aren’t an asshole and people will naturally gravitate towards you :)

This is such an important yet rarely spoken about topic and so so useful- this is REALLY helpful for what I’m trying to achieve and while we are fortunate to have so many resources/tutorials it can be overwhelming as well as inadvertently fall into imitating rather than creating. Thank you. Also props for having to say specificity so many times. I like A because you can hide under the upper case version and climb through the lower case one.

A - It's the first letter of my name and of the alphabet, it looks pretty, it has a nice sound to it in every language, and oddly enough I see them as a strong independent woman who knows what they want. I'm currently doing a comic and I couldn't figure out the characters, I was being indecisive about everything, everytime I draw a circle I just press control z again haha then yesterday I decided to do it on paper using a pen. I don't really know what my favorite letter is, But i can defiantly tell you my least favorite: Q Q is a redundant letter that just doesn't belong in my opinion (I mean just look at the word "Queue" and tell me its valid, you can't, It's five letters but only one of them make a sound) Also its the only letter that is must followed up by the letter "U" and nothing else (unless you're using a loan word from a foreign language) Ex: QUeue QUarter QUart QUaint QUill eQUip eQUal

This advice has become even more relevant with the increased prevalence of AI art generators: while the machines can be impressive, and sometimes very interesting, they are usually very "broadstrokes/generic" in their output: you need to be very very specefic in your promting or patient to get something that is close to what you were thinking of. Human made proffesional art is currently way more specific and interesting than AI art, and i can often tell by specific details that a skilled artist made it, and wasnt spat out by a AI.
