I'll take the fees please! Can't be worried about returns, if nothing is selling. Even if I adjust prices to help mitigate the cost for buyers, there's no way around the bitter flavor of deception on the buyers end when they see they're not getting a great deal afterall. Hopefully this IS a good thing, but it really looks like Mercari is self sabotaging.

If you have not updated your listings the buyer will see the old price setup until you or Mercari updates the listing. Just updated/relisted 30 items, got an offer on a $90 item @ $75, I accepted, they asked me to cancel because they did not know about the additional fees. 3 hours notice in the middle of the night is very unprofessional.

I''ve been selling on mercari around 4 years now and I'm unhappy about the changes. I think there's going to be a drop in sales just because of buyer psychology. There are definitely buyers who will buy from a higher priced listing with free shipping rather than a lower priced listing with shipping and multiple fees tacked on. I don't know how many buyers there are on mercari who belong to the former group vs the latter group. But don't forget, the fees aren't actually shown in the listing when buyers are shopping and comparing prices. They're shown at checkout and I can see some people getting sticker shock when they put items into their cart and then getting surprised by a bunch of extra fees. My other question is about the returns, if they are making the sellers pay for the returns then your fees selling on Mercari may be a lot higher than just paying the $2 deposit fees. In the end it's going to depend on what category you sell in and whether you expect to pay for a lot of return labels. Yeah returns are a cost of doing business but I sell clothing and some retailers are starting to charge buyers for returns so clearly the cost is too high for them too. You sell a lot of large items so I'd be concerned about how Mercari is going to generate the return labels and how much you are going to pay in return shipping. Are they going to let sellers upload their own labels? It's not clear to me.

Exactly the fees aren't shown in the listing until the last page, this is why my buyer canceled on a $75 item today and I don't blame them.

​@@FloridaNative59Yeah I already saw a seller on another site post a screenshot of a buyer cancelling because they bought a $350 item and didn't realize they were going to be paying over $400. I guess they didn't notice the fees on the last screen at checkout. Idk, I just don't feel like dealing with drama over buyers regarding fees because I had all my items already priced to include fees and allow offers.

I gave them my favorite response of what are you willing to pay and please remember when you go to check out Mercari will add another 13% on top of that. They had no clue of course because it does not show on the listing. I have sold 551 items on Mercari in a little over 2 years this is a bridge to far I'm afraid, Ebay is just so much better in so many ways.

Seems like the sellers will bail on eBay and the buyers will bail on mercari so the ones that are left on eBay will be doing pretty good and get more money. I think it’s a bad idea overall since the sellers on mercari will now have to lower prices to be at the same price for the buyer they were at before so it’ll be a net breakeven. But you as the seller will have to now figure out how much the buyer will pay before taxes so your competitive on other platforms just a thought. But I wouldn’t buy on mercari if I’m paying extra to get my stuff. To me as a buyer I’d be thinking I’m now paying 12-15% extra on all my purchases just so I can have free returns. When as a buyer you can return anyways if you don’t get the item you ordered as it was supposed to be listed as. I don’t have buyers remorse on items so yeah not paying extra for that

I agree on learning brands that sell. Found a SaladMaster griddle with no handle at small thrift store. I knew the brand from KZbin videos and purchased it for $2. Looked up griddle and saw that it sold for $45 without handle and over $200 with handle so I bought a new handle for $18.50 shipped on EBay. I listed and sold for $255 in less than a week of receiving the handle. Great return and fast sell through. It helps to learn what brands sell!

I made two purchases on Mercari. On $6 it charged me .30 plus .82. On a $22.50 purchase I paid $1.80 and 1.39. Pretty steep. Added more than $3 to the cost of the item.

Even if some buyers are put off by this, it will bring more sellers. With more sellers there will be more items which in turn will bring in the buyers.

More sellers leads to lower prices. Supply and demand. I’d there are more sellers then buyers then price drops. Without buyers you have no sellers. Less sellers equals more sales for the ones there are and higher sales since there’s nothing to compare it to.

Jake, I have been meaning to ask you for quite a while now; why would you leave your money in eBay’s Bank for 7 days when you have the option to take your money every day and earn 3-4% in your Business Checking account? Most of you young guys have said the same thing regarding getting a payout once per week. Makes 0 sense. Make me understand.

I'm the same age as him and I have daily payouts on ebay and request transfer every day on my other platforms. Not that I'm that great at managing my money but I sure don't trust some random ecommerce platform with it. No company is really too big to fail.

@@suzannem9970if you have a business act from your bank you get charged per transaction weather that’s buying items or deposits. I do once a week to have only 4-5 transactions a month on deposits I also just use my eBay card to buy stuff on eBay and make one payment to eBay card with my business act. So that way I don’t have 50-100 transactions each month. Also can you explain where you get 4-5% interest on your money on any bank? Last time I had this was 20 years ago. Also they require a minimum to have in your act at all times. Plus I pay a month fee for the business act based on the number of transactions. Plus I don’t need 30 deposits each month when 4/5 is plenty. Easier to keep track of how much you’re making as well. IMO

Doesn’t make any difference, if buyers have to pay extra fee then they will pay less . So not like seller will gain anything. You pay fee and get higher selling price or not paying fee and get lower selling price. Customer are smart, they aren’t paying extra and be ok with it

I tried crosslisting, I dislike the having to weigh my items and calculate all the shipping ahead of time. Just a preference thing. This no fees however may make me rethink that strategy!

I think the transfer fees instead of seller fees are a great tradeoff. I am concerned about the returns. If I sell a NIB item, and the buyer returns a used item in my new box, I want to know how Mercari handles that.

3 day return policy is great. That protects buyer if seller lied about the item, and there are some cons out there. Ebay has 30 day returns but you can on out. When someone knows they have 30 days the will wear a dress a couple times and then return it if they are low on money. That's bad.

please do a video on shipping with the different platforms. I create all my listings on eBay and use calculated shipping. when I crosslist to mercari I import those shipping details and always pick the cheapest shipping method. it would be hard for me to pause and figure out a shipping price and then raise my price with shipping built in. that's also been a problem for me when I offer free shipping period.... because if I accept offers that's taking money off the profit but I still have to pay for shipping.

I did not like selling on Mercari long before they changed their policies. I closed my seller account because their customer service for sellers was sh*t. Very disappointed with them & it was a huge waste of time to post my listings on that dumpster fire of a site!

I just sold some size 15 Merrell shoes on Poshmark in one day. T1hey had been on ebay 6 months. I believe it didn't sell on ebay because shipping was so much higher.

It’s free to withdraw from eBay weekly they have some special or promo where 3 one time withdrawals are free as well but. I’ve never needed it. Once a week free is good with me. As a buyer we don’t like hidden fees while it would be nice as a seller to get more money ultimately sellers will now have to lower all the prices to cover the fees the buyers will be paying to compete back with eBay Amazon etc etc. in the end it’s all about total cost so adding 15% to the buyer will lead them to more then likely either leave and or just shop around lounger then buying unless he deal is to good to pass up. Why would a buyer pay 28 on Merceri when they can get the same item for 23-24 on eBay? U less they just don’t use that platform just a thought. In this scenario the after lowering all the prices of items it’ll be a net wash just won’t see any fees on the selling and.

If Mercari is investing held funds in stocks then get out now, that would be incredibly stupid. Now if you told me they want to hold the funds longer In interest bearing accounts I would understand. Also where are you getting your information on deposit fees? Venmo doesn’t charge as long as you don’t select expedite. THAT is standard on all platforms

Yea, but .50 plus 2.9% on product and shipping plus some states have tax!!!! If secretly (ha) you do have a connection tell them it is too much. Can't wait to hear how your experiment goes. Still how can they charge the 2.9% on shipping it is already to high.

For me personally the direct deposit fee is irrelevant. I have only made 20 sales in the 9 months since I opened the account. So whatever I earn selling I use to buy more merchandise for eBay 😅 I suppose I will start cross listing to Mercari again now that there are no fees. I have only 75 listings on Mercari and 1600+ on eBay. 400 on poshmark.

Most people seem to not get it. I really don’t understand why people are mad about a 2 dollar withdrawal fee. So now we have zero selling fees. Basically 14 percent selling fees are gone. So if you sell just 20k a year you will be saving thousands.
