This video is about a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II driven by Keke Rosberg during the 1992 DTM championship. The car is powered by a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine with around 340 bhp at 8800 rpm and a total weight of only 990 kgs.

That's arguable, IMO best sounding 4cyl is SR20, but single turbo, properly built hondas are amazing, this engine has such sound because of ITB's, possibly has trumpets on it, that's why it has that sound, correct me if I'm wrong..

Thanks Bozzy and friends for this blast from the past. I used to watch this racing series heavily, back in the early to mid 90s. The DTM or as it was translated to us, German Touring Car Championship was so awesome! So cool that you got footage of this beautiful car with the original driver fitted as well.😉 I remember watching KeKe Rosberg battle it out with the likes of Frank Biela, Hans Stuck, Klaus Ludwig, Nicola Larini, Bernd Schneider, and many other legends of the sport. Amazingly, that Mercedes is still packing a punch even 25 years later.💪 Great car with an awesome soundtrack!😍 That intake noise is so badass! Thanks for bringing joy to these old ears. Cheers!🙌

19Bozzy92 You're welcome, sir. The DTM series was one of the most competitive, interesting to watch auto racing series that I can remember. Most people over here (US) at that time watched NASCAR and for some it was IndyCar. Not me. I was totally fascinated by German Touring Car Championship, British Touring Car races and I loved WRC back the 90s. I wish I could have witnessed these cars in person though. You are a fortunate man, Bozzy, but as I see it, you are making your own fortune.😉 Glad you got to catch one of these machines in action. Bravo, mate. Have a great day!🙋

Just to clear up the specs a little bit here. Mercedes quotes the Evo II with 274kW (367 bhp) at 9500rpm in their museum. Most 190's you see in historic competition are not even close to these numbers as they don't want to rev that high and it is a common practice to run a stock 190E head instead of the DTM Evo head. On the stock head each cylinder has two round intake channels, while the DTM head has one large oval shaped intake channel. These heads were only made for DTM, so the quantity is very rare - unless of course you have it fabricated.

DTM before they went bankrupt and a spiritual successor that doesn't even have the same name was founded. Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (German Touring-Car Championship) folded in 1996 due to high costs. Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (German Touring-Car Masters) was founded in 2000. The modern DTM cars are merely Silhouettes. But faster than GT3 cars even.

I don't know exactly when the MK1 evo was made, 1985 I think? But the 4AGE was designed in 1982, and went in production in 1983.

Bergerkes development on this engine dates back to the 70s then in 1980/81 cosworth started developing it for rallying but as the audi Quattro was launched at the same time and showing that 4wd was the future of rallying they built the 190e cosworth for circuit racing instead, either 83 or 84 i think the first one was made before they opened them out to 2.5l for the evo/evo2 Like the cosworth yb and the e30 m3 engine, they were based on an already old engine. The cosworth yb went on sale in 86-96 but being based on the pinto designed in the late 60s.
