my mechanic just tried to charge me over a grand to do this job... im so angry that i paid for towing to his shop instead of just to my house. he tried to tell me that the fuel tank had to be dropped to do it. i may be a girl, but i aint stupid. however getting that plastic ring on the outside unscrewed from a robot factory seal... holy cow! i would suggest getting a spanner wrench and be sure to push those pins in all the way or it will not work. my benz had the original fuel pump with 220,000 miles. unreal!

I have the same car and it has a problem where when I start it the car it hesitates and idles bad and shuts itself off and stalls itself out I’m thinking that the fuel pump went bad so I’m gonna look into it

Is it safer to do this with a close to full tank of gas to reduce vapors? I see a lot of people do this on an almost empty tank but I would think that is more unsafe.

Awesome video thank you! Do you know how to test if it's actually the fuel pump itself that's bad rather than a problem with the wiring, relay, controller/computer etc? I know for sure that my engine is not getting fuel, but I don't know if it's the pump itself that failed or some other component that the pump needs to work.

autopartsnw, sorry for not looking at my question, the one about the 2007 Mercedes I'm not sure but if you look under neath the back seat and find the two slot, most possibly it will be able to be changed the same way just make sure before you do anything. Disconnect the battery ground post first To check if your fuel pump is pumping fuel trace the fuel line to the engine and disconnect your line and observe while you turn your key on if fuel is being discharged from the line

I changed my fuel pump the same you did after pump failure, and all went well. I have a question though, my fuel gauge was erratic before the replacement and even after the replacement, could this mean the other sending unit need change as well? When I fill the tank (full), it reaches just above 3/4...

Kevin Honde yes if your sending unit for the fuel level is acting up it the other unit that has gone bad as well, the electric reader that gauges your fuel may be corroded and not reading accurately or the floater is broke

You forgot to align the pump properly, very important to avoid the floater get stucked. There's a little tiny point mark on the plastic. The arrow must point exactly to this, otherwise, there's a risj the floater get stuck with the hoses inside.

when removed neg battery cable does the car still maintain power? if not, wouldn't it loose the computer's memory?

to your first question no because once the batt is not grounded the batt is dead,it needs a good ground to be able to put out 🔋 power,the positive is not live or putting out if it doesent have its ground,as for the memory the only memory that is gonna be wiped out or reset is your OBDII system,which will then reset after power cut off,they do this so you cant pull a easy trick before running your emissions scan while getting your inspection sticker,once reset it takes anywhere from 55 to 80 miles(may be more) for the system to fully be ready for a full emissions report to be stored in your car,then the inspection station is ready for your results,if u have stored codes,they will come back,some right away,some 150 miles down the road,some more miles down the road,u can cheat a code or 2 undetected if u do a full reset before getting your sticker,if u have a slow gas vapor leak somewhere for example(a evap related code,bad gas cap,a bad fuel solenoid,a gas vap leak big or small),it may pass at its 80 mile mark u get a sticker 👍,but expect those codes to come back some miles later.

i know this is a old video, but that fuel return line didn't clip on properly. You should've pryed the clip that holds it in back a little and thenpush it in all the way. I'm not saying it will come off now but i wouldn' t trust that connection.
