Screens instead of buttons are an ergonomic disaster. The car is not a mobile phone... or arcade game.. When MB made cars for adults a long time ago they would never have done anything of this distracting form before function nonsense even if they would have had the possibility. Now its like.. lets make it as distrcting as possible to operate basic functions.... because it "looks" or "feels" cool.

There is a kind of infantilism going on with car designs. Things like fake exhausts, massive stupid looking grills and radios that blurt out the sound of a V8 engine because they made the car so quiet with half a ton of sound insulation.

Own an EQE 350+ SUV. LOVE the car, driving range, versatility, comfort, etc., but HATE the “touch” buttons. Too easy to brush a hand across multiple buttons on the steering wheel and suddenly you’ve changed radio stations, volume, menu display, etc. Very annoying! Give us back the micro-switch style controls! Had way better control and premium “feel” - some of the “touch” buttons feel so cheap (ex. Driver Memory buttons!)

Currently own a 2021 E53 and getting ready to upgrade . I love the idea of mercedes adding a camera for zoom/teams call. People who own these cars are all about making money and are constantly on the move and if I can now safely have a business meeting while on the road, I'm all for it!

Making money is important, but not more important then the lives of others and yourself. I can’t imagine having a zoom call while driving is a good idea as making a handsfree phone call already gets people distracted enough to get into trouble! Using while stationary is something else of course.

Just got a Merc - CLS53 a few weeks ago and your videos are great. Very articulate and precise. Wanted to share a tip for when Apple CarPlay is operational. This is to change tracks when listening to Music. In the drivers screen set the Center screen to Media and select source as your phone (not Bluetooth) and that gives you a quick option to change songs. Hope this helps share with others.

Saw the CLE at Mercedes Southampton and at first glance it does not look much bigger than my C43 Coupe. However, legroom is distinctly more in the back and the central digital display is awesome.

Ah nice! Well you need a thing called Augmented Reality first to be able to add it to a car. The first video of 2024 is on this exact topic (what to look out for and what cars it’s compatible with) But yes you need MBUX and Augmented reality to start And you! Merry Christmas! 🎄

There are loads of things you can do get the most range out of a car which I have a few videos about on my channel. Bur for the range topping over 300 miles, those sadly are on the newer ones. They have a larger battery and some modifications (I believe) to the electric motor so it’s not exactly the same.

Hi nothing to do with the excellent video, but I have just purchased the new A class facelift model and the direction side indicators are silent. Took it back to Mercedes and they told me that all Mercedes have silent indicators and there is nothing they can do. Have you any info on this

I was hoping for Mercedes C class E.V. to come out but I do like the look of the Smart # 3 . I suspect that the garage that I use to look after my wife's A 35 won't be able to deal with a Smart car because they are not a main dealer. My BMW i4 M50 has a digital key but I have to bothered to set it up.

Thank you! No sadly not, if I hear anything that I’ll post about it, but the EQE SUV has only just come out. I doubt it’ll change for a few years at least! Cars often get upgrades every 6-7 years with a facelift halfway in between. Specs of course can be updated yearly but multimedia system generations will most likely be on facelifts. If I hear any updates from Mercedes then I’ll be sure to post about them! 🤓

I have purchased the dashcam too and wish I hadn’t. Mine is NTG6. Should’ve looked into it more. I hate the manual start you have to do. It takes me more than 1 minute of driving before it’s willing to start recording. Also had the same issue as another person mentioned, where although it’s on loop recording, it wouldn’t record as memory was full 🤷🏼‍♀️. I do have it set up as a favourite, after watching your video Nick. Much less of a faff to start the recording process 🙂. In hindsight wish I had gone with a 3rd party one. If Mercedes offered a 1 week trial before purchase I think a lot of people would decide to not purchase it! Only plus is nothing is stuck to your windscreen. I don’t think it’s clear enough footage for the money you pay for it either. Just my opinion.

Ah fair enough, just again wanted to check out the dashcam on MBUX NTG 7 and see if there are any changes. It’s an awesome neat solution but again I include the footage on here back to back against my actual camera so everyone can see the quality difference. A trial would be a good idea but they do have a 14 day cooling off period too.

@@npoleary Yes, there were limitations on phone models AND the SIM card (Vodafone was one of them or the only one). It worked really well though! I would like to see an implementation like this again and also the support of Apple Carkey.

I was talking to my dealer about building out a 2024 E-450 for my wife and he told me about some of that. But so far, I'm not that excited about it. The packages that my wife wants are at least $1000 more per package from the existing 2024 specs online. In the case of the multi-contour seats much more. Apparently they took away the burlwood that my wife likes too and I can't yet actually see which wood trim is available. So this transition is just making it so that we can't move on what we can see and we can't see what they're offering. I'm not excited about AI integration, despite (or maybe because of) being a software engineer. Neither is my wife. The routines thing sounds cool but all the rest of the multimedia stuff isn't that exciting for us. I suppose other people are more enthusiastic about it. Looking forward to seeing your reviews about it though! Thanks.

I’ll check it out when I get my hands on one! Mercedes do announce models usually 6 months before they actually start to appear in showrooms in the UK. Not sure what it’s like elsewhere though, timings might be slightly different 👍🏼

Possibly but not all dealerships have them I think it was planned for early 2024 but a couple arrived sooner from what I’ve heard. Hopefully I’ll get my hands on one soon!

I’ve been considering the GLC Coupe for my next car but there are some infuriating, really annoying things regarding the configurations sold in the U.K. For example you can’t have one of the regular cars with the Night Package (I hate the chrome accents on the regular cars - enough that it would stop me buying it). However the most perplexing thing is that we don’t get DC fast charging on the plug-in hybrids (why). I live in an apartment so cannot have a wall box, however with a 20 min DC charge time the hybrid would still be a serious option - for example, could easily be charged on a trip to the supermarket. The fact that we only get AC charging, with a charge time of over 2 hours means it’s a non-starter. More confusingly the website lists the cars as having DC charging, but the latest brochure (December 2023) lists only AC charging. After calling Mercedes and having a chat with a rep they confirmed that the car does indeed only have AC charging. Add to that the other features that are missing that mainland European cars get…and it’s a pretty poor showing from Mercedes.

Ah awesome very nice! I’ve not had chance to produce a video on the GLC Coupe yet but the SUV version is super luxurious! Sadly specs do vary round the world, which is why I try not go through them too much when checking out the cars but of course charging speeds etc is something I would cover. Not sure why it’s not DC here in the UK, but DC charging is usually only found on cars that have a really large battery pack like 50kWh and upward on EV’s in Mercedes from what I’ve seen. If it’s not good though, they’ll be other options, that’s why there are so many models out there to choose from 🤓

It's such a disgrace that car makers somehow think it's acceptable not to provide upgrades to their OSes with newer features (within reason, I know you can't make up for missing hardware) , even though cars are many times more expensive than phones

OTA updates are provided to cars 👍🏼 I’ve seen games and things added to Mercedes multimedia systems via Mercedes me over the past few years. MBUX NTG 7 never launched with some features and they’re no available since I covered it at the start. But it depends how focussed car manufacturers are on software, each one will do it slightly different and I love checking out how each one does it and sharing it with everyone. Car manufacturers will never be able to replicate an App Store like a phone though, as cool as it might be, getting developers on board to make apps for each specific resolution of each screen in every car would be every difficult. What would you like to see added to cars? 🤓

Well I’d imagine that it would quite simply be an audio call (from the driver’s point of view). I would presume it would show video when in park too 😅 I will defo check it out!

I was very disappointed with the new S Class design and it looks like Mercedes is continuing along that line. A nice software update to the 2018 COMAND system was all I'd hoped for. Instead the car is becoming a rolling smart home, which is just not for me. The electric vehicles also fail to capture me in the same way the older models did, following that generic Tesla exterior look. I wish them continued success but I don't see how I'd be able to buy another Mercedes, which is sad as the overall quality is unmatched.

Hey @GunnyPhillips, Oh really? I really enjoyed checking out that car some time ago. Yes as you said modern cars overall these days are very tech oriented which is what I love covering. But don’t let that put you off, I’ve chatted with many people on here who simply “just want to drive” and enjoy the car for what it is and don’t use every features offered. Most importantly you can do just that, yes there might be a lot of screens etc but when it comes to S-Class, they drive beautifully (somehow even better than the one before). Do check it out like a test drive for an afternoon or something if a dealership offer it. They have designs on the screen that can minimise distractions like a thing called “Understated” which just show you minimal info. What model / brand are you considering as well?

@@npoleary Thanks for the reply, Nick! When I'm next in the market I'd consider a 2020 S Class but likely nothing newer as I think that's when the redesign occurred. Don't get me wrong, I'm an engineer so I love tech until it is used to fuel a superfluous arms race with other manufacturers, which seems to be the case in the luxury auto segment.

@@npoleary If the driver can't watch the video stream (at least until he's in park), then it would make more sense. I know how involved MB is in driver safety systems which is why when I thought of making Zoom calls while driving, I was quite surprised!

Merc quality is bad, n the car don’t drive well compare to bmw. Having lights n screen with engine downsizing is not what the cust wants.

To help everyone make the right choice when buying a car, this is why I cover more brands than just Mercedes now! So I do cover BMW as of last summer too! Now it'll take time before I can give honest reviews about the two but from what I've seen, it's what you like and what you're after. I find Mercedes to be super smooth and luxurious and very safety oriented with awesome designed interiors. BMW's are also very luxurious with high quality materials everywhere and offer some tech that even Mercedes don't even have! As with different brands, they just do things differently but one thing that all manufactures are doing is making engines smaller (but keeping the horsepower's still very competitive 😎).
