Hi Nick, thank you so much for your great videos - it really helps understand and feel the Mercedes car much better! I have a question regarding CLA Shooting Brake PlugIn - it starts always in EL mode, and drives EL mode till battery is over, then switching into Hybrid mode - but since the battery is empty, it is just a petrol drive from that moment, and since the petrol tank is pretty small (35 L) it is somehow annoying, from the moment battery is empty... Now, I know I can switch the modes everytime I turn on the car, but I was wondering is there some possibility to start the car in Hybrid, and not in EL? I mean to start in Hybid by default, and not swithing manually every time... Thank you for your advice, Rgds

After watching the video and most of the popular comments, I was shocked. I couldn't believe that a KZbinr in the automotive field, even in a developed nation like the UK, still had such a vast information disparity about Chinese cars. The car infotainment system shown in the video is no longer top-notch in the current Chinese auto consumer market. Nowadays, Chinese consumers might value intelligent driving more when buying cars. Some of the brands with better intelligent driving capabilities are Huawei, XPeng, and Li Auto. Huawei has already reached a stage where, during the daily commute, the intelligent driving system can almost operate without any human interference. (I attempted to send you the link, but KZbin will delete my comment. If possible, please search for "BV1qDkYYKELk" on Bilibili.) Also, I really admire your enthusiasm for replying to comments. Please keep it up. I'm sorry if there are any reading difficulties caused by the AI translation. Wish you a happy life.

Correction. Lithium Ion batteries are Lithium Ion batteries even if they are using Iron Phosphate, which is the safer compound to use. Nope - I would not consider a BYD. I drive an Tesla S - and am very happy with it. It is techically a better car than the BYD. BYD still has a lot of catching up to do, especially on the Programming side and motor efficiency. They are also not as efficient as TESLA in manufacturing.

Total Chinese junk. Horrible displays too, and oh, the Chinese really love their gimmicks don't they. If it doesn't fall apart first, they'll be worth about 50p in 3 years time, because £45k+ is a lot of money to pay for something that will have siesmic depreciation.

Just because it’s Chinese doesn’t mean it’s junk. The very device that runs my entire channel was “made in China”. The very device that I am messaging you on right now was “made in China”. The drone I own was developed and produced in China, simply put, I would not use anything else in any of those examples. There are cheaply electronics and cheap brands from China but also some very high quality products too. It’s just knowing what the differences are. Deprecation is with EV’s though, they all depreciate fast so work it in your favour and buy one a year old 🤓🙏 Pros and cons to everything!

@@npoleary I'm sorry, but it's true. The Chinese are very good at feeding the West what it wants - cheap products wrapped in something shiny. The West lap this stuff up for some reason, but under the hood, most Chinese products are cheaply made, mass produced at a scale we can't quite fathom and when we buy them, priced for Western markets. The Chinese like this, and we do nothing about it. Their cars are no different - full of useless gimmicks in a fancy wrapper but cheap and basically throwaway. The entry price of the Seal in China is around £22k, in the UK (and Europe) it's around £45k, and the UK don't even impose any tarrifs. I know a lot of Chinese car companies are heavily subsidised by the CCP, but even so, this says a lot.

Not that I’ve seen, why would they? No matter the manufacturer, you will always find the odd car out there that could have a slight issue. But the chances are so rare that it’s barely measurable. It’s just media and newspapers love to report on that sort of thing because it gets clicks with EV’s. Statistically speaking petrol cars are the worst and the most likely as they carry around flammable liquid.

That’s not something I would personally do on my channel. I’m sure there are other channels that would focus maybe more on that sort of thing. Plus they have a longer warranty than most here in the UK!

The car might be fine but the way it's being used to undermine domestic car companies is the problem. Sell VERY cheap cars to flood the EV market because the manufactures are subsidized by the Chinese government is a strategy to destroy competition. The other question is about repair costs and service of normal wear and tear items. how do the materials hold up in 5 years of use. Do the cars rust? How far can the car go on a charge and how quick to recharge? China is being very hostile to neighboring countries and Taiwan is threatened daily. Do any countries want to support that mentality by buying cars made in China? Limiting sales with tariffs might be the only way to slow the car wars effort from China. Just because it's pretty and cheap doesn't mean it's a smart choice. Support the local companies and the local people who live and work in your nation. Once they are put out of business they won't be coming back . Think carefully about the big picture and the future. The job you save might be your own. Art

Not into all this candy-assed technology- it is a car, not a house. Cut all this needless tech, I'd consider it for $20,000. Till then I'll keep my dependable 2012 Mercedes 250C Turbo Coupe with its limited tech and 485Sport mode to 495 econo mode mile range that start in hot and cold weather, oh and a gas station on every corner.

Awarding me? Absolutely nothing. That would be very immoral of me to call it a review if there was money involved. I’ve not taken a single penny for any of my videos on my channel, with the exception of the install of my Ohme home charger where they installed it free of charge. The rest, reviews, tutorials, tips, tricks are me thinking of ideas to film, contacting manufacturers and if they’re happy to, send me a car to review. The only thing I received from BYD is a pdf file with some key facts (if I chose to talk about those facts, range, prices, specs of the car I had). But I have my own template for reviews anyway. Might do a behind the scenes video somewhen to offer greater transparency for everyone of how videos are made and what goes into them to make them possible 🙏 but to clarify, absolutely no money from car manufacturers. Never have, never will.

The thing is these days media love to jump on the bandwagon and talk about an EV fire, expect I personally have seen 4-5 car fires this year myself none were an EV but were they in the newspapers or news? No. But if they were an EV, I would put money that they would be!

Can you explain the heated windshield wipers I can’t seem to find an answer to how they work on the internet
@npoleary
@npoleary 10 сағат бұрын
This would depend on your car’s specification, so on some Mercedes they have a heated windscreen washer system. This simply warms the windscreen washer fluid. Makes the wipers work more efficiently in the winter. For some high end cars like S-Class they have a thing called Magic Vision Control which has perforated holes in the wiper blade itself. I believe this is heated in itself but that might have a similar system to the one above.

The controls are below my knee How is that safe to use ? My centre vents work ! But take 4 seperate operations to get them to work I dare you to do a video thaf shows (with one switch ) how to turn on centre air vents
@npoleary
@npoleary 10 сағат бұрын
Most Mercedes allow you to operate it via the screen as well and you can certainly do it via voice so you don’t need to touch anything. In terms of getting the centre vents to work, yes it’s a few steps to turn them on manually if you really want warm air to come out of them. But I’m really curious, why are you overriding the auto function? Is there a reason you need warm air out of the front vents? Genuinely curious 🤓
@RodChampers
@RodChampers 10 сағат бұрын
@ the reason is I live in Scotland. So it’s really harsh winters. Vents coming from side only, mean you have one hand that is numb with cold. And this is the same hand your expected to press screen and operate functions with. Seems a shame to have centre air vents when they only blow air after quite a lengthy operation. I met a bloke in car park, like you, he said he just used AUTO function, but this again, doesn’t allow you to get central vents blowing decent warm air
@npoleary
@npoleary 6 сағат бұрын
Ah fair enough, if only Mercedes had heated steering wheels! 😅 So the reason why it does that (all Mercedes are the same) is that it aims to distribute the heat evenly across the cabin. So in summer you’re likely going to use cool air, so these will come out of the front vents. In the winter you’re likely to use warm air so instead of coming out of the centre vents, it comes out everywhere else. Sides, windscreen and most importantly below near your feet. This is because in a cold environment heat rises which naturally and most importantly evenly distributes it round the cabin. This is all on the Auto mode. But in this case yes if you do want it to come out of the centre vents then you’ll have to toggle off auto and manually select it. It should remember it for next time though.
@RodChampers
@RodChampers 3 сағат бұрын
@ it’s my 4th mercedes and easily the worst, not just for heating operation. Which by the way, on shorter winter journeys you don’t want to be waiting on AUTO heating car up. Just 20 mins ago, I had to pull over, stop car and go through the operation of turning on central vents… as it’s simply too dangerous to take eyes off road for amount of time required to turn them on. I’f tried saying ‘hey Mercedes turn on central vents’ but it doesn’t this, like many other commands - tried it before and it caled up an ex girfriend on phone ! It’s a design disaster - and yet my car comes with a multitude of functions that simply are not needed - not really, who needs a speed limiter ? Parking assist thaf scratches your alloys, 64 different coliurs internally - when you can’t get bloody warm ! What a disaster of car a 2022 GLB 35. Just read clasksons review - wish I’d done that before I parted with £40grand
