Do you have to break/cut the chain to remove the camshaft adjusters? Couldn’t you possibly just remove the tensioner remove the cam bolts and slide them out with some force? I’ve done it before on a 1.4 chevy cruze and I don’t see a difference in my logic
@fiily1 Жыл бұрын
I didn't have to break the chain, and your logic is right. Just remove the chain tensioner, and adjusters slide out as that is what I just did on mine.

Hey buddy I’m removing the timing cover to replace the water jacket o ring that’s cause water to mix with the oil . I’m finding that the chain guide pin on the intake side of the engine is extremely tight. I’ve attempted a slide hammer and it won’t even budge with it . I’ve tried to use a few washers as spacers with a bolt to help slide it out but no luck . It’s only a six mm thread and I don’t want to break nothing inside the hole of the pin . Any suggestions? Cheers Jorge

Is this the lower one that causes water to mix?
@country7216 Жыл бұрын
@@sciencegod1 No , its the upper one that is fragile and normally breaks and for some reason ends up somewhere on top of one of the 4 cylinders,its rubber so best thing is to get original ones from Mecerdes about $12 if not less, the work involved to remove the whole crankshaft cover just to replace $12 O - rings to avoid oil and water mix up is shocking.good luck

Is the 271 engine an interference or non-interference engine? If the chain breaks will the valves be bent
@Mateusz-en9ypАй бұрын
The M271 engine, used in various Mercedes-Benz models, is generally considered a non-interference engine. This means that if the timing chain were to break, the valves would not be in danger of colliding with the pistons, which would typically prevent bent valves. However, it's always a good idea to check the specific engine variant and any particular circumstances surrounding it, as design nuances can vary. Regular maintenance of the timing chain is essential to prevent such failures.

Just so everyone knows you do not have to pull the oil pan. There’s 9 bolts that connect the front of the oil pan to the timing case just remove those and ur good

So is it possible to take off bottom plate without oil pan
@xans777 Жыл бұрын
Yup just did it on mine without dropping the oil pan or removing the engine. Don't forget the 2 torx bolts inside right in front of the guides Just to add on. I did have to remove the oil pan to get it back on. In my case since the head gasket decompressed it was impossible to get it back on cause of the tight fit. It's back on now thankfully

How did you get it back on? The head gakest keeps folding inward as I try to put it in. Should I loosen the oil pan slightly to allow enough room?

Your say the word "turbo". I pressume this is evo engine and is year 2010 or newer. You put in short entension wiring adaptor "pig tails" for the wiring going out from cam phaser magnets?. In many older U tube videos they shows oil leaks from cam phaser magnets that travel to ECU box via its wiring. 🤔🤔🤔 You change engine oil every 5,000 miles?. You also change out the PCV valve and its hoses?. Any small hole on the vacuum hose. How many miles or km by this engine before this changing of this timing chain set?. Regards.

How much does a job like this cost
@straymusic2 жыл бұрын
I think this was a couple thousand bucks honestly. To remove the entire front timing cover the oil pan has to come off too. It was billed out at about 16 hours labor, plus parts (which is pretty expensive). This was probably $2000 at least
