When you add the new tensioner back and you said you have to spin the crank shaft for it to engage. Aren’t you worried that it will skip teeth on the upper sprockets ⚙️ ⚙️ and throw it out of time before the tensioner engages?

There is one U tuber whom taken effort to install pigtails wire for cam adjustors, camshaft sensor & crankshaft sensor so that no oil gets into the ECU of his year 2016 E-300. Could oil getting into ECU will cause small & repeating flustering of camshaft adjusters and worsen wear rate of timing chain & the sprockets?
@operationoverhaul Жыл бұрын
I have not seen that one yet. I may have to look it up. It makes sense that it could do that because if oil got into the ecu, it could cause the adjusting on and off more than it needed. @@user-bw5hk5nb3k if not mistaken there is requirement to press down the new tensioner, insert & tighten & install in place and then release the tensioner for it to press upon the guide and then onto the new chain. Also about camshaft adjuster position must not be in locked-in position until oil is put in and for it self lock & unlock by engine oil pressure during the starting of the engine. Yes, no?. 🤔🤔🤔. Please check on both of these before doing such a big job. I intended to install a fluid filled 50mm diameter PG, having 1/4" NPT threads, by tapping onto top of hex shape part of the oil filter casing. I will use this PG to verify oil pressure at hot idling rpm vs 2000rpm hot at neutral. Will do this during next new oil & new filter change and verify oil pressure at every 1000miles until next oil & filter change out. Upgrading to a pressure sending unit with a pressure gauge on the dash will depend on this outcome. But need to address the limited available head space, from the top of the oil filter until the hood liner, is only about 2.5 inches. Not sure it is a singular cause or sum of all small causes leading to premature wear on timing chain & sprocket. Fuel dilution into engine oil, not having a correct dipstick to verify & top up oil level after every 1000 miles, fake oil and/or fake oil filter, correct oil is changed but oil filter not changed, debris like RTV silicon in pickup tube, faulty PCV valve thus some of the supercharged or turbocharged is air blowing into engine crankcase, etc etc etc. Food for though. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 Any idea on what would be happening at 3000rpm, with the car's normal oil pressure after the oil filter at 75psi, but it actually having only 30psi. Pls keep sharing!. Regards.

The chain was actually slapping and the phasers/gears were rattling while running. It did not jump timing but was getting close to it as the tensioner was loosing tension after I inspected it. You could really hear it upon start up but it would get a little more quiet once it was warm but still would make noise and rattle but not as loud on the start up.
@whlawson5812 Жыл бұрын
@@operationoverhaul . So the tensioner, premature failing, is the culprit for all these damages?. Any clearly visible wear on the sprockets & the chain?. Would you be splitting open the old paper oil filter, from now onwards, after every oil change to check for metal debris?. If PCV valve in this car is not easily reachable would you relocate the PCV valve as near as possible to the air intake manifold. In place of the location of the old PCV put in a barb connector with smart clips. Then you could inspect the relocated PCV valve annually. Dipping for oil level at about 2 to 3 minutes after starting & keeping the engine running, in my case, I could see engine oil level drop of 4/5 inch. This is after changing to a new PCV but miss the opportunity to relocate it to higher up. 🤔🤔🤔 Would you modify the top of oil filter casing to install a oil pressure gauge or oil pressure sender unit. Or is there a better place in the engine block. Does this engine have a pressure switch for low oil pressure?. Regards
@operationoverhaul Жыл бұрын
@whlawson the chain and sprockets had some wear on them from the slack the tensioner caused but not an enormous amount. As far as the pcv I have seen people do that and they said that they are glad that they did it but I have never done it personally. I tend to check most of my filters for debris anyway, so that is a good practice. When it comes to the oil pressure, I believe it does have a low pressure switch on it.
