Mercedes 460 ORC spings and Koni Raid shocks

Our family G of 1983 (w460) was overdue for new shocks, and the springs were 15-20 years old. I replaced them with the ORC Eibach Blue springs with 40mm lift. Koni Raid shocks were used. The Raids are reportedly the proper Koni if you have a lifted G versus other Konis. I did not need to replace the original break lines with this lift as it is only small. Im no journalist, but the ride seems comfortable, its a 460, not an S class! I now need to get onto all the bushings which I will get done, that should make a big ride difference! ORC made the sale of the springs to Australia very easy. Local sellers had the Konis in (Wilkinsons suspension Perth WA)

How did you like the setup after all this time? Thinking of doing the same but might go the body lift option instead. Seems less issues down the line?

Hi, Admittedly I dont drive the 460 much anymore as Ive been focusing on another MB project and the G is parked in! I found the ride was much nicer around town to start with. I dont get too much time for any heavy offroading any more. Im glad I did it as the old shocks would have been 35 years old! I can recommend but as an Australian, it wasn't cheap to get the stuff here!

@@w116036 I hear you. I am in Perth also and it costs alot to get it...but I guess it's a great investment even for improved city driving. I'm looking at dropping a M104 3.2 to replace the worn out M102 so an upgrade of the suspension will also be good. Just need to figure out priorities haha 😂

How did you replace the front springs?

I took it to the suspension shop. I just bought the bits. I reckon the G springs would he loaded like an Abomb waiting to go off, so leave it to the trained people i reckon! .

Did you need to fit an adjustable pan hard rod / track bar to recenter the diffs?

No but my rear driveshaft needed rebalancing 10000km after this. but this could have just been normal wear and tear!

I have done the same upgrades on my 1986 280 GEL. Extremely happy with the set up. What settings did you adjust the raid shocks ? Soft or Medium ?

In in WA mate Not.on insta as prematurely old and keep it simple. I had a separate FB oage on my MBs but they shut it down as it was a second account!

@@IneosGrenadierWorld its not bad URA, but it was done about 20 years ago after an off road 'incident' in the same original colour. After the beige, the red was the most popular colour of original 460s brought into the country. There used to be many red ones!
