You have an insane amount of knowledge about these cars!

@@AtypicalDriver thanks, I’d written an article years ago on the M5T and had one in the works for 500e vs M5, but I’m also really interested in these two so it’s easy to learn about them.

You have 2/3 of my perfect 1993 German sedan trinity. A minty 1993 Audi S4 is all that is missing. Absolutely love all three of those classic German sedans. They knew what they were doing back then. Built to last vs the plastic fantastic modern offerings.

that gen of audi S4 is one i have not had the opportunity to try out. Hopefully someday.

They are both amazing. I always had to live on a budget. I had the cheaper versions, sort of your cars. I had '94 BMW 530i, and most people didn't know it was BMW's smallest V8. After my neighbor crashed and totaled it, I got a '95 Mercedes-Benz E420. Even though it was around 275hp, it was still enough power for me.... all the way up to it's 130mph top speed, unfortunately it was totaled also! I now deal with my 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Gold Automatic. I think you have an Alfa hiding in the background! You're definitely knowledgeable about cars, I've seen the Hagerty videos. Great video!

Really enjoyed this comparo, I especially liked that it wasn't just a rehash of the same 500E/Porsche story that anyone who is interested in these cars has heard 1,000 times. You're obviously a very discerning enthusiast, having two of the great 90s German sports sedans, both in 'brochure colors', and the M5 being a Euro model no less. I just picked up a Euro 280E sedan from the prior generation of Mercedes' mid-size sedan (the legendary W123, of course) and have been enjoying it very much. Looking forward to the driving portion!

thanks for the comment! My son and I had a couple of 123 280's, a sedan and wagon, the sedan was pretty quick.

Hi Mike. Great information and compassion. I have a 500E and love the car. It’s the Star in my modest collection. For me, it’s the high point in Mercedes design and quality. It’s super smooth and gives surprisingly swift performance. Other cars come and go, but the 500E is a keeper, as it’s irreplaceable

Great video! I'm in the UK and had a '93 3.8 M5 in Avus Blue with the Nurburgring pack for 5 years, fantastic car and one I still miss to this day. Unfortunately it's biodegradable biodegraded and at the time this was not a commonly known fault on these so after spending a lot of money on it I had to sell it for spares or repair. I haven't tried a 500E, LHD only put me off but I currently have a W124 300E-24 with it's screaming 7000 rpm redlined straight six which is also a fantastic car. Not as sporty as the BMW's but much better made. I look forward to seeing some videos of your two cars in action.

Great content; good video. Currently have one of those Individual cars you spoke of. Macaoblau Metallic 250/5 with a Champagne extended leather sun shade car. 3.6 Swiss market car. Car is in its original state needing restoration with 190Kms. Looking forward to the day its enjoyable to drive; right now its a hot mess only being driven a tank of gas worth a year....a garage queen. SLS balls are toast with low mileage take off low mileage rear SLS struts. Looking for inspiration and stumbled across your vid. Cheers.

Loving the content - and for this tiny of a channel (it's early December 2024 - and there's 186 - yes 186 - subscribers) the quality is pretty unbelieveable. There are id... sorry, people who will take the self levelling suspension out - now I know just one more reason to convince these idio... sorry, people - just to continue maintaining their suspensions, buy OE or quality parts (which aren't that expensive) - and all will be good. Have two cars with partial or full air suspension (F11 BMW 530xD and C6/4F Audi A6 Allroad) - and I cannot say both of them work great (this refers more to the audi) - but I'd never even dream of taking them out. Bring more stories like these - where the cars come from, what are their development/model change nuances - and I for one will keep watching with interest. You've got the 187th - from the small country of Latvia. Keep up the work!

Nice! I had the pleasure of a ‘94 E500 Limited a few years ago. They are very satisfying to own and drive. Perhaps you will be able to add footage from Taxi! and Ronin into your next “drive” videos. Please try to find suitable roads to show how much better the 500E feels round the bends compared to the standard W124 chassis cars.

Great comparo! Why you didnt lend the sedan for the Hagerty comparo? It would be a closer match for the 500E..
@MikeOttati3 күн бұрын
Thanks! The Hagerty video was supposed to be wagons. The Mercedes wagon was just a 320, so it was not in the same league so they brought that 500e along (which wasn’t totally stock, so not a fair comparison) I’ve offered my M5, and stock 500e for a rematch but nothing on the books yet. I’m hoping to run a comparison in the future myself
