You know a 2018 AMG Gtr went round a track faster than a 2017 nismo, it would have the same results if they did a test on straight line speeds. When they compared the acceleration on both cars the AMG after a few seconds accelerated faster.

The MY2017 version GT-R is good enough for a couple more years, but they should have given it a minimum of 600hp. We know this engine and drive train can handle more power reliably. Maybe Nissan figured it was fast enough for most owners, but many would be tuning it at their own cost anyway so why bother upping the power at their cost... If you compare the cost of the Nissan GT-R to the AMG GT R, adding 100hp+ still brings it in well below the cost of the Merc so it's excellent bag for buck.

I'm an AMG fanboy just to put it out there, tbh I really thought the Nissan was going to smoke the AMG GTR, but then again the AMG GTR has less weight, versus the Nissan GTR, the AMG GTR is RWD, while the Nissan GT-R has AWD correct me if I'm wrong, and of course the AMG GTR is far more expensive (150+k), but that's because it's a Mercedes AMG, two seater, coupe, that has decent power/torque, very sharp and angular looks(front facia), traction control systems etc., anyways Nissan Nizmo GTR is a very respectable machine, from the Japanese 😎🇯🇵

Leeiska , in a rolling drag race the car with the most power/torque always win. The real deal with the Nissan GTR is the launch and the ability to put the power down from zero. If you are rolling start the Nissan GTR, you are not doing right. You lose 60% of your advantage...

i thought this was something not worth mentioning because any man or woman with 2 or more working neurons will know the answer. Power to weight ratio is the biggest factor. Nissan GTR is a heavy ol' girl but not that heavy compared to Mercedes GTR. Veyron vs Koenigsegg- we are talking about ~500kg difference there (almost an Ariel atom weight difference). Great stuff! That Merc GT R is gorgeous. Just to bust the myth, Carbon Ceramic brakes do not help you stop better in a one off brake test. They are useful for repeated braking where fade can be an issue (trackday for eg.). It's pretty clear that Nissan engine can take another 100hp+ with no mechanical changes and still be perfectly reliable. Nissan failed miserably giving it just 570HP. The standard car should have been given 600hp and the Nismo 650hp or even 700hp.

It should be, it's AWD and has the 610hp version of this motor. The E63S has been recorded to 60mph in 3.2s, which is crazy fast for a 4 door saloon! Matt timed the new M5 at 3.1s to 60 so I'd call it even taking into account variables. I simply don;t believe the claim this new Nissan GT-R can hit 60mph under 3 seconds. One lost repeatedly to a stock Audi RS6 performance and that car has been timed to 60mph in 3.2s, which is faster than the official figure.

stubones they do is some respects. Usually car manufactures offer carbon ceramic brakes with larger rotors and calipers than the steel breaks so you get large diameter discs and calipers. But yeah like for like if everything is the same size there's very minimal differnce. It's manly break fade and durability.

Dude that was race was so close that I would've liked to see that again. So many factors can change after the initial race. Tire temp, car temp, oil burn, but the driver could also adjust drive modes if applicable. That race had me feeling like I was one of the drivers. Phenomenal video!!!!!!!

Chris Ethans Really!? No offense, but have you ever been on a track? Any track let alone something challenging like Laguna Seca or the Nurburgring? Well, I have, and let me tell you, Tires alone can make as much is two seconds per minute difference. Also, there is another factor to consider: 98% of all drivers are going to be significantly faster in the Nismo than the AMG GTR. The Nissan does everything for you. In the AMG, you really got to be good. I’ve been on various cracks a few times but I would not consider myself a very good driver. I can tell you that I was only a second slower in a stock, non Nismo GTR than in a Huracan Performante. Why? Because the Lamborghini has a very tactile balance and will slide and dance if you are not an amazing driver. The GTR just sticks. That’s just my personal opinion.

It is drag force NOT downforce that slows a car down on a straight line, most people seem to struggle to make a distinction between these two concepts. By your logic, backmarkers in Formula 1 would always be faster on the straights than the top teams' cars since their prototypes almost always generate less downforce, regardless of the setup they happen to run, and F1 cars in general would be pretty sluggish at higher speeds due to the immense downforce they make, regardless of their power/weight ratio(altho those machines do indeed have considerably higher drag coefficient compared to road cars due to the very aggressive overbody aero concept they have with the current rules, an LMP1 prototype however doesn't generate that much more drag compared to a sporty road vehicle, yet it generates multiple times the downforce).

armoredp More power lighter chassis and modern DCT would make a huge difference it would not be hard to improve on this GTR with how far technology has come in the past 10 years shit just look at how far AMS Performance has improved on it with 3000hp+ full drag versions lol. Nissan GTR was literally the first car to come out with a DCT they thought of it before everyone and then everyone else just copied them and made better ones it's always hard being the first because you literally have to come up with it out of thin air if they could do that then not knowing anything then I can't even imagine what they could do now knowing everything. The same transmission that is in the 2007 GTR in Japan is still in the new one 10 years later with just a few tweaks same as motor ECT... It's literally the same car same weight all they did each year was add a little more boost and a little face lift it's still the same chassis it would not be hard to improve on that at all.

In a tesla you can drive faster down the line . For 2 -3 times. After that the batteries are overheatet and the car limits the power . With both gtr you can race all day . And on the track you can trash the tesla after 2 rounds . On nurburgrings nordschleife the car trottles his power extrem quickli down to bottom level

Wrong. Amg gt r has better looks arguably, more precense, is more fun to drive, better handling, and destroys r8 around the track. And also the Amg has rws and 9 stage traction control so you can dfrift it too. Its a turbo v8 which means its no where near as much as a mosquito gas guzzler which the r8 is.... So the Amg gt is a much better daily drivers car. Its not overpriced at all. It shames cars more than 2 times its price and beats them! So for less you get less. And for more you get more.

The amg gtr has a lot more torque than the r8, about 140 Nm more, which is a lot, but only 20 hp less and weighs roughly the same as the r8. In a rolling race on the highway u can be sure the amg beats the r8. As for the track it's pretty close but the amg would be slightly quicker for many reasons. The r8 is an amazing car, but the Awd ruins everything as all real drivers say. The amg will always be better to drive and will demand more skill, which means it's more fun, it feels better. But in the end not everyone has driving skills so, to each their own...

It still is, Nissan made a beast that lasted almost 13 years. It’s still competition to a lot of sports super cars which you wouldn’t expect. AMG has had the SLS AMG, the SLS AMG Black Series, the AMG GT, the AMG GTS, the AMG GTR and just recently the AMG GTR Black Series. Like Nissan only have had the regular GTR, the facelift model 2017 and some Nismo’s. That’s it. But I reckon that if it had the GT1 engine in it, it would rip alot of super cars.
