Please note that if you are going to carry out this job, make a note of the linkage to which the gear stick connects to, and its a piece that looks like a U and needs to go back in the correct place.

Great video. TCU on mine 2007 B200 Turbo was rebuilt by transmissions shop. I paid 2000 CAD. About 20000Km later so far so good.

Just had this problem last week...after cooling down the engine...managed to drive safely for 200km back home without any problem...otw to the workshop today...the problem appeared again...just lucky that the workshop is only 15km away....don't know what would the bill be but thanks for the video...at least I have an insight of the problem

Hello, the advice to let the gear shifter in each position for some minutes does not apply for cvt. It's only in conventional disc packs automatic transmissions and the reason for that is that we need to make sure that packs are flooded in oil. Congrats for your vid. It helps a lot.😊

At minute 18 I show the place where to put the oil, which is a dipstick hole for measuring transmission fluid level. It’s covered with a little plastic cap that has a pin that needs to be broken to remove the cover. The transmission fluid is not the red type for this model, it’s clear looks like normal engine oil.

The throttle body can cause hunting issues as well as some sort of air leak. Is the engine management light on ? May be you need to check for fault codes. Am afraid I am not sure where the fuel filter might be.

🤔 it’s possible but it would have to be bent a bit during removal to crack it. However I seem to remember seeing crack antennas in other models as a result of heat. So depends if your car is fairly low mileage shouldn’t have this issue.

Hello, thank you so much for this video. I'm having the same issue with a 2006 w245. I was able to find a company that will repair the TCU for about 300€. I have a very important concern, can the car be moved once the tcu is removed? My mechanic says he can't let my car in one of his workshop elevators for a week and he's not willing to do it with the car on 'stands'. Your answer will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, well as far as I remember if you place the shift gear knob to neutral before removing the tcu then you should be able to move the car. Just remember that when refitting the tcu the little connecting rod has to be in the same neutral position.

Hi there to be honest I never dismantled the valve bode, however usually if they are the same color then they are the same rating, but you could double check with giving Mercedes parts a call.

Hi there, as describe in the video I sent the part to a company called AC Tronics in the UK, they repaired the part and sent it back to me once repaired, provided the part is reparable. I believe if you were buying the part only, then that would be very expensive and possible available from Mercedes only, then of course it needs to be fitted. I did once had a company get the job carried out on a c class and i think the cost was around £2500.

Well to be honest, I sold the car as I buy and sell cars, and the lady who bought it called me a few days later and said a message come up on the display and the gearbox seems to be in limp mode, so I had a look and gave all her money back and took the car back in case it was something more serious than the tcu. So this happen from one day to the next with no precious symptoms, but to be fair i have by experience a few cars that suffer with issues with the tcu including audi or even some c class models..

Hi well first plug and obd 2 computer and see if there are any fault codes, but at the moment it sound like the transmission has a mechanical fault rather than a electrical fault.. but you need to see if there are fault codes.

To be honest it sounds like the gearbox may need replacement, you can try oil change as a last option but gear slipping can be a sign of bigger problems.

As far as am aware there is a B class that does need the engine to be dropped to change the clutch. Due to the way it’s been fitted. I don’t thing it needs to completely come out but room is needed.

Hi there, yes if the fault code or codes are similar or the same then this unit can be sent for repair. If there are no hard shift bangs with the gearbox then its very likely to be the tcu thats causing the issue. Mine is ok and running well now, I've been testing it all week with slow drives and no issues have come back.

@@sarahmoketla122 there is a part in the tcu that slides sideways when you fit the tcu back the slider that looks like a U needs to go into the linkage that comes from the gearbox stick in the car, if the slider U is not in the correct place the car ECU might detect the car is in drive or reverse and won’t let the car start. How ever if you made sure the U part of the slider was fitted in the correct place and your car is correctly in park, then either something wrong with the battery or starter or even the tcu is not recognising the car is in park, you need to check for fault codes.

Hi mate, compliments u are very professional, I have a problem when I change gears (R.N,D,P) the car gives a shock, not very strong but I feel it. even when changing gear from second to third it gives a slight shock. Do u have any idea about this problem?

It sound like you may have a problem with the valve body, which is in charge of regulation the oil pressure when the transmission changes gear. have you seen if there are any fault codes or not yet.. but it does sound like a valve body solenoids issue.

@@geostory the car in the video doesn’t have a misfire. So I think your problem is different. If you have a misfire that’s what you need to check. If it’s petrol car, check spark plugs. May be change them if they haven’t been changed in a long time.

Hello please I have the same problem mercedes b class w245 automatic transmission. The same fault. When we go to mercedes they told us first you should repair the ecu of gearbox but if they open the gearbox and they found dust from metals then need to replace all the gearbox. It's right?? So I went the car to friend expert mercedes garage and he told me that he found dusk mettalts inside the oil so I should need to replace the gearbox. the car have 215000 km it's to much that I need to replace the gearbox..????

To be honest it sounds like the problem you have is mechanical if there are metal bits inside the transmission oil pan. In which case you do need to replace the whole transmission am afraid. To be fair the car has a lot of km.

Well to be honest the only way to fix an electronic issue would as in the video, if you can do it, you’ll save money, but if not you’ll have to pay some extra, but having the tcu repaired is way cheaper than buying a new one. You should check the fault codes and see what they are..

Great video thanks! Can I use any cheap OBDII reader from Amazon to see the TCU fault codes on a W245? And do you know if the car stores the faults when the dash warning is not showing and the car is not in limp mode? Someone suggested the car erases it's memory every time you switch it on. (It only has this problem intermittently at present, and so far it always comes out of limp mode after stopping/restarting.)

No it must be able to rear gearbox codes. Most cheap OBD2s only read engine codes. So u need to look for one that can do the gearbox too.

A new tcu, you can buy from audi, otherwise a second hand tcu will need to be programed to the car by a specialist..

Well if the fault is the same you can drive but it will be very slow. Try to get it fixed when you can. I don’t think it will cause further damage as is an electrical problem rather than mechanical.

If the link in the transmission part is in the wrong position such as in D or R the car won’t start, however if the hook that goes into the link it’s in the P position it will show as being in P, but still won’t start as the car is in gear.

Hello please i have questions. I have same problem, but only when is warm motor. If i start cold motor and drive, gearbox gearing properly. After motor get cca 70 C it jump to fail mode. Hello i only get Error code P0793 when the engine is cold. if i drive from cold start the code will come on. if i let engine warm up it drives lovely all day no problems. maybe just needs an oil change ? 2006 95,000k

Hmmm 🧐 to be honest error codes that come and go like that usually point to a faulty control unit, mechanical faults are more likely related to oil. But that’s just my opinion, you could try an oil change, I have been wrong before 🤣 so one never knows.

To be honest it should be hard because it’s heavy it just comes out. However y had the same issue with another car and it turns out I miss one bolt. So have a good check again and see if all the bolts are out.

Hi , first question, who fixed your transmission control unit ? Can you trust they fixed it properly ? If not then the communication with the OBD computer may not work. Second if you put the transmission in neutral and it goes forwards, that means the linkage in the valve body is in the wrong place. The linkage in the valve body looks like a U and has to fit into the linkage coming from the transmission, do you know what am talking about ?

I hooked the U to the right place in the gearbox. maybe the electronics are not working again because everything worked for a few seconds and then he mixed the gears. there is also a lot of metal dust in the oil

Do you mean TCU, not sure what a CTU is ?. The fault codes I had were fault codes may be 0714 0722 0657 c121 0793 0896. The TCU is the brains of the transmission and the CVT is the mechanical part of the transmission.

@@uchecool1003 well it sounds to me like you have a TCU problem. So technically you would have to do what’s been done in the video. Remove it and send it for repair. Or go to another garage and tell them to check it, and do the removal and sending off the tcu for you. But it doesn’t sound like the problem is in the mechanical part. Can’t guarantee anything but usually mechanical issues have different symptoms.
