Mercedes-Benz 240D cold start

Starting my 1982 240D with new engine.
Old engine died last summer.
Fuel was not arctic diesel, and glow plug relay was trash, hence the bad starting. Temperature was - 26C

Kłania się kompresja i działanie wszystkich świec żarowych . Od tego bym zaczął .. Dobry motor odpala od pierwszego strzała , a tutaj ewidentnie coś nie styka.. No chyba że mamy -35st❄️😮😂

I had a diesel no more for me. If I didn’t plug it in on cold nights it wouldn’t start the next morning. I do love the sound of a Diesel engine when running. Something about that click click click.

You can cut the fuel with a quart or so with kerosene even gasoline it says in your book.

Yes, i know. This car is not driven in the winter. Just wanted to know that is it possible to start it when it is that cold.

@@nickl8192 Actually, I believe my manual says use 20% kerosene for temps below a certain level (I think it's -10C). So for a fuel tank of about 15 US gallons, that would be 12 gallons diesel, 3 gallons kerosene. Nowadays they have fuel additives that can be used instead.

The manual actually says you can run on 50:50 diesel kerosene\paraffin.

It sounds like you have a serious compression problem. The fuel is not the problem as much as the number of cycles that it takes to get the motor running.

Sounds, but no. Someone said that glow plugs are bad. No they are not. Reason was faulty glow plug relay! It never switched glow plugs on... Fuel also had some role in this. Summer fuel has freezing point on -5C.
